Early mornings suck

I woke up at 3:45 this morning and try as hard as I might, I could not fall back to sleep. I finally got out of bed around 4:45 and went downstairs to drink some coffee, make my lunch and watch some news.

Now I'm freakin' exhausted.

I'm going to force myself to stay awake and watch as much of the game as possible but I suspect I wil fail and end up falling asleep after an inning or two.

Speaking of baseball, the Red Sox had another come-from-behind win last night and the Yankees had another loss. That put the Red Sox up eight and a half games.

I'm liking the way things are going.

Hopefully they get Sale (on the DL with shoulder inflammation) and Price (day-to-day with a wrist injury) back soon and they continue kicking ass.

Their record is currently 93-42 (.689) and there are only 27 games left in the season. If they keep playing the way they are playing and winning 70 percent of their games, I suspect they'll cross the 100 win mark sometime around September 12.

Seven and a half games

The Red Sox kicked the crap out of the Marlins last night and the Yankees lost to the White Sox. This gave the Red Sox a seven and a half game lead.

The Red Sox are now in Chicago to play a four game series against the aforementioned White Sox.

Let's hope the White Sox overcome their recent winning streak against the Yankees and go into a slump....

I know it's been hot lately but I wanted to give you a bit of a warning about what's to come:

This has been your bit of a warning.

Dinner is done and the ball game is on so let's get to it:

The White Sox did it!

The White Sox beat the Yankees last night so this morning I woke up to find that the Red Sox held a six and a half game lead in the ALEast.

Keep kicking butt there White Sox.

Until Thursday.

Then you can start losing again.

As for the Red Sox, they start their two game series against the Marlins tonight and I'm hoping the Marlins have not suddenly decided to go on a winning streak.

I got some "feedback" on my John McCain post the other day and I want to address those folks right now:

Piss off....

John McCain was asked by his country to take up arms against an enemy. He did so willingly and whether or not he agreed with the war was not even a thought to him. He went because it was the right thing to do and he paid a price for that. he spent his youth in a dank prison being beaten daily.

Donald Trump managed to dodge the draft and avoid serving his country. He spent his youth partying like a rockstar on his daddy's money.

John McCain made it a habit of never saying anything bad about anyone, including his political adversaries.

Donald Trump makes it a habit of saying bad things about everyone, including people who are loyal to him and allegedly on his side.

I have no respect for Donald Trump. I do respect the office of the President of the United States.

I voted for John McCain because I thought he was an honest man who knew that putting our soldiers in harms way should be a last resort. Donald Trump has been saying things that border on flat out lies & falsehoods and rattling the sabers without so much as a thought to what the military goes through.

I'm going to watch some baseball.

The lead is down to six games.

The Red Sox are off tonight but the Yankees are starting a three game series against the White Sox. I'm hoping the White Sox suddenly come to life and take all three games from the Yankees but I suspect that tomorrow morning I will find the Red Sox have a five and a half game lead.

Tomorrow the Red Sox will start a two game series against the Marlins and I'm hoping they win both games. That will at least give them a mental kick to hopefully break out of this slump they find themselves in.

While I try to find something, anything, to watch tonight, you can see if these are interesting or not:

Our world became a little worse

I was never going to vote for Hillary Clinton. She always struck me as a dishonest person who not only didn't care about me, she was actively against me. Every time she said something, I thought to myself, "What a load of bullshit!"

At one point early in the campaign, I actually thought I might be able to vote for Trump simply because he kept saying it was time to get rid of the lifetime politicians.

Then this happened.

And that my friends, is the reason I would never vote for Donald Trump nor will I ever have any respect for him. He had no reason to say what he said and he has never made an effort to rescind his insult.

When called, John McCain served his country with honor and distinction. He fell into the hands of this nation's enemies and suffered for five year before finally coming home. Once back here, he entered into a life of continued servitude to the people of his adopted home state (He was born in Panama. His wife Cindy is from Arizona)

John McCain started his political career as a strong Reagan conservative but as time went on he came to understand that there are some non-conservative ideals that have merit and he worked to bring people towards the middle. He took a less hard-line approach to things and attempted to soften the conservative approach some of his colleagues held.

That is why I changed from unregistered to republican and voted for him in the 2000 primaries. That is why I voted for him in 2008. It's why I would have voted for him every time he ran. It's why I thought he was one of the few politicians who gave a shit about me while at the same time knowing the contents of my wallet weren't there for the government to pilfer and hand out with total indiscretion. It's why I thought he gave a shit about those less fortunate who not only needed some help from us, they deserved some help from us.

