Game 1

The first game of the wild card series betwen the Red Sox and the Judges will take place at 6:00 this evening. That means I will probably be able to watch the entire game!

Crochet has the start for the Red Sox and Fried has the start for the Judges.

According to everyone and their brother who claims to know everything there is to know about baseball, the Judges will win in three.

According to me, a guy who loved playing baseball in his youth and enjoys watching it in his old age, the Red Sox will win in two.

Guess we'll see who is right over the next few days...

The Very Stable Genius has become a drug dealer.

Don't get me wrong, this could turn out to be a great idea and if it works out the way they are saying it will work, it could go a long way in lowering the cost of some vital medications that people need to live.

My concern is his businesses aren't known for providing a quality product at a reduced price. He's known for charging a lot for a shitty product. There's a reason Trump Steaks died after only a few months in business.

I guess only time will tell.

Please don't do this to me when I die
I'm not that colorful...

No baseball today

There is, however, pre-season hockey.

The Bruins will play the Flyers this evening so I'll have that to watch for my evening entertainment.

Remember yesterday when I said, "I wonder if Kash Patel will "find" any anti-ICE/Trump/GOP propaganda written on the bullets..."

Turns out I'm not the only one that finds it interesting that Patel is suddenly finding all kinds of anti-[insert Trump agenda item here] things written on bullets:

There is an ancient Chinese curse that says, "May you live in interesting times".

Ladies and gentlemen, we are most certainly living in interesting times...

I missed the first half

I apologize in advance for the heat wave we are about to experience.

Today was the day I took out my air conditioners. That means that we can expect several days of heat to suddenly come at us out of nowhere.

I also got my lawn mowed which was a lengthy task because I over-seeded it two weeks ago and I haven't mowed since then. This means that not only has the seed begun to germinate, the grass itself was really long so I had to stop and empty the grass catcher bags numerous times.

With all of that going on, I missed the first half of the Patriots game which means I missed the Patriots scoring 28 points.

I did watch the second half which means I was able to see the Patriots scoring 14 points.

When the game ended, the Patriots had beaten the Panthers 42-13.

The Patriots are a good team. The Panthers, however, kinda aren't a good team...

The Patriots are now 2-2 on the season and I remain ever hopeful about this team.

As for the Red Sox, they beat the Tigers 4-3 this afternoon.

For their final regular season game of 2025, the Red Sox had a call-up named José De León as their starter. Gotta say, he did a prety good job.

So now that today is over with, the American League has settled and I can say the Red Sox will be going to New York to play a 3-game wild card series against the Judges starting Tuesday evening. The winner of that series will play the Blue Jays.

It's gonna be bad if these two decide to get together...

A very nice win

The Red Sox came back and walked-off the Tigers last night, putting themselves into the playoffs!

They were down 3-0 through 4 innings when they suddenly remembered how their bats work and they fought their way to a 3-3 tie in the 8th. Chapman came in in the 9th and held the Tigers off to give the Red Sox hitters a chance in the bottom of the inning and they did not disappoint.

With 1 out, Gonzalez came up and hit a nice single. Then Rafaela came up and hit the second pitch he saw for a triple, driving in Gonzalez for the 4-3 win.

It was a great game to watch.

As for today, they lost 2-1 and Tigers secured themselves a playoff spot.

They have one game left against the Tigers and it would be nice to see them win that game. Even if they lose, it doesn't really matter because on September 30th, the Red Sox will start the wild card series.

I'm not sure yet who their opponent will be because the AL standings right now are a mess. No one has a clear handle on the ALEast and there are more than a few teams vying for a wild card slot. Once the divisions shake out, we'll know who the final wild card team is.

Gotta be honest with you, this is the first season in a long time that has gone this far without a clear set of division / wild card winners. It's kind of a mess right now...

The Very Stable Genius has just ordered the military into Portland Oregone and authorized them to use "full force if necessary" because...

...I guess he doesn't like Portland or something.

