They got swept

The Red Sox pretty much sealed their fate yesterday when they lost to the Astros 7-4.

With that loss, they are now six and a half games out of the wildcard race.

Further more, they are projected as having a slightly better than 4% chance of making the playoffs.
On the upside, the Yankees are projected as having a 0.2% chance of making the playoffs...

You know what I find amusing?

I find it very amusing that these guys all claim that they are not terrorists and the reason they did what they did was because of some unrelated problem within their family.

Let me just say to Mr Biggs, "Don't blame your daughter for your decision to attack and take over the U.S. Capitol. She had nothing to do with it."

He does blame Trump and that I can see. Trump spent most of the day imploring those people to "go to the Capitol and fight!" His attorney is employing a redirection of blame when he says, "...his commander-in-chief" but he is also not wrong. Biggs is not a member of the military hence Trump was not is commander-in-chief.

What bothers me about this whole situation is that prior to Trump, I had one solid thing I could rely on in this country and that was we elected our leaders in a peaceful manner and the transition of power was done in a way to assure us that the continuity of government occurred in a peaceful and secure manner.

We don't really have that anymore. We have a fear that our polling places might be scenes of violence. We have a fear that our personal choices could result in attacks from people who don't like the way we think. We have a fear that the solid foundations of our government have been weakened by an onslaught from Trump's cult.

I'm going to watch some DVRs and fall asleep early.

It's not looking good

The Red Sox lost again last night, getting beat by the Astros 6-2.

They are now a distant six and a half games out of the wildcard with only twenty nine games left to play in the season.

Today's final game against the Astros started at 4:10. As I post this, they are in the 2nd inning and the score is 0-0. Hopefully the Red Sox avoid the sweep and win this game.

Tomorrow they are on an off-day while they head to the Missouri side of Kansas City where they will start a three-game series against the Royals on Friday.

And speaking of baseball, this line from this story about the Yankees tells me everything I need to know about the Yankees: Talk about a shitty way to find out you've just been fired. They didn't even have the decency to tell him to his face.

My insomnia is kicking my ass so I'm glad the game started at 4:00.

While I watch the rest of this game and then probably fall asleep on the couch, you should. check these out:

Short post

The Red Sox got their ass kicked last night, losing the the Astros 13-5 .

This is what happens when you have a limited number of starting pitchers.

I'm really hoping tonight goes better

Another round with the Astros

The Red Sox face off against the Astros this evening and I will be watching.

Not sure how many innings I'll last because I didn't get a lot of sleep last night. I feel like I might be going into one of those insomnia phases I go through every so often.

The Red Sox put Abreu on the paternity list. They also put Bernardino and Reyes on the DL. That made room for some callups and one guy they are calling up is a kid named Ceddanne Rafaela.

Rafaela is the Red Sox number three prospect and he seems to be hitting the ball well. He's also a speedster on the basepath, which means he could steal a lot of bases.

They need all the help they can get so hopefully this kid is helpful.

Pat, Willie and I played golf this morning and once again, my back did not suffer any issues.

I'm telling you, it's the heat and humidity that kills me, not the actual game of golf.

And for the record, I got two pars. The rest of them were 10s...

Time for some news and then baseball.

The Red Sox won yesterday's game against the Dodgers, beating them 8-5.

Today, things didn't go so well and they lost 4-7.

They are not making any headway in the wildcard race. As a matter of fact, they are slipping further behind.
They are now four and a half games out of the wildcard.

Tomorrow they start a three-game series against the Astros.

I'm going to watch a bunch of Bering Sea Gold DVR's, make some dinner and fume over the Red Sox loss today.

While I do that, you might want to check these few links out:

They lost

Despite taking an early 3-0 lead, the Red Sox endecd up losing to the Dodgers 7-4.

Crawford gave them a solid six innings, giving up two earned runs and striking out seven. Pivetta came in and had what can bets be described as an unusually bad outing, going only two innings and giving up four earned runs while striking out three.

