Winter is a bit early

Man, it was chilly this morning. The Small Dog ran out, pee'd and ran right back in.

Granted, it wasn't below zero or windy but it was around 25° which is cold compared to what we are used to.

My sister might have the right idea about living in North Carolina...

Just for the heck of it, I decided to check the polls to see what's going on with the election.
According to Gravis, Trump is doing a great job.
    According to FOX, Trump sucks.
According to Remington Research, Trump is going to kick Bidens ass.
According to Public Policy, Trump is so far behind Biden he should concede the race today.
Here's my poll:
According to me, all the pollsters should shut the hell up. None of you know what you are talking about. You are all an incredible waste of perfectly good oxygen.
That was a complete waste of my time and I won't be doing that again.

So far we've had three kids show up to our festive display to get some halloween candy.
We may have more show up but I have my doubts.

That just means there will be more candy for me.

UPDATE @ 7:40pm:

Holy crap! We've had about 25 kids show up!

Yes, it snowed

Unlike 2011 when an October snow took down all the trees and knocked out our power for 10 or 11 days, we didn't have any trees come down. I heard one crash down in the woods nearby but that was the only one. My next-door-neighbor lost a branch on one of his maple trees and my backyard is filled with leaves but we never lost power and the roads didn't freeze up.
I would say we got about 3 inches on the grass and on my car that was parked in the driveway but it didn't stick to the my driveway or the roads.

All-in-all, not a bad first snow.

My sister down in North Carolina decided to remind us that she doesn't get snow. She sent us this today:
She's a funny sister, that sister of mine.

Today is The Veterinarians birthday so we are celebrating with chinese food.

In our world, you are entitled to eat whatever you want on your birthday and she chose chinese food.

Personally, I think she made a good choice. One can never go wrong with a nice batch of crab rangoons.

According to WBZ and the Boston Globe, the Red Sox have contacted Alex Cora multiple times since the World Series and his suspension from baseball ended.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about Cora being brought back to Boston. As a matter of fact, I think there is a good possibility that the Red Sox organization feels the same way and they are only speaking with him out of courtesy.

The man was at the center of the Astro's cheating scandal that resulted in them "stealing" the World Series in 2019 and I think that should give pause to anyone looking to hire him as a manager.

Yes, he has good baseball skills and the players all seem to respect him & love playing for him but in the back of everyone's mind there is going to be the idea that maybe the Red Sox are cheating. Maybe he has dreamed up some scheme that no one has caught on to yet.

There is a possibility that ownership doesn't want that stigma hanging over the team. Then again, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they don't care about that. Maybe Cora is a reformed manager and can be trusted to play the game without cheating.

You can be a millionaire.

Steve Martin once did the following bit on SNL:
You can be a millionaire and never pay taxes!
You say, “Steve! How can I be a millionaire and never pay taxes?”
    First, get a million dollars.
Now, you say, “Steve, what do I say to the tax man when he comes to my door and says, ‘You have never paid taxes’?”
Two simple words. Two simple words in the English language: “I forgot!”
Funny guy, that Steve Martin but funny don't get you money. Well, actually, in his case, it got him a lot of money but that's not important.

What is important is that you need to spend money to make money. Whether it's starting your own business or investing in someone else's, it's going to cost you money. But that's okay because you spend money all the time on crap you don't need or no longer have.

Let's take the iPhone for example:
The original Apple iPhone debuted on June 29, 2007 for a retail price of $499.
On that date, Apple stock was selling for $4.50 per share.
In 2014, Apple issued a 7-1 stock split and in 2020, Apple issued a 4-1 stock split.

A $500 purchase of Apple stock on June 29, 2007 would purchase 111 shares of stock.
The 7-1 split resulted in those 111 shares becoming 777 shares.
The 4-1 split resulted in those 777 shares becoming 3,108 shares.

Today, Apple stock is selling for $113 per share.

If on June 29, 2007 you bought an original iPhone for $500, you would no longer have either the iPhone or the $500.

If on June 29, 2007 you bought $500 worth of Apple stock instead of the iPhone, you would now have $351,000 worth of Apple stock and a brand new iPhoneWhatever that you paid for using the dividends issued by Apple over the years.
I don't know about you, but I would rather have $350,000 and a brand new iPhone than the memories of being the fanciest guy on the block back in 2007.