If this dingbat keeps going the way he's going, there is going to be a civil war. I just hope it's short and none of my family or friends gets wrapped up in it.

Dammit, they lost

The Red Sox failed to sweep the Blue Jays, getting beat 6-1.

I can't blame Bello because once again, the Red Sox went 6 innings without getting a single hit.

No major league team can win a game where they go six innings without so much as a hit.

Tonight they start their final 3-game series of the season when they welcome the Tigers into Fenway park.

They need to win...
I need them to win...

Trump and his minions have finally figured out how to charge James Comey with a crime. This has a lot of people nervous because some of those people spent a lot of time charging Trump with all kinds of crimes and they are worried that now he will find something bad they did and charge them with a crime.

Want to know what I know?

I know someone who worked with James Comey at the FBI. This person didn't work for Comey, they worked with Comey when he was an agent and then a supervisor. This person is a very intelligent and thoughtful person. They are also very kind and generous. They are neither liberal nor conservative. As a matter of fact, I don't think we ever talked about politics.

Back when Trump was first president and he fired Comey, I asked this person what they thought of Comey.

They said, "Comey is a brown-nosing, ass-kissing, back-stabbing piece of shit and he got the job as director because he sucked up to the right people. I never liked him and none of us ever trusted him."

Based on that one statement, I have no sympathy for Comey and I suspect he is guilty of something.

Another nice win

Last night, the Red Sox beat the Blue Jays 7-1 and are now only one win away from securing playoff spot

Crochet faced 26 batters over 8 innings, giving up 3 hits, 0 walks, 0 runs and striking out 6.

The Judges also beat the White Sox which puts them into a tie with the Blue Jays for the division and securing a playoff spot.

Here are the wild card standings:

They just need to win one more game...

Tonight's game starts at 7:07 and Bello has the start.

A nice win

The Red Sox managed to hang on and win last night, beating the Blue Jays 4-1.

Giolito had a good but not great outing, facing 23 batters 4⅔ innings, giving up 1 hit, 1 run, 4 walks and striking out 3. Not his usual high-quality start but it put them in a good spot for the bullpen to take over and finish things off.

It was the hitter who made the difference. There were still a lot of outs made on warning track but there were a lot of singles and doubles that resulted in runners being moved along the bases and on to home plate.

Tonight's game starts at 7:07 and Crochet has the start.

For the record, I only made it through 6 innings last night. I'm hoping to make it through at least 7 tonight.

This head cold thing is killing me...

After the huuuuuge announcement from Brainworm Bobby and The Very Stable Genius yesterday, this made me laugh:

Speaking of autism...

Look, I get it. For the last 50 years, autism rates have been increasing and it seems like the medical community is doing nothing about it. The only time you hear anyone in the medical establishment say anything at all about autism is when they come out and say, "Vaccines don't cause autism! That rumor is from a debunked report issued by some guy a long time ago!"

Okay, so what does cause autism? What can you tell me about the causes of autism and why it is on the rise? And please don't say, "It's not on the rise. Diagnostics have gotten better so we're discovering more of it!" That's nice but what is causing it?

Maybe if the gigantic medical bureaucracy in this country had come out and said, "You know what? We should probably look into what is causing it." maybe we wouldn't have nutcases like Kennedy running around poking us with sharp sticks. Maybe we would know what actually causes autism and we could take appropriate measures instead of the knee-jerk reactions we are seeing from our esteemed leader, The Very Stable Genius...

Big E kinda day

We went over to the Eastern States Exposition this morning and wandered around for a few hours.

This was a good day to go because it was a Tuesday, it was partly cloudy and the temps were about 80°. That means it wasn't terribly crowded, there was a decent mix of sun and shade and it wasn't ball-melting hot.

The best sideshow at the Big E is the people.

I am overweight, I know this. I gave up smoking cigarettes about 15 years ago and I replaced my nicotine addiction with food. As a result, I gained weight. Because I'm fat, I dress appropriately. For instance, I avoid spandex, belly shirts, or gym shorts. Instead I wear t-shirts, polo shirts, long pants or golf shorts. You know, basic old guy stuff.