Todays game started at 4:10 and as of now, it's in the bottom of the fifth inning and the score is 4-2 in favor of the Dodgers.

For those of you that wonder why I love baseball as much as I do, here is a picture my mom took back in 1967:

I'm the short kid. The tall kid is my best friend Brian. He lived two houses down from me and we were always together. We also played baseball in the parochial league for Holy Cross on Eddywood St. in Springfield.

I remember the day the picture was taken. We had just finished a game against OLSH and we were standing in the driveway at Brian's house. It was a good day.

Brian passed away seven years ago and I still miss him but I will always remember playing baseball with him. He could hit a baseball a country mile.

I'm going to make dinner and watch the rest of this ball game.

Someone told him to shut up

I checked Donald I'm 6'3" and weigh 215 pounds, just like Tom Brady! Trump's truth thingee and there are no text posts from him. I have to assume that someone on his legal defense team told him that he had the right to remain silent and maybe he should do that before he finds himself in Georgia prison.

What he has done is post a lot of links to stories about his height and weight.

This one is my favorite:

Oh, and he's actually selling t-shirts on his website with his mugshot on them:
You just can't make this shit up...

The Dodgers are in Boston to play a three-game series against the Red Sox. They start play tonight with the first pitch at 7:10.

Crawford is the starter tonight and it would be nice if he can give them five or six solid innings.

The Red Sox are curently three and a half games out of the wildcard spot. That means they need to win every game they can and both the Mariners & the Astros need to lose every game they can.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to watch the game because it's being carried by Apple TV. That means my baseball experience this evening will be listening to it on the radio and tracking it on the MLB gameday webpage.

I have to eat some dinner and then set up my baseballing stuff.

No, I did not watch the debate

Poltical discourse has become a contest to see who can come up with the shittiest, nastiest things to say about other people.

I won't watch that.

Pat, Willie & I met up and played nine holes of golf this afternoon. I'm happy to say that my back feels just fine.

I do suspect playing on a day with 70° temps and almost no humidity might have contributed to the lack of back damage. The last time we played it was hot and sticky. I don't do well with hot and sticky.

So now we just need to figure out when we go again.

Last night, the Red Sox won 7-5 over the Astros but it took them 10 innings to do it.

Today's game was at 2:10 this afternoon with the Red Sox beating up on the Astros 17-1 and splitting the four-game series.

This puts them three and a half games out of the wildcard.

He just can't stop spewing:

He hasn't yet turned himself over to the authorities in Georgia but several of his cult members have.

And for the record, there are several social media polls about what his booking weight and height will be. Most people are betting he'll be 300+ and 5'11". This of course has resulted in several memes being created. This is the best one so far:

I've got to eat my pizza and figure out what to do about my evening entertainment. I have numerous Bering Sea Gold DVR's I can watch but it looks like MLB is showing the Blue Jays / Orioles game so maybe I'll watch that.

Not a good night.

The Red Sox lost another game of their four-game series last night. This is the second loss and it put them four games behind the Blue Jays and four & a half games behind the Mariners.
This is not good. Not good at all.

Tonight has Sale on the mound but to be honest with you, that may not matter. The Red Sox have committed five errors during their last two games.

Five errors in two games is shitty baseball. That indicates they aren't playing fundamental baseball. They aren't catching the ball and they aren't throwing the ball. If they aren't doing that, they will not win games.

Again, I only watched four innings last night and I don't expect to make it through more than that tonight.

Back on June 25th, I said:
Well, it looks like Psycho Vlad can relax.

Too bad nine other people had to die so that Psycho Vlad could relax.

Not a good start

The Red Sox lost to the Astros last night while the Blue Jays and the Mariners both won. That means the Red Sox are now down four games in the wildcard race.

Paxton did not have his usual good night, going four innings and giving up seven runs, six of them earned.

What worries me is that Houck makes his return tonight and I can't help but be concerned about the quality of pitching he'll deliver. He was struck in the face on June 16th and that was the last time he pitched.