Unfortunately for McCain in 2008, his choice of running mate was not ideal and he was up against a charming, slick-talker named Obama who seemed to be able to say exactly what people wanted to hear. Obama barely beat McCain in the popular vote but soundly defeated him with the electoral college. McCain gave a gracious concession speech went back to Arizona to continue serving his people.

And that is where he took his last breath.

Thanks for everything you did for us John. You always did the right thing, even when it was the hard thing. Rest peacefully Senator.

In other bad news, the Red Sox lost again last night. Then they went and got their ass kicked again this afternoon. That means their lead in the ALEast has dropped to six and a half games with the Yankees scheduled to play the Orioles at 8:00 tonight. Since the Orioles have the worst record in baseball, I'm assuming that when I wake up tomorrow morning I will find that the Red Sox lead has slipped to six games.

I knew they would slump eventually but the upside is the slump comes in August. Hopefully they get over it in the next week or so and get back to being unbeatable in September / October.

Despite how much fun it is to watch them win during the regular season, it's even more fun to watch them win in October.

It was bound to happen.

David Pecker is the CEO of The National Enquirer. He is also a friend and confidant of the Donald Trump.

Recently, David was given immunity and agreed to offer testimony to the Mueller Investigation.

Once that news was released, I knew it was only a matter of time before something like this found it's way to my screen:

The Red Sox lost last night and they aren't doing well tonight. As I type this, it is tied 1-1 in the fifth inning.

Sox In 2

The Red Sox and the Indians played a 1:00 today and the Red Sox won, splitting the series two-two.

I paid attention to the game via GameDay which kinda sucks. Let's face it, watching a cartoon batter stand still while red or green or blue balls suddenly appear in front of him isn't really baseball. It's better than nothing but it's not baseball.

So now the Red Sox are nine and a half games ahead of the Yankees and I'm watching them on NESNs "Sox in 2". I know the outcome but it's fun to watch anyways.

While I watch the game, you can click on these links:

They lost the second game

Seems like Terry Francona may have a good understanding of what it takes to beat the Red Sox because the Indians beat them again last night.

That's three losses in a row for the Red Sox. And with the Yankees win last night, the Red Sox lead in the ALEast has been cut to eight games.

They ave two more games against the Indians (tonight and tomorrow) and I am really hoping they can win those two games.

They lost the first game

The Indians managed to win last night, cutting the Red Sox lead in the ALEast to nine games.

Today was as nice as yesterday.

Normally, during my work day, I take two walks. One around 11:00 and again around 2:00.  I do this because, well, I'm old and sitting on my fat ass all day is probably not a good thing for my legs & back. I get out of my office and out into the world where I walk for about a mile or so.

If it's hot and sunny, I stick to the sidewalks with a lot of shade so I don't burn my overly-frail burn-and-peel skin.

If it's raining, I grab my umbrella and only take a short walk.

No matter what the weather is, I take my two walks.

Today, however, I took four walks.

It was one of those days were sitting indoors just seemed like a real bad idea and walking seemed like a great idea.

If we have the same weather tomorrow, I might just grab my laptop and work at a picnic table.

Have I mentioned that I like where I work?

This is why I live in New England

Today was one of those days that I love. Reasonable temperatures, no humidity, a little breeze and plenty of sun. These days are few and far between so I enjoy them when they come.

The Red Sox lost and the Yankees won. That means the Red Sox are now nine and half games ahead in the ALEast.

That is nothing to complain about.

Errands have been run, baseball has been watched and the lawn has been mowed. I am currently making pizza for our diner and then I'm going to watch bad television.

Maybe I'll watch America's Funniest Videos or something like that.

Looks like Worcester is getting a ball team

The Red Sox AAA affiliate announced that it is moving from Pawtucket to Worcester in the next two years and, boy, are the people of Rhode Island pissed!

The Governor of RI and the Mayor of Pawtucket are both blaming the legislature for failing to act in a decisive manner.

I would like to point out to the Governor and Mayor that at no time in the history of mankind has any governmental body ever made a decision with any kind of speed.

You see, each member of the august body needs to tell every other member what they think. Then they need to form committee's to discuss proposals. Once they have finished discussing proposals, they vote on one of the proposals but before they can vote, certain members get to slip additional things into the bill.

So instead of having the "Baseball Retention Bill" being voted on, you have the "Baseball Retention and Free Lunch for all State Senators Forever Bill"

This of course makes the state reps upset and they decide against voting for the bill.

When that happens, it goes back to committee where they....

Well, you know what they do.