No one wants to see a old fat guy in spandex or a belly shirt.

I saw people today with belly shirts, spandex, tube tops, gym shorts, etc... that shouldn't be allowed in public wearing those things.

When you look up to see what looks like a 3½ foot wide sack of popcorn jammed into a pair of yoga pants waddling away from you, you can't help but look away and shake your head.

I spent a lot of my time walking around just shaking my head.

I have been waiting for this to make it's way to the big leagues.

I personally think that the majority of calls are correct but there are certain umpires who are wrong more often then not. The perfect example of that was Angel Hernandez. He was unable to call a game without controversy because he was wrong most of the time.

I don't know if this will change the outcome of any games but at least it provides a way for the players to get a shot at correcting a bad call.

Speaking of baseball, the Red Sox are in Toronto to start a 3-game series against the Blue Jays.

While I know they are capable of beating the Blue Jays, I do not have high hopes for a series win.

To be honest, I'm hoping they dont get swept.

First pitch was at 7:07 and Giolito had the start. As I post this, it is 1-0 Red Sox in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

Here are some links:

Monday, September 22, 2025

They lost, dammit.

The Rays took the 3rd game in the series last night, beating the Red Sox 7-3.

Fortunately, the Guardians and the Astros also lost. That means the Red Sox remain 1 game over them in the wild card

They are off tonight while they travel to Toronto where tomorrow they will start a 3-game series against the division-leading Blue Jays.

The Red Sox have six games left in their season. They need to win at least 3 of those games and the Guardians/Astros need to lose at least 3 of their games.

Unfortunately, that does not look like it's going to be easy since the Red Sox are playing the Blue Jays and then the Tigers. Both of those teams lead their respective divisions and won't be easy to beat.

The Very Stable Genius has just thrown a company name Kenvue under the bus for no reason other than it makes him feel good to spread misinformation.

Kenvue is the name of the company that Johnson & Johnson spun off with all their health care products which includes Tylenol.

Brainworm Bobby spent the last several years telling everyone that vaccines cause autism but recently the worm turned and now he says that Tylenol is the real cause of autism.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - get your medical advice from your doctor, not the wackos in the federal government.

Win and loss

The Red Sox took game 2 in their 3-game series against the Rays, beating them 6-3.

The game was tied 3-3 in the 7th inning but the Red Sox managed to figure out that they can score runs if they hit the ball while runners are on base. In the 9th, they scored 3 more runs and Chapman came in to finish off the Rays.

Todays game has Early on on the mound. First pitch is at 7:35.

The Patriots managed to turn the ball over numerous times and they ended up getting beat by the Steelers 21-14.

I'm pretty sure the fumble on the 6 inch line was the one that made me yell "IDIOTS!" the loudest. They were about to take the lead and instead they decided to turn the ball over.

Idiots.

Losing to Rodgers the Weirdo kinda sucks...

The Bruins are back in preseason this afternoon and I watched a bit of their game against the Capitals.

When I turned it off, it was 4-1 Capitals and the Bruins did not look like a team. They looked like a bunch of guys playing hockey as individuals.

They play the Rangers on Tuesday but I won't be watching it because the Red Sox will be playing the Blue Jays.

Yes, my head cold is still raging away nicely.

Not busy

But I am sick.

I got one of those wonderful head cold thingees that make my sinuses feel like they are packed with 10 pounds of crap.

So the Red Sox won last night and are hanging on by a thread in the wild card.

They are back at again this evening with the new kid, Harrison, on the mound. First pitch is at 7:05.

Oh, and rumor has it Abreu might be available off the bench tonight.

Still busy

We spent the last few days up in Old Orchard Beach enjoying numerous helpings of fried clams and lobster rolls.

We had great weather and since we are past Labor Day, there weren't a lot of people clogging up the place.

