A win and a loss.

The Red Sox managed to hold off the Braves last night and win the game.

Tolle pitched a pretty good game, facing 28 batters over 8 inings, giving up 2 earned runs, walking 1 and striking out 3

In the 8th inning, with 2 outs and the Braves up 2-1, Abreu smacked a line-drive double. Then, with 2 strikes against him, Contrares hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 3-2 in favor of the Red Sox.

In the 9th inning, with the Red Sox up 3-2, Chapman, in very uncharacteristic fashion, managed to let the Braves load the bases with 2 outs. A Braves batter smacked a sharp grounder right back at Chapman and it hit him in the leg, knocking him down. Chapman scrambled to his feet, chased the ball down and flipped it to first for the final out of the game but man, it was close.

Very close...

"Close" as in it wasn't really clear that the ball beat the runner and the Braves might actually have a successful challenge of the out call.

But they didn't challenge and the Red Sox walked away with the win.

Why the Braves did not challenge the final out of the game is beyond me. A challenge of a close base-running call on the final out is a no-brainer because they had nothing to lose.

As for today's game, first pitch was at 1:35 and Bello had the start.

He kinda sucked.

Like a lot.

The game ended with the Braves beating the Red Sox 8-1.

During the offseason, Breslow went out and got a bunch of pitchers even though the Red Sox needed hitters. I understand his thinking and the pitching (with the exception of Bello) has been great. The problem is great pitching doesn't score runs.

Pitchers do not step on home plate, hitters step on home plate and there is no one on the Red Sox that I look at and think to myself, "Oh good, so-and-so is up. He's gonna hit the ball".

I'm thinking they might have fired the wrong guy...

And so it goes...

I checked the prices because I have two cars that are below half a tank and a 5 gallon gas can that is empty.

I'm gonna have to take out a loan...

And another loss

It took them 10 innings to lose but lose they did. The Red Sox got beat 3-2 byt the Braves last night and I stayed up for the entire game.

It really looked like they had a chance but thanks to Carl Yastrzemski's grandson, Mike, the Braves pulled it off in the 10th inning.

The Red Sox have decided that Story has a bad groin so they put him on the IL for 10 days and called up Sogard.

I'm not entirely sure that is a bad thing because Story has been in a defensive slump for the last few weeks.

They are back at it again tonight with Tolle on the mound. First pitch was at 7:15. It is currently 1-0 Braves after 3 innings.

Our porch is semi-open.

By semi, I mean we have set up the large dining table and its chairs but have not taken out the side chairs and small tables. There is a load of pollen yet to come and it's a bitch to get off the exposed furniture. The dining table has a tablecloth that can be taken outside and shaken out.

No matter to me because I enjoy sitting at the big table with my laptop in front of me watching bad videos. I'm seriously considering getting a small television and hanging it on the wall so I can watch baseball out there.

Masslive has the Patriots winning 10 of their 17 games.

I disagree.

I have the patriots winning 12 of their 17 games.

Here are the MassLive predictions.

I think the Patriots will beat the Chief's and the Bronco's while MassLive has them losing. As a matter of fact, I think the Patriots, with their improved offensive line, will probably beat the Seahawks as well.

Then again, what the hell do I know.

If this keeps going the way it's going, I'm gonna have to start up my sprinklers...
I don't want to start up my sprinklers...

They lost...

Once again, the Red Sox batters were unable to step on home plate and the Phillies won 3-1 last night.

It's getting more and more frustrating but as is always the case, I will continue to watch them play baseball.

Tonight they are in Atlanta to start a 3-game series against the Braves.

Early has the start and first pitch is at 7:15

By the way, the Braves have the best record in all of MLB so my hopes are not high for the Red Sox...

They won!

The Red Sox managed to beat the Phillies 3-1 last night thanks to a 2-run home run by Rafaela.

Todays game is curently scheduled to start at 7:05 and as of 6:30, they have taken the tarp off the field.