You don't get rich by buying gadgets, you get rich by investing in the companies that sell the gadgets.

Oh, and for the record, you can get really poor by investing in stocks. In 1999, Viacom took Blockbuster public at $18 per share. If you had invested $100,000 in Blockbuster back then, it would work nothing right now. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Bupkis.

The problem is all of the so-called "investment wizards" said Blockbuster was a hell of a good investment and there was no downside to the business of renting DVDs and video tapes.

I guess Netflix proved those experts wrong...

I'm going to put some DVRs on and fall asleep now.

Looks like Dave Roberts gets to keep his job

The Dodgers won the World Series last night.

The Rays held a one run lead during the five innings that I was awake for but it appears the Dodgers scored two runs in the sixth. The game ended three innings later with the Dodgers winning 3-1.

So now I'm just left with football for my sports fix.

Hopefully someone starts showing curling matches again.

I always enjoy watching curling.

Time to watch some DVRs and fall asleep early.

I'm bored

Now that I've voted, I find myself ignoring all of the election bullshit and the news in general. That means I'm not surfing the interwebs as much as I used to because, well, in my opinion, the internet has become a giant dumping ground of peoples opinions about which political belief system I should adhere to.

I don't want to read that crap.

Hell, I don't even want to get any of it on the bottoms of my shoes.

The problem is, I'm struggling to find entertaining content and links.

Maybe I'll do what our politicians do and just make shit up...

Yes, there is baseball on tonight and I will watch some of it.

While I do that, you can click on these:

Monday, October 26, 2020

Today was sorting day for me.

When it comes to bolts, screws, nuts, nails, clips, fasteners, etc... I am a hoarder. I have containers and bags filled with every screw, bolt, nut etc.. that I have ever removed from old gadgets simply because I live with the belief that you never know when you are going to need 4 inch long #10 machine screw or a plastic insert to protect an electrical cord going into a piece of sheet metal.

The problem is that I simply tossed everything into a container until the container was full and then I started a new container. Well today was the day I decided to put the bolts and screws shorter than 2 inches but longer than 1/2 inch in one container, those longer than 2 inches into another container and those shorter than a half inch into a third container. The nuts all went into one container and washers of every sort into their own container. Finally, everything that did not fit into the first five containers was put into the last container.

I know, I'm odd, but the problem is the other day I was looking for a lock washer to fit a bolt on my lawn mower and I had to look in several different buckets to scrounge one that fit. Now I only need to search through one container.

My Mr. Fix-It life should be a lot easier now.

The Dodgers won last night, taking a 3-2 lead in the series.

There is no game tonight. They play again tomorrow at 8:00 and if the Dodgers win, they will win the series. Also, Dave Roberts will probably get to keep his job.

I don't like the Dodgers but I do like Dave Roberts. He has always struck me as a decent guy with a sense of humor and a pretty good baseball intellect.

The Boston sports wizards are saying that the Patriots are done and they should be sellers before the trade deadline.

The Boston sports wizards should probably shut up and report the sports news instead of trying to manage a team that is currently managed by the winningest coach in NFL history.

Personally, I accept the fact that the Patriots are not going to have a winning season this year and there is a good chance they won't make it into the playoffs.

You know what? I'm okay with that.

Patriots fans have had it good for so long now that we forget that football is a difficult game to win and sometimes your favorite team loses. Besides, the Steelers are looking like they might be the best football team in the league so I got them to pay attention to.

I have voted

This morning my wife said, "The town hall has early voting from 8:30 to 12:30 today. Want to go vote?"

Normally I would say, "Nah, I'll go over on Tuesday because then I get to see people" but then I realized, I don't really want to see people. All the towns around us just went bright red on the covid map which means the 'rona is on an upswing in this area. I don't really want to find out if I'm one of those people who gets it and doesn't know they have it or if I'm one of those people that gets it and dies.

So at 10:00 this morning, we went over and voted.

No, I did not vote for Richie ""Look at me, I'm Irish!" Neal. And no, I did not vote for Eric "ChooChoo" Lesser either. Since they are both unopposed, I left both blank. I was going to write myself in but I decided against it. I'm too old to start a career in politics.

The Rays managed to walk off the Dodgers in the ninth last night and the series is now tied 2 games each.

Yes, there is a game tonight. Yes, I will watch some of it. Yes, I will fall asleep in the middle of the sixth inning.