This was the view from our hotel room at 6:30 in the morning:

Once we got home, I decided to mow my lawn and then put down a bunch of grass seed. I'm hoping overseeding will fill in some of the thin spots as well as keep the weeds to a minimum next year.

Even though I did not have an opportunity to watch the game, the damned Red Sox lost this afternoon and are now at the bottom of the wildcard pile.

Tomorrow they take on the Rays and if they lose that series, they can pretty much hang up their season.

This is a direct result of the last 20 years of the social justice crowd getting conservatives fired from their jobs for having opinions that offended them.

I believe it was called "cancel culture" or something like that but the bottom line in all of this is that liberals kept poking that hornets nest and now the hornets are out in force.

Get used to it people because it's going to get worse.

Once again, busy

But not busy enough to stop bitching about the Red Sox.

They lost last night and it is directly related to them going scoreless 8 out of 9 innings.

No MLB team can expect to remain in playoff contention if they are only scoring runs about 10% of the time.

I'm beginning to lose faith in their ability to remain in playoff contention. They really, really need to start hitting the ball with an eye towards driving in the guys on base instead of trying to hit home runs that result in a catch for an out on the warning track.

Still busy so this is all you get.

Maybe tomorrow.

Monday, September 15, 2025

Finally, a win

The Red Sox managed to avoid the sweep and beat the Judges 6-4 last night.

You would htink this would bring my much joy but I am a little concerned. You see, the 6 runs that the Red Sox got all came in the first inning. That means they went 8 scoreless innings.

No baseball team can expect to win games when they go scoreless 8 out of 9 innings.

Tonight they are off. Tomorrow the will start a 3-game series againt the Athletics.

Yet another loss

The Red Sox lost to the Judges last yesterday, getting beat 5-3 and dropping 6 games behind the Blue Jays.

The batters are not moving the runners along. It's very frustrating to watch them leave runners on third and second.

Tonights game starts at 7:10 and Crochet has the start. They need to win this game if they want to remain in second place in the wild card.

Oh, and to make matters wrose, freakin' ESPN is carrying tonights game.

I hate ESPN.

The Patriots, however, managed to hold on and beat the Dolphins 33-27 this afternoon.

I thought Maye did a pretty good job throwing the ball but I gotta wonder why the Patriots limit their use of run.

Next up is Aaron "The Psycho" Rodgers and the Steelers. That is also a 1:00 game next Sunday, the 21st.

More ground lost

The Red Sox lost to the Judges last night, getting beat 4-1. Add to that the fact the Blue Jays beat the Orioles and it means the Red Sox have lost more ground in the race to the playoffs.

Giolito had an "okay" outing, facing 23 batters over 5⅔ innings giving up 2 runs, walking 1 and striking out 6.

The problem is that the batters were not moving the runners along. Also, the Red Sox managed to make 3 errors in the field last night, one of which resulted in a run.

Today's starter is Bello and the first pitch was at 4:10 this afternoon.

As I post this, the score is 2-0 Judges in the top of the 1st inning.

Here are a few links:

Friday, September 12, 2025

They lost ground

The Red Sox were off last night but they lost ground to both the Judges and the Blue Jays because both those teams won last night.

Giolito has the start tonight and first pitch is at 7:10.

Unfortunately, the game will be shown on Apple TV and since I don't have Apple TV, I'm going to have to look around for a feed.

They caught the kid that murdered the Trump supporter.

Look, it's okay to have an opinion. It's okay to tell people your opinion. Anyone that doesn't want to listen to your opinion is free to not listen to it.

What is not okay is using a deadly weapon to silence someone's opinion.

None of that is good.

A win and a loss

The Red Sox beat the Athletics 6-0 last night, moving back into a tie with the Judges in the wild card.

This afternoon's game started at 3:30 and it was a bullpen game for the Red Sox. Unfortunately it didn't go their way and they lost 5-4.

I really really need the Judges to lose this evening.