Nothing of note happened today, which given the current state of our government is kinda weird.

I do think Dementia Donny is gonna be pissed when he finds out the Supreme Court ruled that the federal government could not stop abortion pills from being sent through the mail. But given that I'm pretty sure they could have sent that stuff through FedEX or UPS, I didn't understand what the big deal was about blocking it in the mail.

Also, Cuba says it has run out of oil and diesel so those people are kinda screwed. Without oil or diesel, they have no way to generate electricity. Without electricity, they have no hospitals, no refrigeration and no lights.

Welcome to the stone age...

Another loss

At some point during last night's game, my son and I had the following exchange:

Yes, they lost. The Phillies beat them 2-1.

The problem wasn't pitching, it was the whole hitting and running and stepping on home plate thing that was the problem.

They'll go at it again this evening. Gray has the start and first pitch is at 6:45pm. Let's hope the batters become runners who turn into scorers.

There will be baseball

The Phillies, with their interim manager, will play the Red Sox, with their interim manager, at 6:45 this evening.

Morán will be the opener and then Bellow will come in to hopefully go at least 5 innings.

I gotta be honest with you, the Phillies do not have a great record (19-22) but it's better than the Red Sox (17-23) so my hopes are not high that the Red Sox are going to win this series.

According to the weather dweebs, it's going to rain tomorrow, Thursday and Friday. When I looked at my lawn, I realized that if I didn't mow it today, I would probably regret it come Saturday.

So I mowed my lawn.

The Red Sox did not lose today

They didn't play baseball today so they did not lose today...

Gas prices have not changed in the last week. Don't get me wrong, they still suck but at least they did not go up.

On the upside, the DJIA is up and no one knows why...

We have begun the process of opening our back porch. This involved checking all the screen for damage and cleaning them.

This coming weekend we will uncover all the furniture, check it for damage and place it all in the strategic locations.

Once that is done, I will move my lazy but out there to surf the internets for news and funny stuff while watching the hummingbirds drink sugar water.

We like our porch.

My daughter is doing some work on her house repairing / replacing a section of subfloor in a bathroom. After cutting out the piece of flooring, she went into the basement to take a good look at what she was dealing with. While doing this, she was texting me about things that she was seeing that she wanted my opinion about.

She sent me this and it made me laugh so I figured I would share it with you:

Happy Mothers Day

I hope all you mothers out there had an enjoyable day.

The Red Sox managed to lose 4-1 to the Rays this afternoon and they are now back in last place in the ALEast.
I don't understand it. They should be hitting the ball and stepping on home plate more than any other team but they aren't.

They are off tomorrow and the Phillies will be in Boston on Tuesday to start a 3-game series.

Hopefully the Red Sox can win at least two of those games.

The mulch-a-palooza is done and all the various shovels, barrows, trailers and tractors are back in their respective places.

Now if I can get my back, hands and legs back into their respective places, I'll be all set.

No baseball today

The Red Sox and Rays decided they didn't want to play baseball in the rain and I don't blame them. When I told my son that they might not be playing today, his reply was:

The game has been rescheduled to July 17th.

That means I am spending my evening watching the SEC Softball Championship between Texas and Alabama.

Man, those girls play a wicked game of softball. Not at all like the way we played in the company league I used to play in. Not a single one of those girls has a beer in their hand...

The mulch-a-palooza was put on hold today because neither one of us wanted to spread mulch in the rain.

Will pick it back up tomorrow and hopefully finish it off.

I will say this - our front and side yards sure look really nice. All we have left to do is the backyard and we should have no problem finishing that off tomorrow

So much for the streak

The Red Sox started off okay last night and the game was tied 3-3 though 5 innings. Then, in the 6th inning, Bennett lost it and gave up a run so Tracy pulled him and put Weissert in. Weissert immediately gave up another run, giving the Rays a 5-3 lead.

In the end, the Red Sox lost 8-4 to the Rays.

They are back at it again tonight. Early has the start and first pitch is at 7:10.