He'll take the mound tonight having not pitched in a game for more than nine weeks. I won't be surprised if he isn't also a little skittish about batted balls coming back at him. Let's face it, getting hit in the face might make you a bit jumpy.

I guess we'll have to learn what happened tomorrow morning because I only made it through four innings last night. I don't expect to make through any more than that tonight.

He just can't stop ranting and spewing, can he...

Yea, he was pretty bad

Umpire Scorecards posted their analysis of home plate umpire Junior Valentine from yesterday's Red Sox / Yankees game and like I said, he was awful.
If you look at the strike zone you will notice a green dot in what is almost the middle of the zone. That is a "strike three" that Valentine decided to a ball. It was so much a strike three that the hitter actually walked out of the batters box and took five or six steps to go back to his dugout. Once he realized the ump had called it a ball he had to do an awkward about-face to get back into the batter box.

And if you look at the pink blob in that same area, that is a representation of Valentine's unique strike zone.

You will also see that he was not consistent across the two teams. As a matter of fact, the analysis indicates that his strike/ball calling resulted in one run for the Yankees.

If the Red Sox had lost that game, they would have had every right to register a complaint with the league.

He was awful.

Anyways, this is todays wild card standings:
What the Red Sox need is for the Astros & the Yankees to keep on losing games and for the Mariners & the Blue Jays to start losing games. They particularly need the Astros to keep losing games because the Red Sox are about to start a four-game series against them.

They are very close to earning a playoff spot.

I'm disappointed. I was kinda looking forward to the "Donald Trump MAGA Jerk-Off and Bullshit Emporium Show that was going to be held today.

Guess I'll just have to get my entertainment from his social thingee:
He reminds of the bully from A Christmas Story, Scut Farkus.

All of my bushes have been trimmed. I can put that job away until next spring when I will have to cut them back again.

I'm going to see if I can watch at least five innings of baseball. If they are playing at a decent pace, maybe I'll be able to watch all nine innings.

Another win

Today was a bullpen day for the Red Sox with Winckowski as the opener. He made it through the first inning, giving up zero runs and striking out two. He was followed by Pivetta, who went five good innings, giving up two earned runs and striking out eight. Schreiber didn't do so well, going ⅔ of an inning giving up three earned runs. Bernardino came in to finish the seventh and Martin took over to start the eighth.

When Martin started the eighth inning, the score was tied 5-5 and the Judges managed to get a run home. The home plate umpire called the runner safe but it looked like he was out so the Red Sox challanged it. Turns out that the runner was indeed out at the plate and that ended the inning.

Then, in the ninth, the Red Sox managed to move the baserunners enough to score a run, making the score 6-5 in the middle of the ninth and the Judges coming up for their last at bats.

The Red Sox brought in their closer, Jansen, and despite some stumbles with the first two batters, he managed to sit down the last three with no problem. This gave the Red Sox the win and sweep of the Yankees.

The Red Sox now head to Houston where tomorrow they start a four-game series against the Astros. First pitch is at 8:00pm

Oh, and the home plate umpire of today's game, Junior Valentine, had the worst strike zone of any umpire I think I've ever seen. I can't wait to see his umpire scorecard.

In other baseball news, the Blue Jays and the Mariners both won their games so the Red Sox remain three games out of the wildcard.

This morning, we managed to cut two very large limbs off an oak tree in our backyard and then, since we were already sweaty and covered in sawdust, we decided to trim back all the damned bushes along our side yard.

Tomorrow (or maybe Tuesday), we'll trim the line of bushes along our backyard and that should take care of that crap for the year.

We also have a butt-load of flowering trees called Rose of Sharon that produce an incredible amount of seeds. And when I say an incredible amount, I'm talking thousands, if not millions, of seeds.

Sometime this coming September, after they have finished flowering, I will spend an entire day on a ladder, trimming back the branches that contain seed pods, which is all the branches...

Trust me, those trees are like weeds and their seeds all germinate regardless of where they fall. They grow in dirt, they grow in grass and they grow in mulch. Hell, I've pulled them out of asphalt. I gotta get them off the tress before the pods dry, split open and the seeds all fall like rain in a thunderstorm.