One of Trump's big-mouthed supporters was shot and killed in Utah this afternoon.

Since I don't pay attention to "activists" of any flavor, I have no idea who he was but apparently Trump has ordered flags to half staff.

I'm wondering if the republicans will all send "thoughts and prayers" or will they start collecting the guns owned by liberal democrats...

Nice win last night

I did not get to watch any of last nights baseball game but I did look at the highlights this morning. The Red Sox beat the Athletics 7-0.

Crochet faced 24 batters over 7 innings, giving up only 3 hits, 0 walks and striking out 10.

They are back at it again at 10:10 tonight which means I will not get to see a kid named Connelly Early make his first major league start.

Hopefully he is good. The MLB Pipeline has him listed as the Red Sox number 6 prospect but not in the top 100 for all of the MLB. That means he is good but not top 100 good.

They did not get swept.

The Red Sox got their collective shit together yesterday and they avoided being swept by the Diamondbacks, beating them 7-4.

Tonight they are in West Sacramento California where they will start a 3-game series against the Homeless Athletics.

Seriously, the Athletics play baseball in a park smaller than the one the Worcester Red Sox play in.

Crochet has the start. First pitch is way past my bedtime at 10:05pm.

Golf was played today and it was an absolutely fantastic day for it.

Pat, Willie and I met up at the usual place at 10:00 and played nine holes of mediocre golf. But that doesn't matter. What matters is that we had a good time, the weather was perfect and we all laughed at our lousy jokes.

And that is the only reason to go play golf - to have a good time.

Somebody won and it wasn't the Red Sox or the Patriots

There were two winning Powerball tickets sold - one in Missouri and one in Texas.

Since I don't live in either Texas or Missouri, it's a good thing I didn't buy a ticket.

The Red Sox lost again last night, getting beat 5-1 by the Diamondbacks.

Giolito made it through 5 innings before Cora had to take him out. He faced 24 batters, giving up 7 hits, 4 runs and 3 walks while striking out only 2.

Today's game has Bello on the mound.

First pitch was at 4:10 and as I post this, the Diamondbacks are up 2-1 in the 5th inning.

The Patriots kicked off their season this afternoon when they welcomed the Raiders into Foxboro.

As I've mentioned in the recent past, I have high hopes for this team. Particularly with Josh Daniels and his visor back with the Patriots as the offensive coordinator.

It was a bit touchy in the first half but when half time rolled around it was 10-7 Patriots. I was feeling pretty good.

Then they came out for the second half and proceeded to fall apart.

When the game ended, the Raiders had won 20-13.

They lost

Turns out Eduardo Rodriguez still knows how to pitch and payton Tolle is still learning how to pitch. The Diamondbacks beat the Red Sox 10-5 last night.

Fortunately, the Judges also lost their game against the Blue Jays so they still lead the Red Sox by only half a game.

Tonights game is at 8:10 and Giolito has the start.

Hopefully this goes better than last night.

Busy day today, so this is all you get.

And no, I did not buy a Powerball ticket...

Old friends

When the first pitch is thrown in tonight's baseball game, it will be thrown by old friend Eduardo Rodriguez.

Rodriguez is one of those folks who did not fair well with covid. When he contracted covid in 2020, it led to myocarditis and he missed all of the season.

In 2021, he missed a fair chunk of the season with various maladies and at the end of the season, he decided to pass on the Red Sox qualifying offer and he elected free agency.

In 2022, he joined the Tigers where he pitched for a few weeks and then went on the DL for "personal reasons". In June, the Tiger placed him on the restricted list, stopped paying him and he disappeared. There were rumors that he was having family issues but since he did not stay in contact with the team, the Tigers didn't know what his status was.

The one thing I do know about him is he was a pretty damned good pitcher.

Tolle has the start for the Red Sox and I'm hoping he brings the heat. The kid has a fastball that is in the upper 90s, touching 100 occasionally.

The Red Sox need the win because the Judges won last night and are now 1/2 a game ahead of the Red Sox.