The local AHL hockey team, the Springfield Thunderbirds, has made it to the Atlantic Division finals. They will start the best-of-5 series this Tuesday in Scranton, PA when they take on the Penguins.

If they make it through the divisionals, they will play the best-of-7 Eastern Conference finals.

Dementia Donny is very excited about the price of crude oil.

I buy gallons of refined gasoline.

A sweep is always good

The Red Sox beat the Tigers 4-0 last night, winning all 3 games in their series.

It was Gray's first game back after a brief stint on the IL and I thought he did pretty well. He only gave up 4 hits but a lot of his success can also be attributed to some stellar defense.

So with that sweep, they are now tied with the Blue Jays for last place in the ALEast and only 1 game behind the Orioles.

They are back at home in Boston where tonight they start a 4-game series against the Rays. If you look at the standings abaove, you will notice that the Rays have been playing some pretty damned good baseball. I hope the Red Sox can continue their winning streak.

The new guy, Bennett, who pitched on May 1st when we went to the game, has the start tonight. First pitch is at 7:10

We spent this morning and afternoon doing our annual mulch-a-palooza.
This is after we had finished for the day. It's about half the pile that we started with and I moved it all using my ancient wheelbarrow & a snow shovel.

This year is easier than the previous years. This year we only got 5 cubic yards of mulch instead of the usual 8 yards and a lot of it went under the line of trees we have on the side of our house.

We'll be back at it again tomorrow but that will involve the tractor and trailer because we will be spreading it in the back gardens.

Oh, and after we called it a day of mulching, I decided that since I alredy stunk and was dirty, I would mow my lawn.

It's amazing what fertilizer does to grass. I mowed it last Monday and I had to mow it again today because it had grown quite a bit.

I have to take some ibuprofen and then watch some baseball.

Good win

The Red Sox beat the Tigers 10-3 last night and there were some fireworks in the game.

The Tiger's pitcher seemed to get a little upset that the Red Sox were hitting home runs off him. I guess he wanted to let the Red Sox know he was unhappy and the best way he could do that was to hit Story in the back with a 94mph fast ball.

For those of you that have never been hit by a baseball, I can tell you it hurts. A lot. And the few times I got hit, it was thrown by some kid who was probably topping out at about 60mph. I can't imagine what 94mph feels like.

So anyways, that resulted in both teams running out onto the field to hold an in-depth discussion about the incident. Fortunately, that was about as far as it got. No fists were thrown and both teams managed to get back into their dugouts without anything more than some bad words being exchanged.

The umpires decided that the pitcher was a bad boy so they ejected him from the game. This afternoon, MLB decided he needed a bit of punishment so they suspended him for six games and fined him some unknown amount.

They are back it again this evening. First pitch was at 6:40pm and it is currently 0-0 in the 2nd inning. I'm assuming all the players will remain in their dugouts when they are not actually playing.

There was golf today

We played our usual 9 holes of golf this afternoon and it was, as always, a good time.

We aren't good at it and we'll never be invited to play professionally but we laugh a lot and solve all of the worlds problems.

After golf I had some things to get done so that explains why this is both late and short.

Abnormally dry?

I'm going to call bullshit on this
The ponds and rivers in my area are all pretty high. The small streams and creeks we have around here are also all running strong. The grasses are green and thick, the trees and bushes are all in full bloom and it rains at least 3 times a week.

How the hell can we be "abnormally dry"? What is considered normal?

Dementia Donny's war is still going strong.

I'm thinking of writing a children's book. I'm gonna call it The Very Stable Genius and His Big Beautiful Better Than Anyone Else's War.

Gas prices continue to go up:
Pretty soon no one will be able to afford to go anywhere and all those businesses that demanded people "return to the office" are going to find themselves short-staffed.

Oh, and it was announced yesterday that the United States National Debt has exceeded the United States Gross Domestic Product. For those of you that don't understand what that means, trust me, it's bad. It means that the US income is less that its debt.