I have to figure out what to watch for entertainment this evening.

BillE was right...

...the Yankees suck.

The Red Sox beat the New York Aaron Judges 8-3 last night. I listened to the game on the radio while tracking the play on MLB.COM gameday. It wasn't fun but it got me my baseball fix.

The Red Sox beat the New York Aaron Judges 8-1 this afternoon and I was able to watch the entire game on NESN.

The Blue Jays are no longer in the wildcard because the Mariners have overtaken them by half a game. With their win this afternoon, the Red Sox are now two and a half games behind the Mariners.
I'm hoping the Blue Jays and the Mariners lose tonight because that will put the Red Sox only two games out of the wildcard.

As for the Yankees, I have no idea why they are playing so badly but I do know that during this offseason, I won't be surprised to see Boone and Cashman moving on to new jobs. That team is built around Judge and Stanton. Stanton sucks and Judge has become a china doll.

And in case you think I'm making things up when I say that the MLB treats Aaron Judge like he's the only baseball player on the planet, this was the headline story on the front page of MLB.COM after the Yankees lost 8-1 to the Red Sox:

Luis Urias, whose team won, hit a grand slam but they don't put that on the front page. Instead they put Judge, whose team lost, on the front page...

Attention everyone everywhere:

It is with great sadness that I inform you that Donald Yes, I chose this hairstyle Trump will no longer be holding a press conference this coming Monday. He made the following statement which, as usual for him, was riddled with grammer irregularities and an overwhelming use of capital letters:
Rather than releasing the Report on the Rigged & Stolen Georgia 2020 Presidential Election on Monday, my lawyers would prefer putting this, I believe, Irrefutable & Overwhelming evidence of Election Fraud & Irregularities in formal Legal Filings. Therefore, the News Conference is no longer necessary!
I gotta tell you, I was looking forward to that press conference. I'm betting it would have been better than any skit ever produced by Saturday Night Live.

Also, I wonder if he would have held this news conference in the back parking lot of Four Seasons Total Landscaping / Fantasy Island Sex Shop?

I gotta go grill up some barbeque chicken.

Another loss

The Red Sox lost again last night when the Nationals beat them 10-7.

Sale did not have a great outing, going 4⅓ innings and giving up three runs, two of them earned.

Tonight they are in New York to start a three-game series against the New York Aaron Judges. Unfortunately, I won't be watching it because once again, they are streaming the game on Apple TV+.

Bello has the mound and first pitch is at 7:10pm.

I'm hoping for a win. Hell, I'm hoping they take all three from the Judges.

I'm also hoping the Reds beat the crap out of the Blue Jays over the next few days.

Spectrum sent me a letter today saying they were lowering the price of my bundled service by $1.00.

They are also taking away Science, Golf, MLB and NFL channels but hey, it's a dollar cheaper!

I'm getting ready to drop cable all together and go back to broadcast television.

A loss with no loss

The Nationals broke a tie in the eighth inning to go up 6-2 last night and that was how the game ended. Fortunately, the Blue Jays also lost so the Red Sox are still only three games behind them in the wildcard:

It would have been nice if the Red Sox won that game because they would be only two games behind but at least they aren't four games behind.

The New York Aaron Judges also lost so they are still three and a half games behind the Red Sox.

I asked my buddy BillE, who is a major Yankees fan, what the hell is wrong with the them and his answer was, "The Yankees suck."

I told him he sounds like a Red Sox fan.

In case you were wondering if there are people who will kill for Trump, I can assure you there are.

These are people that attacked & invaded the U.S. Capital building and these are people who threaten jurors with death: If we are now living in a country where jurors can be threatened with execution by a mob of scumbags, maybe we need to start finding these people and charging them with high crimes.

And I'm not talking about simple crimes like fraud or assault. I'm talking about terrorism, treason, attmepted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, etc...

Let me say this out loud for anyone who needs to hear it:
  • TRUMP LOST. HE IS NO LONGER PRESIDENT.