In other sports news, the Patriots played the 49ers this afternoon and as I type this, it's half time.

I'd like to say that things are going well for the Patriots but I can't. The 49ers are up 23-3 at the half and the way the Patriots are playing, I don't think they'll overcome that deficit in the second half.

I'm going to leave you with this little tidbit of information...

The following graph is from the Boston-area wastewater treatment facilities. It shows the amount of covid they are finding in the sewage over time:
Note the rapid increase that is occurring.

Things are about to get nasty again and this time, I'm going to stock up on toilet paper early.

The damned Dodgers won last night

The Dodgers scored in the first inning and the Rays spent the remaining 8 innings trying to overcome that lead.

Well, maybe "trying" is too strong of a word. Perhaps they spent the rest of the game thinking about overcoming the lead.

When I went to bed, the score was 6-1 in the sixth inning and I found out this morning that the Rays scored one additional run in the ninth, making the final score 6-2.

They play again tonight and once again, I will stay awake to watch as much as possible but 10:00 is pushing the outer edge of my sleep envelope. That means I'll probably make it to the sixth inning again.

They have a rabbit in their sights and I suspect that if they could get through that baby gate, they woud have fun chasing it.
Trust me, they wouldn't be able to catch it but they would have a pretty good time trying.

I got a lot done today so I didn't spend a lot of time surfing for links.

Whelp, guess I screwed that up

Yesterday, I said that there was going to be a baseball game in the evening.

I was wrong.

Apparently I am unable to look at a calendar and discern the date correctly. What can I say, I'm old.

I have checked and rechecked and I can say with full confidence that there will be a baseball game at 8:00 this evening.

Unless of course today is NOT Friday and I'm wrong again in which case, all I can say is, "Who the hell is relying on me to tell them when something is happening? I don't even know what day it is! You hooligans get off my lawn!"

Time for an update on the grandson
He is doing very well. As a matter of fact, I would say he is doing excellent. And so are his parents.

His uncle, my youngest son, is trying hard to be "the cool uncle" and I have every reason to believe he will be successful. I mean, he is a drummer...
This has been your update on my grandson.

No, I did not watch the debate last night. It turns out I would rather watch a football game between two teams I could care less about than listen to those two boneheads tell me how great they are. They both suck.

This ends the political portion of our posting.

Public service part C

In our continuing effort to keep you informed about "things", we bring you this episode where we address the issue of Richie Neal versus....

...no one.

Once again, Richie Neal is running for congress and he is unopposed. I will, as I always do, write myself in because there is no way I will ever vote for Neal.

You vote for whoever you want but if you vote for Richie, you will get to deal with the same congressional representation you have been dealing with since 1988. That's 32 years of the same guy who has done little or nothing for you.

Good luck with that.

The Rays won last night so the series is now tied 1-1.

They play again tonight at 8:00 and I will try to last as long as I did last night. For the record, I went to bed in the 6th inning which was around 10:00pm. Chances of me making it to 10:00 tonight are slim and none.

And for the record, slim has left the building...

Public service part two.

In Massachusetts, we have a ballot question called "Right to Repair Initiative (2020)" also known as Question 1. It apparently has some very wealthy supporters and opponents because there is a television commercial for or against it being run every ten minutes on all channels.

Here's what I know about it:
  • It basically an addendum to the 2013 "Right to Repair" law that addresses technology advances put in place by the auto manufacturers since then.
  • Specifically, it addresses the newest tech of having cars send their operational data wirelessly to a remote receiver.
  • This tech is known as "telematics" and it currently provides a wireless connection between the car and a remote receiver used by the manufacturer who in turn provides the data to a dealership repair center.
  • Q1 requires that manufacturers create a platform that allows the vehicle owner to grant access to the telematics to any mechanic.
  • Q1 requires that the access rights be for a time period specified by the vehicle owner. It can be permanent or for as little as one hour.
  • Proponents say this addition to the Right to Repair law simply brings the law up to date with modern technology.
  • Opponents say this addition to the Right to Repair opens up the possibility the private and personal data may inadvertently fall into the hands of "hackers".
Here's what I say:

Put the question of allowing non-dealer repair places access to my vehicle data aside for a second and ask yourself this question: Why have the auto manufacturers built a system that makes it possible for my personal data from my connected phone to be collected and sent over the air to a remote site?