So anyways, it looks like Worcester, the armpit of Massachusetts, will have itself a Minor League Baseball team. I suspect they will call themselves the Worcester Red Sox which means they will have the nickname, The WorSox.

Sounds almost medieval.

There is baseball tonight

The Red Sox are back in Boston hosting the Rays for a three game series. Hopefully they take all three games but two out of three is also fine. The Yankees lost last night so the Red Sox started today with a ten and a half game lead in the ALEast.

Ten and a half games is better than ten.

I've avoided this subject but I just can't ignore it anymore.

Another Mass State Trooper has been charged with, and pled guilty to, fraud. He is accused of stealing $11,000 by filing for hours he never actually worked.

This makes six troopers charged and another 34 under scrutiny because they all managed to file for hours they never worked.

The MSP has always been an organization that was proud of it's heritage and it's professionalism. The troopers behaved with integrity and a certain esprit de corps.

Now, they are a tainted organization. People are asking where were the bosses while these guys were stealing from us? Why were these guys allowed to behave that way with no one saying anything? What kind of cop steals?

All that means that the remaining 90% of the department, the honest, hard-working cops that do their job with integrity every day, are now forced to work extra hard to overcome this stain.

I feel bad for those cops left to carry on and bear the burden they've been saddled with.

I do not feel bad for the ones that violated our trust and stained their comrades by committing crimes of such magnitude that Tony Soprano would be proud.

And that is all I have to say about that.

I'm going to try and watch all nine innings of this game.

So what's happening?

Well, my wife is home from her trip out to Iowa.

My wife and daughter made their two-day drive out to Iowa last week and my wife stayed out there with our daughter to help her get ready to start her third year of vet school. They got some fun in as well when they visited the Iowa State Fair on one day and a local arboretum on another.

Apparently the arboretum has the worlds largest garden gnome (daughter for scale):

My wife flew back home yesterday and i safely retrieved her from the airport and brought her home where The Dog was extremely happy to see her.

While those two got reacquainted, I watched the Red Sox bullpen give away last nights game to the Phillies.

And that, quite simply, is why I failed to provide you with any entertaining postings last night.

As for me, I managed to get an appointment with the local medical flight examiner to renew my class 3 medical certificate. It expired last May but I have been flying under what is known as Basic Med. Basic Med is simply a certificate from my primary care physician saying he found nothing wrong with me and thinks I'm okay to fly.

I could continue flying under Basic Med for as long as I like but there is something about flying that makes me want to have a doctor who is trained in medical evaluations for pilots tell me that I am okay to fly.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I love flying but I don't want to die in fiery crash because I did something stupid.

So tomorrow morning I'll go see Doc G (she's also a pilot) and have her tell me I'm okay to fly. Then we'll talk about her dog Ranger, her Carbon Cub aircraft and a few of our mutual friends up at the airport.

The Red Sox are on a day off but NESN is carrying the Pawtucket Red Sox game.

Not a lot to say today

I got home around 5:30 and was grateful that there were no "accidents".

The Dog is still not feeling good so I have been running home during lunch to let him out and then pray that he is good until I get home.

Today he was good.

The Yankees lost last night and that put the Red Sox up 10 games in the ALEast.

I'm hoping the Red Sox can beat the Phillies tonight and either stay 10 games in the lead or maybe move to 10.5 games if the Yankees lose.

Either way, I'll be happy.

Let's talk about airplanes

An airline baggage handler in Seattle managed to start a multi-ton tug and push a large twin-engine turboprop aircraft out of it's parking bay. Not an easy task but doable by anyone who has ever driven a large trailer in reverse.

Then he got into the plane and somehow figured out how to start those two turboprop engines. Trust me, those things aren't your typical fuel-injected-electronic-ignition engines we are all familiar with in our cars. No sir, those babies are turbocharged high-power aircraft engines that require a fairly in-depth knowledge of propeller speeds in relation to manifold pressures. Too fast at too high a pressure and the engine tears itself to pieces.

After getting both engines running, he managed to taxi that large aircraft with its 93 foot wingspan along the taxiway and on to the runway. Imagine your car is 93 feet wide and the drivers seat is in the middle. Try not to hit anything making a turn!

Once he was on the runway, he gave both engines full throttle and held the plane on the centerline long enough to get it airborne.

For the most part, planes want to fly and the Q400 is no different. Give it enough forward energy and it climbs into the sky like a bird with or without any input from the pilot. The trick to flying is knowing how to not do something stupid that takes away the forward energy like put it into too steep of a climb or shut down the engines.

Now all of that is pretty amazing but it's not the amazing part.

The amazing part is that he managed to not only get the plane into the air, he also did a barrel roll and a loop. That's the amazing part.