  • HE ATTEMPTED TO OVERTURN THE LEGITIMATE RESULTS OF AN ELECTION.

  • HE HAS ADVOCATED FOR THE SEXUAL ASSAULT OF WOMEN.

  • HE HAS ADVOCATED THAT WE INGEST A DEADLY CLEANING AGENT TO OVERCOME A VIRUS.

  • HE HAS INSISTED THAT MEMBERS OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SWEAR ALLEGIANCE AND LOYALTY TO HIM INSTEAD OF TO THE CONSTITUTION.

  • HE HAS ADVOCATED FOR THE SUSPENSION OF THE CONSTITUTION.

  • HE ALTERED A NOAA HURRICANE PREDICTION MAP WITH A SHARPIE SO IT SHOWED THAT HIS PREDICTION WAS CORRECT.

  • HE STARED DIRECTLY INTO THE SUN DURING A SOLAR ECLIPSE.

  • HE INVITED A COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL TEAM TO THE WHITE HOUSE AND SERVED THEM BIG MACS.

  • HE ACCEPTED THE LIES OF PSYCHO VLAD OVER THE FACTS RELEASED BY HIS OWN INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY.

  • HE SENT THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE TO HIS FOLLOWERS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT: "covfefe".

  • HE SALUTED A NORTH KOREAN GENERAL, A NATION WE ARE STILL TECHNICALLY AT WAR WITH.

  • HE ADVOCATED USING NUCLEAR WEAPONS ON HURRICANES.

In other words, you are worshipping a nutcase who is not a nice guy. As a matter of fact, I would call him a bad guy. If one of my children came home with a friend who behaved like Trump, I would forbid that child from hanging out with that "friend".

Sorry about the rant. I'll stop now.

It's the ninth inning with the Red Sox trailing 10-7.

I suck at math

Yesterday I said, "That means the Red Sox are now a game and a half ahead of the Judges in the wildcard race."

Well, that was highly inaccurate because they were actually two and a half games ahead of the Judges in the wildcard race.

Last night, the Red Sox beat the Nationals and the Braves beat the Judges. That means the Red Sox are now three and a half games ahead of the Judges.

They are still three games behind the Blue Jays in the wildcard but that is absolutely going to change over the rest of August. With the exception of a three game series against the Orioles, the Blue Jays have a fairly easy schedule.

I'm concerned that during the remainder of the month, the Red Sox, with their difficult schedule, will have some struggles while the Blue Jays will win the majority of their games and widen the gap.

It all boils down to the fact there are only 43 games left in their season and those are going to be hard-fought games. Now that injured players are beginning to return, my hopes are high that the Red Sox have what it takes to get into a position to play baseball in October.

Remember my rant yesterday about the violent scumbags in our society? Well this is the kind of shit I'm talking about.

How is the asshole who refused to drop his gun still alive? How is it that they didn't just shoot him when he refused?

This is why I never became a cop because if I came up against someone with a gun in his hand and I said drop it, he better drop it right f'n now. Five seconds later or a twitch of his arm to raise the gun and I'm emptying my entire magazine into him.

The gun is not the problem. It's the waste of oxygen that's holding it that is the problem.

Time to make some dinner and then watch some baseball.

Yes, there is baseball tonight

The Red Sox will take on the Nationals this evening at 7:10pm.

Pivetta has the start and I'm really hoping he does as well as he did when he was a reliever who could go four or five innings.

The guy can certainly pitch and having him back in the starting rotation would be great for the Red Sox.

In other baseball news:

That means the Red Sox are now a game and a half ahead of the Judges in the wildcard race. They are still three games behind the Blue Jays but I have a feeling they might make up some ground over the next few days.

This is not gun violence. It is plain old fashioned evil human violence and until our society recognizes that fact, it will continue.

Near as I can tell, the term "gun violence" has become a way for us, as a society, to remove blame from the humans that commit these God-awful acts and place it instead on the tools used by those scumbags. Trust me, take the gun away and they'll use a knife, a bomb or their motor vehicle because if killing is what they want to do, they'll find a way to do it.