At no time did I give my car permission to collect my phone data and send it to Detroit.

Granted, my car is 15 years old and the most advanced thing in it is a tiny little display that calculates how many miles I can drive on what's left in my gas tank. The closest my phone gets to being connected to my car is when I plug the charger into the cigarette lighter port (are they still called that?) to charge it.

But that doesn't matter. What matters is that I'm willing to bet the local mechanic that works on my car, who I've known for twenty years, is more ethical than the CEO of some huge car company. I'm pretty sure that most corporations have no moral compass or ethical guidelines, they do whatever they can do to earn money and if they can earn money by collecting and selling data about me, they will.

I don't trust GM any more than I trust Facebook.

Which takes us back to Q1. Personally, I'm going to vote yes because this is at least an attempt to define who controls my data. Specifically, it is an attempt to give me control over it, not the car companies. Just because the technology might fail at some point doesn't mean I should give up control of my data.

This closes today's public service.

The freakin Dodgers beat the Rays 8-3 last night and I am not happy.

I managed to stay awake until the sixth inning and I knew when I went to bed that the Rays were gonna lose.

I'm really hoping the Rays manage to get their act together and beat up on the Dodgers tonight.

Once again, I need to figure out what I want to make for dinner.
While I do that, you can do these:

Time for a little public service.

There four candidates in the race for President of the United States. They are:
  • Republican: Trump/Pence
  • Democrat: Biden/Harris
  • Green: Hawkins/Walker
  • Libertarian: Jorgensen/Cohen
Now, I'm not here to tell you who to vote for, that is your business. No sir, I'm here to tell you who I will probably vote for. So let's get to the reasoning, shall we.

Trump: Nope. Not gonna happen. I didn't vote for him the first time and I won't vote for him this time. He's a back-stabbing, self-centered, delusional, arrogant slum-lord who lacks even the most basic human decency. In other words, I think he's a jerk.

Biden: Nope. Not gonna happen. When he was Vice President, I used to think that Obama woke up every morning and yelled into the hallway, "What the hell did that idiot say last night that I have to correct today?" He says things that indicate to me that he was dropped on his head as a child.

Hawkins: Given that I won't be voting for Trump or Biden, I have to pick someone else and it won't be "Howie" Hawkins. He wants everyone to ride a bike and churn their own butter.

Jorgenson: Maybe but only because her VP running mate is named Spike. I think having a guy named Spike as the VP would be kinda funny.

Write-In: Me. Maybe I'll just write my own name in. Maybe you should write me in too. Why not? I'm just as screwed up as the rest of them but I at least know what it's like to work for a living while raising three kids and keeping a roof over our heads.

Thus ends my public service for the voters. Good luck trying to figure out who you are going to vote for. If you already know, good for you.

Yes, I will watch some of the baseball game tonight but I'm not rooting for either one. This world series is like this presidential election - I dislike both teams.

But before I settle into the game, I need to make some dinner and catch up on some Last Man Standing DVRs.

You can check these out if you want:

The Rays will be playing the Dodgers.

I don't like the Dodgers, never have, never will, so I'm kind of hoping the Rays kick their ass in four games.

On the other hand, I don't like the Rays either but I like the Dodgers even less.

Anyways, the World Series starts tomorrow at 8:00 with the Dodgers as the home team. I will probably watch several innings of the game but not the entire game.

In other sports news, Doc Emrick has retired.

In my opinion, Doc is the voice of hockey. I could listen to him call games all day long.

I will miss his work.

I'm going to make some dinner and then fall asleep early.

These links are the ones that I managed to find for you today:

Covid is killing the Patriots

The Patriots put Sony Michel, Shaq Mason & Derek Rivers on the covid list prior to today's game and it cost them. They lost to the Broncos 18-12.

They have a record of 2-4 which is the worst record they've had in a long time. As a matter of fact, I can't remember them have a .333 record in the last 20 years.

In other sports news, the Rays beat the Astros last night, winning the series and moving on to the World Series.

Tonight, the Braves and the Dodgers will play their final game at 8:00 and I'm really hoping the Braves kick the Dodgers ass and move on to the series.

Licensed and ready to solo.

Now that my daughter has told all of her siblings and friends, I feel I can say this - She has passed the boards and is now a licensed veterinarian.

I am, as always, a proud dad.