Also, the Judges are playing the Blue Jays tonight. That means if the Red Sox win, they pick up a game on either the Judges or the Blue jays, depending on who wins that game.

Like I said yesterday, the lump sum might be over a billion by Friday night.
I still think $2.00 is a lot of money to throw away because the odds of winning are 292,000,000 to 1.

I figure the odds of finding a winning lottery ticket on the street are about the same as buying a winning lottery ticket...

I watched some of the Eagles / Cowboys game last night because there was nothing else on.

The NFL has a new rule in place that basically says unsportsmanlike conduct now results on an immediate ejection from the game.

Jalen Carter didn't even play a single snap because, well, Jalen Carter is an idiot.

Getting close

I checked the lottery website this afternoon and the Powerball annuity is up to $1,700,000,000.00. The lump sum is at $770,300,000.00 (roughly $447,000,000 after federal and state taxes).

It's getting close to the point where I will think about maybe, possibly, buying a ticket. It's a pretty good bet that by the time the Saturday drawing rolls around, the lump sum will exceed $900,000,000.00.

Spending $2.00 to win $900,000,000.00 is just as dumb as spending $2.00 to win $100.00 but the potential return is substantialy higher...

The Red Sox looked awful last night, losing to the Guardians 8-1.

I can't help but notice those bullpen games never really go well...

Fortunately the Judges lost as well so they remain even with them. Unfortunately the Blue Jays won so they drop back to 3½ games behind the Blue Jays.

I'm really hoping the Judges lose tonight. If they win, the Judges take a half game lead over the Red Sox. If they lose, the Red Sox will take a half game lead over the Judges.

Tomorrow the Red Sox will start a 3-game series against the Diamondbacks. That game will start at 9:40 so I won't be watching more than an inning or two. Tolle is scheduled for his second MLB start.

Still no ticket

No, I did not buy a Powerball ticket.

Now I'm up $6.00!

The Red Sox beat the Guardians 11-7 last night and I was able to stay awake long enough to watch the entire game. Unfortunately, both the Blue Jays and the Judges won so the standings basically remain the same.

It was an odd game given that Crochet did not have a great outing. He gave up several runs and his control seemed a bit off.

I guess everyone has an off day.

Tonights game is a bullpen game with Bernardino getting the start. First pitch is at 6:45.

In other Red Sox news, with only 4 weeks left in the regular season, Roman Anthony is on the IL for 4-6 weeks.

This is not a good thing for them.

Here's the title

The facility I use to create this ooze of runny fecal matter requires that I give each entry a title. If I don't, it leaves the field blank and gives me a hard time.

I don't like being given a hard time so you get a title...

No I still didn't buy a ticket...

The way I look at it, I'm not out $1,300,000,000.00, I'm up $4.00.

Nice win

The Red Sox beat the Guardians 6-4 this afternoon, the Judges were on a day off and the Blue Jays lost to the Reds. That puts the Red Sox 2½ games behind the Blue Jays, in a tie with the Judges.

Crochet has the start tomorrow and first pitch is at 6:45.

Here is what I'm thinking about the next 4 weeks of baseball:
  • The Judges have some difficult series ahead of them, including the Astros, the Blue Jays, the Tigers and the Red Sox. They also have some easy series against the White Sox and the Orioles. If they faulter at all, they will probablhy not recover.
  • The Blue Jays have some tough series but not difficult. They seem to be struggling so hopefully they go into a slump.
  • The Red Sox have a reasonable schedule with series against the Athletics, the Judges and the Diamondbacks. If the hitters can get their act together, they should win several of those.
The bottom line is that the Red Sox have a chance of overtaking both the Judges and the Blue Jays. My hopes are they win the division even though the knuckleheads at Fangraphs have them at only a 10% chance of that. They do give them a 94% of making the playoffs, just not winning the division.

Personally, I think Fangraphs is wrong.

No, I did not buy a ticket.

I guess that means I won't be a bazillionaire.