Calling it "gun violence" is our way of saying, "It wasn't me! It was the gun!"

Stop blaming guns and start blaming people. And you can start with the politicians that hamstring the police by restricting what they can and cannot do, create rules that allow criminals to be criminals with no fear of punishment and impose draconian rules on those that follow the laws but provide ample means for criminals to be be forgiven for their crimes.

I blame the politicians, our elected officials, who jumped on whatever societal-altering bandwagon happened to be popular when they were running for office and changed the rules. That's what is driving this wave of violence.

Another try

Spectrum was at my house again today because last night, my phone and internet went out.

Again.

This time the tech decided to replace all of my equipment.

Actually, what he said was, "Oh boy, this is old. I haven't seen one of these in several years. You need new stuff."

So now I have two new cable boxes and new modems. Well, actually, I now only have one modem. The new internet modem has the phone modem built into it so I got to eliminate the seperate phone modem.

Hopefully this is the end of my internet / phone issues but I won't be sure until at least a month has gone by.

The Red Sox won yesterdays game, beating the Tigers 6-3. I'd like to say it was a good game but since I didn't get to watch it, I wouldn't know if it was good or bad.

What I do know is that the Aaron Judges lost yesterday and are now two full games behind the Red Sox. Since the Blue Jays won, the Red Sox remain three games behind them in the wildcard.

No game tonight while they travel to our nations capital where tomorrow they will start a three-game series against the Nationals.

Once they finish in Washington, the remainder of the month of August is going to be a tough month for them. They play the Judges, the Dodgers and the Astros, all of which are good teams. If the Red Sox can consitently play well, they stand a good chance of grabbing a wildcard slot before September. That would be good because September looks even more difficult with games against the Orioles, the Judges, the Rays and Blue Jays.

Pat and Willie played golf without me today because my back is not in a good place. When I told them I wasn't playing, they both decided that was okay because it gave them an opportunity to make fun of me.

My reply back to them was:
    You two are funny guys.

Remember, don’t let that pond on the first hole bother you at all.
    Don’t even think about.
    Pretend it’s not there...
I'm wondering if they cleared the pond or had to drop a new ball on the other side...

Neighborhood party yesterday

We ran our errands yesterday morning, then The Professor had to go to work for an open house for prospective students while I spent time trying to hone my welding skills (I still suck but I didn't burn the house down). When she got home we to a party at our neighbors house and we spent the rest of the day chit-chatting about all kinds of stuff, eating some good food and generally having an enjoyable time.

We didn't do any of that today. Today was spent staying out of the humidity and watching golf instead of baseball.

Today's Red Sox game was streamed on Peacock which really should be called "NBC for people that have money to waste".

I really hate what MLB and the Red Sox are doing with streaming services. I already have three streaming services at $10 or $15 dollars for each service every month and I refuse to add another. As a matter of fact, I'm planning on dropping one of them soon.

I guess that means I'll be watching fewer and fewer MLB games because they sure seem to be streaming those games more and more each season. And it's never on the same service. So far they've streamed on ESPN+, YouTube Premium, Apple TV+ and now Peacock.

If I had to subscribe to all of those services, it would cost me $50 a month just to watch baseball.

Screw that. I've already got a $200 cable bill that let's me watch NESN, the official network of Red Sox baseball.

Since there was no MLB for me to watch, I spent some time watching the AIG Womens Open.

Man, those ladies can play golf. I watch Charlie Hull hit a golf ball out of what looked like a wheat field onto the green about 5 feet from the hole. If I had tried to do that, 1) my back what have probably shattered and 2), the ball would have either stayed where it was or took off like a rocket, about two feet off the ground, across the green and onto the next fairway.

Hull didn't win. She came in second to Lilia Vu who just seems like she loves playing golf. She always has a smile on her face.

After ladies golf, I put on the Worcester Red Sox because baseball is baseball and I'm just as happy watching AAA as I am watching MLB.