And for the record, that sentiment applies equally to all my children. I am a lucky parent who was graced with children that have always made me proud to say I was their dad. They are all decent human beings who are not only successful in what they do but they all enjoy life every day. They all know how to live a good and decent life, not just exist, and for that, I am proud of them.

The Astros are on a roll and have won the last three games, tying the series 3-3. I suspect that they have a fairly significant amount of mental momentum going on because of those three wins and they will probably beat the Rays tonight.

I find that upsetting.

I also find it upsetting that the Dodgers have won their last two games against the Braves and the Braves lead that series 3-2. as I type this, it is the eighth inning and the Dodgers have 3-1 lead.

I also find that upsetting.

I'm going to continue watching baseball until I fall asleep.

Not much going on worth posting so here are some links:

Not much of a post tonight

During my now-famous 8 hour stay in the ER last month, they took a CT scan that showed some things my Primary Care Guy is concerned about. He scheduled me for an MRI and it was today at 5:00pm at Baystate.

If you are unfamiliar with having your innards magnetically resonated, it starts with fasting for at least 4 hours. If you know me, you knwo I hate not eating.

An MRI usually takes about 45 minutes from the time you are pushed into the machine until they slide you back out. Prior to that, they jam a needle into your arm so they can feed your body something called "contrast" to help highlight things.

For the record, I fell asleep but only for a minute. Those machines are very, very loud and while my ability to fall asleep is world-renowned, noises wake me up.

So anyways, because of an emergency of sorts, my 5:00pm appointment was pushed back until 6:00pm and I got out of the machine around 6:50. I got home at 7:30, ate some food and now I'm watching the Rays / Astros game.

I would like to point out that getting old sucks and I've about had it with tests. If this turns out to be nothing, I'm going to tell my primary that's enough, no more tests. I'm sick of tests, I'm sick of being stuck with needles (I also had a blood test this afternoon) and I'm sick of waiting in small rooms.

Okay, I'm done bitching. Here is a link or two:

They are covering the wrong story

Here is a screen capture of the headlines on the Google News Aggregator:

No mention whatsoever about the coronavirus relief talks that are going on between Mnuchin and Pelosi.

The reason the media is focusing on the confirmation hearings is because Pelosi is freakin' insane and I think the media is afraid they will embarrass her.

The Rays lead the Astros 3-0 in their best of seven. One more win and they take the AL pennant and move on to the World Series where I really hope they play the Braves.

Speaking of the Braves, they lead the Dodgers 2-0 in their best of seven so things are looking good for me. And that, after all, is really all that matters in this world.

I realize this is probably going to get me into trouble with some of you but I thougth it was funny as hell.

If you don't think that's funny, you need to go find some other blog to read.

The Braves are on at 6:00 and the Rays are on at 8:30. I'll watch all of the Braves and some of the Rays.

While I do that, you can do these:

They look like a herd of dinasaurs

The cats were going a little nuts this afternoon so I looked out the window to see what was making them dance and squeak.

Seems we had a herd of birds roaming around, slaughtering worms.

I took a little video and I'm not entirely sure how it's going to look on this website but here it is:

They look like a herd of dinasaurs, roaming the savannah and the cats would like nothing more than to get out there. I suspect they would fail at bird-catching but they would have fun trying.

The Rays and the Braves won yesterday's games, giving the Rays a 2-0 lead in their best of seven and the Braves a 1-0 lead in their best of seven.

The Dodgers announced this afternoon that their scheduled pitcher, Clayton Kershaw, was scratched due to "back spasms". This is big news because Kershaw is their ace and without him, tonights game could be a bust.

It would be nice to wake up tomorrow morning and find the Brave up 2-0 in the NLCS and the Rays up 3-0 in the ALCS.

Not much else going on today so how about we get to the links:

My house looks damned good

The new shakes stayed on, the putty I used to fill the small holes in the other shakes did not fall out and the year-old house paint I used to paint it all dried to the correct shade and you can't tell the new from the old.

Sometimes it's the little accomplishments in life that mean the most.

Not much doing today since it was one of those holidays that never meant much to anybody except maybe the italians. It was basically one of those nice quiet days that allowed me to get my workbench cleaned and put back in order as well as getting a bit of documentation done for work.

The Rays managed to beat the Astros yesterday and they are currently leading 3-1 in the seventh today. As much as I dislike the Rays, I really dislike the Astros after the clear proof they cheated in 2019.