And for the record, the Q400 is not designed to do aerobatics so I'm still kind of amazed the wings didn't rip off during the loop. Bombardier did a pretty good job designing and building those things.

After seeing how much punishment it can take, I'd fly in one. I just don't want the pilot to do any loops or rolls.

Turns out NESN is replaying Sunday afternoon's game so I get to enjoy it again.

Another lazy day

My dog is sick and he requires frequent trips out side. This means I'm staying close to home so I can keep an eye on him and hopefully prevent any accidents.

I did manage to get some grocery shopping done this morning so, hey, I got that going for me.

The Red Sox once again have a nine and a half game lead in the ALEast.

They took all four games from the Orioles and are now on a travel day to go to Philadelphia where on Tuesday and Wednesday, they will play the Phillies.

And that means we will get to watch the Red Sox pitchers swing a bat.

That's always interesting.

I have some DVRs I can watch tonight but I suspect I'll be falling asleep early.

Today was a very lazy day

I listened to the weather dweebs this morning and they said, "It's going to rain. A lot." I decided to check my gutters because I have one piece of crap white pine tree in my side yard that insists on spewing needles and cones all over my roof and in my gutters.

So this morning I checked and cleaned out my gutters.

And that, my friends, was the extent of my effort today.

I watched the Red Sox beat the Orioles this afternoon and managed to take a nap.

I could easily adopt the lifestyle of my dog.

Do a little something, take a nap.

Watch a little something, take a nap.

Eat a little something, take a nap.

This afternoons baseball game was a makeup of a rain out last month. The scheduled game will be at 7:00.

Guess who finally got some flying time!

That's right, the weather finally cooperated enough to get me up in the air and practice some landings.

It was a great day to fly with little or no wind and what small wind we had was from the NNW so basically a decent headwind with a very minor crosswind component from the right. That's why the leg on the right side is a little angled in to the left.

I managed to get in 9 landings and 5 of them were pretty much perfect.

Of the other 4, I bounced 2 and went a little long on the other 2. Those 4 were because I was a little high coming in which means I was a little fast. The bounces weren't bad and long ones simply resulted in me having to taxi back on the runway in order to make the taxiway.

All-in-all, I am pretty damned happy with my hour and half in the air.

I should do this more often.

The weather dweebs assured me this morning that there would be no rain today. They said, "Sunny and warm with just a little humidity."

They lied.

It was humid all day and right around 3:00 this afternoon, we had a nice little downpour.

Fortunately I was able to get my lawn mowed before the rain hit because the rest of the week looks like it's going to be nothing but rain.

Then again, the weather dweebs have just proven they really don't know what's going to happen.

Bad Math

Boy, did I screw up yesterday.

Let’s revisit that entire post, shall we:

First off, there were only 48 games left in the season last night (only 47 after last nights win), not the 68 I claimed.

The second mistake is that the record for wins is 114 in a 162 game season, not 116. The 116 was actually won in a season that saw less than 162 games. No one will ever top that record because they now play 162 games.

With 47 games left on the season and a current winning percentage of .704 (70%), the Red Sox could possibly win 33 more games this season, giving them a record of 114 (81+33). That would put them in a tie for the most wins in a season.

In order for them to beat that number, they would have to actually start playing better baseball than they are currently playing.

The chances of them playing better baseball than they have been playing are pretty damned slim.

To all you math wizards out there, sorry for my error. I would like you to forget that post ever existed.

As for last nights game, I only made it through 7 innings before falling asleep and I don't feel like I'll make it much past 7 innings tonight.

I'm tired.

Eighty wins

The Red Sox have reached the 80 win mark.

Trust me when I say that is a pretty good record considering there are still 68 games left to play. Assuming they win half of those games, they will end the season with a record of 114 - 48.

That is two games below the best 162 game record of 116 - 46 put up by the Mariners back in 2001.

Let's take it a bit further, shall we - Since the Red Sox are currently boasting a .702 winning percentage with 68 games to play, let's assume they will win 70 percent of those games. That means they could win 47 more games. If they win 47 more games, they will have a record of 127 - 35.

No major league baseball team has ever won 127 games in a season.

The idea that the Red Sox might set a record for the most wins in a single season is something to look forward too.

I didn't find many links today because I was busy doing day off stuff. What I did find is here:

There is baseball tonight

The Red Sox are up in Toronto to start a three game series against the Blue Jays. Hopefully things go well and they continue their wining streak. They have a 10-3 record against the Blue Jays so I'm not thinking they are up against a tough team.