Maybe I'll look into seasons tickets to the Worcester Red Sox. I'd rather go see the minor leaguers play than give any more money to John Henry. I get the impression that he doesn't care about the Red Sox. He's more concerned about his soccer teams and his car racing teams.

Now I'm watching the PGA FedEx Championship. The men are good but ever since all the happy-go-lucky guys left for the LIV tour, the men are kinda like robots. None of them seem to be having a good time.

I'm going to enjoy some teryaki steak tips and then watch some more golf.

Busy day

I had many things to do today so there was almost no time for internetting.

I will say that the Red Sox won last night and with that win, they were three games behind the Blue Jays.

Todays game started at 4:10 but I'm not able to pay attention to it.

Hopefully the Red Sox win and the Blue Jays lose. It would also be nice to see the Mariners lose because they are half a game ahead of the Red Sox in the wildcard.

Tomorrow will be more informative.

At least I hope tomorrow will be more informative.

A win and a loss

Last night, the Red Sox defeated the Royals 2-0 and the Patriots lost to the Texans 20-9.

The Red Sox are now a full game ahead of the Aaron Judges and only four games behind the Blue Jays in the wild card race.

The Tigers are in town for a three-game series starting tonight and the starting pitcher is Sale.

Sale hasn't been on the mound since early June so I have no idea how he's going to do but my hopes are high that he goes at least four, maybe five innings. I heard a small sound bite from Cora that he is probably only going to go four innings which is fine, I guess.

I figure any break he can give the overtaxed bullpen is a good thing.

As for the Patriots, what can I say, it's preseason.

Jones did not play at all. Zappe, McSorley & Cunningham were the quarterbacks and while I thought Zappe did okay, Cunningham stole the show.

The problem I saw was the offensive line. They didn't do the best job protecting the quarterback and I'm pretty sure that was a problem last season as well.

Their next game game is in Wisconsin where they will play the Packers on Saturday, the 19th. Kick off is at 8:00pm which is good because the 1:00pm Red Sox / Yankees game will be over well before then.

It's also good because football games have four rigidly timed quarters of 20 minutes each and a 10 minute half. That is a total of 90 minutes. Add in the few minutes between each snap and you might add another 20 minutes to the came. Add in another 10 minutes for television bullshit and you basically have a two hour game.

That means I will be able to go to bed at the decent hour of 10:00pm.

Tonights repast is pepperoni pizza. As a matter of fact, it's uber-supreme pepperoni pizza. Basically, it's a layer of dough, a layer of sauce, a layer of cheese and a couple of layers of pepperoni.

We really like pepperoni.

Good win last night

The Red Sox held on to beat the Royals last night with a score of 4-3.

Pivetta got the start and went five innings, giving up two earned runs and striking out eight.

Oh, and the Aaron Judge's lost to the White Sox so the Red Sox are now once more half a game ahead of them in the ALEast. The Red Sox are still five games out of the wildcard race but the way I look at it, if they aren't in the wildcard at least they're ahead of the Judges.

Tonight's game is the final game in their four-game series. Paxton will take the mound with first pitch at 7:10.

Yes, I will be paying attention to both The Red Sox game and the Patriots preseason game, which is also at 7:00. Despite my advanced age, I can still multitask

Speaking of my advanced age, it turns out golf might have been a bad idea yesterday.

My back feels like someone whacked my spine with a ball peen hammer.

Thank goodness we stocked up on ibuprofen a little while ago.

It's another leftover dinner night tonight.

While I overdose on sports and ibuprofen, you can check these out:

They got their ass kicked

The Red Sox lost to the Royals 9-3 last night and they deserved to lose.

They did not play well at all.

I played golf today and trust me, that takes a lot out of me.

I'm going to take three ibuprofen and fall asleep as early as possible/

While I do that, you can check these out:

A win is a win

Even if that win was the result of a very bad call by an umpire.