The Braves and the Dodgers kick off their series this evening at 8:00. If nothing else is on, I might watch an inning or two of that game.

Like I said the other day, I'd like to see a Rays / Braves world series.

Home ownership is a constant battle

When you own your home, you are responsible for it's upkeep. It is a job that never ends and just when you fix one thing, something else decides to become a problem.

I spent a fair portion of my day on a ladder, fixing woodpecker damage:

I had to replace five shakes and that picture is of the worst one. The rest had one or two holes in them about the size of a quarter but that particular shake was apparently the target of an extremely aggressive asshole of a woodpecker.

I'm thinking it might be time to break out Ol' Bess...

The Patriots game has been postponed to next week but I managed to watch the second half of the Eagles / Steelers game after I finished working on my house. It was nice to see the Steelers win but it would have been nicer to see the Patriots win.

That covid crap is really messing with people and the Patriots are no exception. There are now four people from the Patriots that have tested positive so I will not be surprised if this leads to a few more games being postponed or canceled all together.

As sports go, there is no other sport with more physical contact than football. If one player has it, it's a pretty good bet that one or two others will end up with it.

I'm tired

I'm pretty sure that last time I was not tired was when I was 28 years old. It was just my wife and I, living in a condo with almost no responsibilities to anyone else other than our jobs and school. (I was still chasing my bachelors and my wife was finishing her masters). We didn't have babies yet, our moms were still young enough that we didn't need to worry about them, our bodies were still young enough that we didn't have aches and pains keeping us awake at night and we were young enough that a night out with the boys meant meeting up at 9:00 and partying until 2:30. And then going to Denny's for the greasy-spoon-special.

I was 29 when our first child was born and as soon as the babies arrived, we became tired. Work became more stressful because now we had someone depending on us to keep them alive. School became more imperative because the only way to succeed was to better yourself. As the children aged, they became involved in things that caused us to run like marathoners nearing the finish line only there was no finish line, just more running. There was dance, band, baseball, tennis, lacrosse, field hockey, soccer, friends, scouts, school events, church events, etc... and it never seemed to end.

Now that the children are adults and no longer keeping me awake, my body has taken over the role of sleep-depriver. I wake up at least twice a night to take a leak. I fall asleep at 9:30 at night but I'm up at 4:30 in the morning. A night out with the boys has turned into an afternoon/evening with the old guys where I consume three or four beers and then get to enjoy a three-day-hangover. God forbid I should eat anything heavy after drinking those beers because the acid-reflux will keep me awake all night.

I'm tired but you know what? I wouldn't trade any of it for all the sleep in the world. My wife and I are part of a great family and being tired isn't all that bad. The old saying, "It's a good tired" applies most of the time.

Besides, they got this stuff now-a-days called "ibuprofen" that helps with not only aches and pains but also that hangover thing. Now if they can invent something that stops me from waking up every two hours to pee, I'll be all set.

The New York Aaron Judges are on vacation now and the Rays will take on the Astros in the ALCS.

I've decided that I would like to see a world series between the Atlanta Braves and the Tampe Bay Rays simply because they are both east coast teams who's games are normally played in the eastern time zone. I realize that sporting events are scheduled based on what the network carrying them wants and FOX seems to think starting a four hour baseball game at 8:30 is a good idea but at least they won't be starting them at 10:00.

West coast games suck for those of us on the east coast.

My couch buddies:
This is how we spend our evenings. I have one on each shoulder, purring in each ear.

They seem to have adjusted quite well to living in this house.

How to survive covid.

Here is my simple and easy 10-step plan to survive if you come down with covid-19:
  1. The minute you feel any symptoms of covid-19, have your personal physician leave his office in your basement and come upstairs to diagnose you.
  2. Once your personal physician confirms you have covid-19, have your heavily-armed body guards contact the commander of your personal air wing and arrange for an immediate chopper extraction.
  3. When your personal Sikorsky Sea King helicopter lands in your front yard, you and your personal physician, along with some of your body guards, get aboard for the 10 minute flight to your own personal hospital.
  4. Upon landing in the parking lot of your personal hospital, walk from the helicopter to a waiting Cadillac SUV to be driven the 100 yards to a private entrance to the hospital.
  5. Enter your suite of 6 rooms, complete with its own operating theater, staff and offices for you and your personal physician.
  6. Obtain medicine that is unavailable to the "little people".
  7. After 2 days, make a statement about how you are in perfect health and are going "home".
  8. Get back in your Cadillac SUV, drive over to the chopper, fly back to your residence and stand on the balcony of your house so you can be admired & worshipped from afar.
  9. Have the tax payers foot the bill for all of this.
  10. Keep telling anyone that will listen how good you feel and how they shouldn't worry about covid. Completely gloss over the fact that 220,000 people in your country have died from covid.
Apparently, that is what it takes to beat covid.