As a matter of fact, the next two weeks looks pretty damned good because once they finish with the Blue Jays, they head down to Baltimore for a four game series against the last place Orioles, then over to Philadelphia for two games against the Phillies and finally home where they will host the Rays for three games.

None of those teams are the odds-on-favorites to beat the Red Sox.

I'm going to watch some baseball.

Nine and a half games

The Red Sox pulled off a miracle and swept the Yankees. They took all four games and now have a strong nine and a half gamer lead in the ALEast.

I am a happy guy.

I bet Alex Cora is also a happy guy.

Aaron Boone? Not so much.

There is no baseball tonight so I'm watching Thor - Ragnorak.

So far, it's kinda weird.

I'm a pessimist.

I know the Red Sox are tearing up the game and I'm loving every minute of it but the bottom line in all of this is they will slump at some point. And we all need to mentally prepare for that event.

At some point in the next two months, they will go through a losing streak. It's bound to happen.

Sale will have two or three bad outings, Price will be Price, Betts and/or Martinez will go 0-10 at the plate, Benintendi will start hitting into double plays, etc...

They have been playing full out and it's starting to show with minor injuries. Something will happen and it will pull on their collective mental tendons and they will go into a slump.

I expect it and if I'm wrong, I will be the first to celebrate how wrong I was.

The problem with being a pessimist is that we are right more the 50% of the time.

If they can keep this pace up until the last pitch is thrown and he last out is made without going through a slump, it will make them one of the best teams ever seen in the MLB.

It will make them awesome.

Enough speculation. Let's talk about tonight's game

The game will be carried by those idiots over at ESPN which means it won't start until after 8:00 tonight.

It also means we get to listen to those two idiots on ESPN, Vasgersian and Rodriguez, fawn all over Mendoza like two 14 year old boys trying to get into  the prom queen's pants.

But more importantly, Price will be on the mound and historically, the Yankees own him. They kick his ass every time he pitches against them. I think it's a mental thing with him - he stands on the mound and when the Yankee batters step up to the plate, he looks up and sees giants with telephone poles in their hands.  This makes him gets all weak-kneed & fluffy-armed and he ends up throwing the baseball right over the heart of the plate at speeds my partially paralyzed grandmother could hit.

Hopefully tonight will be different. Judge is on the DL, Stanton has been less than perfect at the plate lately (although he did go 2-4 yesterday) and their wunderkin, Gleyber Torres, seems to be a little bit intimidated by the Red Sox pitchers.

Perhaps young Mr. Price will stand on the mound and not see giant horned baseball demons at the plate.

Perhaps he will throw hard and pick the corners.

Perhaps his slider will disappear on the batter and his curve will have an amazing vertical drop.

Hey, I'm trying to be positive here. Work with me on this, will ya.

Eight and a half games

The Red Sox have taken three of the four game series with one more to play tomorrow and they now lead the Yankees by eight and a half games.

This is a great thing and I'm hoping it gets better tomorrow but the scheduled pitcher is Price and historically, the Yankees own him. He just can't seem to strike them out.

Hopefully he has a good day tomorrow and turns things around.

As for the rest of the team, they have some injuries that are affecting them but they are absolutely playing some great baseball. Hopefully one or two guys are coming off the DL soon because they still got a lot of baseball left to play and I'm a firm believer in Alex Cora with his rotating days off for everyone.

That gives all of them some much-needed rest as they head towards October and the playoffs.

So now that baseball is over for the day, I've got to find something else to watch. Hopefully I have some DVRs because there isn't much on on a Saturday night.

While I hunt for entertainment, you should see if these are entertaining:

No tornados for us

It looks like they might be having some tornado activity up in the Greenfield area.

Nothing against Greenfield but man, I'm glad it's not near us. We've had enough tornados, thank you very much.

The Red Sox managed to stomp the crap out of the Yankees last night and as of this morning they held a six and a half game lead in the ALEast.

I like this lead but I'd like seven and a half games even more....

I have made contact with Pat and he is doing well.

This is a good thing.

Here's the statistics for the visitors to this web site for the last seven days:

As you can see, Chrome is no longer the big dog on the block. Firefox seems to be taking the lead with internet explorer falling far behind.

I am still a little surprised at the number of visitors that run Unix.

The Red Sox lost last night and I kinda blame Pomeranz. He was pitching like crap and just couldn't seem to fool the batters. The only ones he did fool were the two he hit to put on base.

The Yankees won, as I predicted, and are now only five games behind the Red Sox in the ALEast. I'm hoping they lose tonight but the Orioles couldn't beat a little league team right now so chances are slim that is gonna happen.