In the ninth inning, with the score tied 2-2, the Red Sox managed to get runners on first and second. There were two outs and Urias had a 3-2 count when he swung at a pitch. The first based umpire ruled it a check swing, resulting in ball four and loading the bases instead of what it really was which was a swing and miss for strike three and the third out.

So with the bases loaded, Reyes steps up and crushes the second pitch he sees for a game winning grand slam to win the game 6-2.

Like I said, a win is a win even if it was a gift from the umpire.

Tonight's game is at 7:10 and I will be watching.

I missed this new law change last November and now that I know about it, I gotta admit, I'm kind of amazed at how dumb this actually sounds.

We are now required, by law, to put all of our old clothes and shoes into those donation boxes for recycling.

It doesn't matter what shape they are in or if they are even still wearable, we are required to donate them.

I can't help but wonder what the church in the center of town is going to do with my old t-shirts with the pit stains and holes in them but I guess the law is the law and I have to abide by it.

Or not...

...because it's the dumbest thing I've ever heard!

This ranks right up there with the extra-stupid, bipolar laws that say, "You must give cyclists 4 feet of space when passing" law and the "You cannot cross over the double yellow line in the center of the road" law.

Oh, and get ready for the price of sausage and bacon to skyrocket...

I need to move out of this state.

The Professor has made her famous chicken and broccoli puff pastry dish for dinner so I'm going to be busy eating as much that as possible.

I will also be watching baseball.

Let's see what tonight brings

The Royals are in Boston to play the Red Sox and if the Red Sox lose any of these games against the Royals, I will be very, very disappointed.

The Royals are the second-to-last team in the AL with a .319 record. The Red Sox should be able to win all four games of this series without any problem.

At least, that is what I'm hoping for...

About two or three months ago, I noticed that my cell phone suddenly started telling me it had a 5G connection while I was at home. That tells me that Verizon finally got around to installing 5G equipment on the cell tower that is about a half mile from my house.

Also about two or three months ago, I started experiencing service outages with my Spectrum internet and Spectrum phone service. Usually around 5:00 in the afternoon, my modems (both phone and internet) would suddenly reboot. Sometimes they did it only once, sometimes they did it twice. This wasn't every day, it was usually once a week or so.

On Saturday evening, both modems suddenly went into a reboot loop and it went on for quite a while. After a half hour of no internet, I decided to call Spectrum.

I got ahold of a pleasant young man named Alex who, despite being a New York Yankees fan, took a look at my modems and said, "Oh boy. Those modems are up and down constantly. The signal coming into them is really bad. I'm going to schedule a service visit." We chatted for a few more minutes about how bad both of our chosen baseball teams were and he told me to expect a visit on Sunday evening.

Yesterday, a very helpful young man named Brennan, who is a Red Sox fan, arrived at my house and started checking everything out. He started at the junction box on the outside of my house and said, "The signal looks great here. Let's take a look in the house."

We made our way to the basement where he tested the signal to the modem. His exact words were, "That sucks". Then he took one look at the amplifier and multiport cable hub the last Spectrum guy that visited my house had installed and he said, "I know exactly what is wrong. All of those open lines you have, along with this signal amplifier, are picking up the 5G cell signals and it's causing a lot of interference on the line."

Turns out that having an open cable line running to every room in my house created a giant antenna that is tuned nicely to receive the new 5G cell tower signals.

He removed the large multiport cable hub, installed a smaller multiport hub with just enough space for the actual cable equipment we have in the house (two television boxes, an internet modem and a telephone modem) and tested again. He said, "That is much better. I'm not seeing any signal drop at all."

So, if you live in my neck of the woods and have recently begun experiencing cable/phone/internet issues, it might just be because you have open cable lines that are picking up the latest fifth generation cell signals..

Oh, and yes, my internet speeds are still just fine:

Either the local news station I was watching this morning had a major typo or Goofy Joe is handing money out to people that don't deserve it:

I'm leaning towards it being a typo but I would not be surprised to learn that they are handing out money to people that don't deserve it.

Time to figure out what to do about dinner.