Tonight is the final game of the ALDS between the Yankees and the Rays. The winner of tonights game will face the Astros in the best-of-seven ALCS.

The best-of-seven NLCS will be played by the Braves and the Dodgers, two teams I could care less about than the Astros, the Rays and the Yankees.

This season kind of sucked for me. The teams I like, the Red Sox, Pirates, Athletics and Brewers, all failed to advance. That means I'll be watching teams I know nothing about.

Still, it's baseball...

I'm going to cut up the rotissary chicken, cook up some rice & some veggies and settle in to watch the New York Aaron Judges get beat by the Tampa Bay "We used to be the Devil Rays!"

While I do that, you can do these:

I have a debris-free yard

After yesterday's little blast of wind, my entire yard was covered in leaves, pine needles and pine cones. I figured it would be a good day to hook the bagger up to the lawn tractor and take care of business.

I had to stop and empty the bags every few minutes but now that it's done, it doesn't look terrible. I still don't have a nice grass-covered lawn but at least it's not crap-covered either.

The A's won last night, keeping themselves alive to play again today. The Astros lead the series 2-1 but the A's don't plan on rolling over. As I type this, they are in the sixth inning and the score is 7-4 in favor of the Astros so it's not really looking to good...

There is, however, an upside: Listening to Don Orsillo call a game has been the highlight of my evenings. The man is a great announcer and letting him go was the biggest mistake NESN has ever made.

As for the Rays and Yankees, the Rays won last night as well and they lead the series 2-1. As much as I dislike the Rays, I would like to see them beat the New York Aaron Judges because I'm sick and tired of ESPN fawning all over them. Even when they lose, ESPN continues to write headlines that make you think they are the only team in existence.

Maybe I should just stop reading ESPN....

So a bunch of tiny-dick yabbos decided they were going to kidnap the governor of Michigan and put her on trial for treason.

Do you know what the beauty of our country is? It's the fact that no elected official is given the job for life. They are all given the office for a few years at most. We call it "the vote" and if you don't like one of your elected officials, you can vote against them when their term of office is up. If enough people feel the same as you, that person will lose and be out of office.

It's quite simple, really. No need for guns, sham trials or "storming the castle". Just go to the polls and cast your vote.

I'm going to watch some more baseball and eat some dinner.

You can do whatever you want. If that includes clicking on links, here are some to click on:

Why did they cheat?

I've been watching the Athletics and the Astros play baseball for the last three days and I can't help but wonder why the Astros felt the need to cheat during the 2019 season. They are a good team, they play the game well and they seem to have fun doing it. What made them think they needed to cheat in order to win?

I don't understand it.

Oh, and by the way, just because I think they are a good team doesn't mean I trust them. Watching them play, I keep listening for the telltale sound of a trash can being struck just before a pitch is thrown.

There was not a lot of news today that didn't involve Eddie Van Halen dying, Johnny Nash dying, Trump "feeling great!" or Hurricane Delta getting ready to roll into Louisiana (there's a shock) and since I find all of that boring (well, maybe not Johnny Nash dying. I liked him), I didn't read up on any of it.

I find not reading the news makes my day go a lot smoother.

We had 40-50mph winds this afternoon and I have three things to say about that:
  1. Man, what a ride!
We had tree branches coming down in our woods like rifle shots. I thought for sure my fence was going to get taken out. Fortunately, that did not happen.

  2. We did not lose power!
My daughter and I moved the generator out of the garage and onto the back porch earlier today in anticipation of losing power.
Fortunately, that did not happen either.

  3. Whoever is responsible for running the Emergency Notification System at Spectrum is an asshole.
Just as the weather dweeb was about to tell me about the pending storms, the Emergency Notifications System kicked in, shutting him off and warning me that New Hampshire was under a severe thunderstorm watch. I live in southern Massachusetts. I don't care about New Hampshire. I care about Hampden County Massachusetts. But I didn't know about the incoming storm in Hampden County because Spectrum shut the weather guy off and told me about New Hampshire.
    Assholes...
Sometimes you're the bug, sometimes you're the windshield. Today we were the windshield.

Sports...

The Patriots lost to the Chiefs last night.

The Athletics lost to the Astros last night.

The Rays lost to the Yankees last night.

That is all I have to say about any of that.

Last night, whilst I was surfing the interwebs and watching sports, I decided to do some speed testing. I noticed some lag in my internetage and I wanted to make sure I was still enjoying the speeds I pay for. And to make sure I was getting what I paid for, I did speed tests on four different test sites.

The first results are from fast.com, the second are from speakeasy.net, the third are from Spectrum.com and the fourth are from dslreports.com:

Yep, I'm still getting what I'm paying for.

And the part I really like about my speeds is that test was done over my WiFi. I am happy with not only my ISP but also with my mesh router setup. I get those speeds everywhere in my house.

Go A's!

For the record, I'm rooting for the A's. I'd really like to see them thrash the Astros.

The game started at 4:10 this afternoon and right now, they are in the 3rd inning and the Astros are up 3-0.

Hopefully things keep going the way they are going.

The marketing team at "Smile At The World Orthodontics" knows what it is doing:

I need to figure out what we are going to have for dinner, finish up watching this baseball game and then watch some football.

I'd watch some additional baseball but I don't like either the Rays or the Yankees so no, I'm not going to watch that.

While I stare at my tv and then fall asleep early, you can click on these:

No Patriots, no Steelers.

No Baseball either so I bing-watched an entire season of Last Man Standing.

Thank goodness for DVRs...

Not much to prattle on about today. I've stayed away from the news as much as I can because, to be honest with you, I'm sick of politics and coronavirus.

As a matter of fact, I don't know what's worse - politics or covid.

I do know that trying to prevent covid with politics is stupid. Covid doesn't give a shit about your political beliefs.

With that in mind, I'm just gonna leave you with these links:

Well, it's been a fun three game season...

Now that Newton has tested positive for the 'rona. They've tentatively rescheduled tomorrow's game until Monday or Tuesday and if that happens, I guess we're all gonna get to see what Brian Hoyer can do with a football.

Since the NFL is reporting that multiple players on both teams have tested positive, I suspect the game won't be played at all this week.

In other 'rona news, it's beginning to look like a lot of people at the White House have tested positive for covid.

I believe the term they use when they talk about groups of college students gathering in large groups and getting the 'rona is "covid cluster".

It's beginning to look like the White House is no different than a cheap frat house filled with freshmen - a giant covid cluster...

You may find this shocking but I had to mow my lawn today.

And I don't mean I had to mow it because "the weeds are out of control". I mean I had to mow it because the grass was too long.

If the fertilizer guy hadn't thrown a load of fertilizer o it last week, I would have bagged it it was so long. As it was, I had to go over certain spots two times just to break down the grass blades and prevent it from piling up.

The rain is helping and they are predicting more on the way early next week.

I'm going to go make some pizzas and then watch some DVRs.

Is anyone shocked by this?

No one should be shocked that the man with the best medical care, the highest level of security and access to some of the brightest scientific minds on the planet has come down with the 'rona.

No one should be shocked at all.

The reason no one should be shocked by this is because Trump is crazy. He honestly believes he is always the smartest person in the room and he doesn't have to listen to his doctors, his scientists or his security detail.

He is what we used to call a "mental midget".

What I am shocked by is that it took this long for him to contract the disease. I'm also kind of shocked that his wife has it too. I figured she wasn't really spending very much "up close and personal time" with him, if you know what I mean.

In a related thought I had when I read the news about Trump, I really hope Pence doesn't get it because if both Trump and Pence get the 'rona, the next in line for the Presidency is Psycho Nancy Pelosi.

If you think Trump is bad, imagine an executive branch run by Nancy "You can't see what's in it until after you vote for it!" Pelosi.

We'll all end up with a tax rate around %50 and everything you buy will triple in price as every business raises prices to offset the effects of the socialization of corporate America. And if you think there will be any "mom-and-pop" businesses left, you are sadly mistaken. She and congress will put them out of business with draconian rules and taxes.