He's killing the economy faster than any other president in history. Even the DJIA isn't sure what to make of his policies:

Bad things

The Red Sox lost last night, getting beat 6-3 by the Astros.

Early did not have a good outing but then again, the batters did not have a good outing either.

This afternoon's game was no better but it took them 10 innings to lose instead of just the usual 9 innings.

The Astros beat them 3-1 in the 10th, winning the series and sending the Red Sox back into last place in the American League.
Suarez was pitching very well but when he finished the 4th inning, he left the game with some kind of hamstring issue.

It's getting harder and harder to watch them play baseball simply because there seems to be no reason for them to play as bad as they are. I will, of course, continue to watch them, I'll just yell louder and use many more very bad words.

Tomorrow they start a 3-game series in Detroit against the Tigers. First pitch is at 6:40 and Tolle is scheduled to start.

Nice win

Yesterday my son, his wife, my wife and myself all took our granddaughter to her very first Red Sox game.

The Red Sox gave her a nice little pin:
along with a small bag of dirt from the outfield and a bracelet proclaiming that she was a member of Red Sox Nation.

It was a good game to go to simply because it was a nice night and the Red Sox played some damned good baseball, beating the Astros 3-1.

My son had gotten a set of hearing protectors for his daughter (you can see one of them in the above picture) so she did not have to deal with the loudness of the park. As a matter of fact, she slept through a lot of the game. But when she was awake, she was fascinated by everything that was going on.

On our way to the game, we spotted a plane that was towing a sign. This is the sign:

Imagine being so upset about a game that you would be willing to spend hundreds or maybe thousands of dollars to tell the owner to do something that the owner will never do.

Some people have too much money...

As for today, things don't look as good for them. It is currently the 4th inning and the score is 5-0 in favor of the Astros.

While we were gone, The Very Stable Genius did not do anything stupi...

Wait.

Never mind.

Trump has announced that he is pulling 5,000 US troops out of Germany. This immediately sent the Europeans into a tizzy and Psycho Vlad into a happy dance.

Those troops have pretty much been the only thing keeping the Russians from mounting a takeover of most of eastern Europe.

While were were in Boston, the Bruins decided it was time to go on vacation.

They lost the game to the Sabres 4-1, which means they lost the series 4-2.

As we are always known to say in Massachusetts when we are talking about our sportings teams, "Oh well, we'll get 'em next year!"

Well, it happened. Gasoline has crossed the $4.00 threshold.

Fortunately for me and my wallet, my current automobile gets slightly more than 32 miles per gallon.

Oops, I forgot

Last night, I managed to type a whole bunch of stuff and find some links. Then proceeded to forget to click the "Publish" button.

Oh well.

Here's all the stuff I typed along with those links.

In a "must win" game, the Bruins barely managed to stay alive in the playoffs by beating the Sabres 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday night.

The Sabres took a first period 1-0 lead but the Bruins tied it 1-1 in the second period. Neither team could get the puck in the net during the third period so the game went to sudden death overtime.

Fortunately, the Bruins put one into the net and walked away with a win. This means they will meet again for game 6 on Friday, May 1st.

Here is the current Stanley Cup playoff situation:

The Red Sox, however, appeared to have had enough of winning and they decided to once again not step on home plate.

The Blue Jays beat them 3-0 Tuesday night, giving the new coaching staff their very first MLB loss.

They played their final game in their series yesterday afternoon and got their ass kicked 8-1.

Despite those two losses, they somehow managed to stay out of last place in the AL.

They are heading back to Boston where starting Friday they will play a 3-game home stand against the Astros.

There are no sports today so I'm gonna burn through some dvr's.

Chuck and his girlfriend are here

I have no idea why Dementia Donny and Chuck are getting together to talk about anything. Chuck has no say in the running of the British government and The Very Stable Genius has made it clear he is pissed off at the British (and the French, the Dutch, the Germans, etc...) because they don't do what he wants them to do.

I wonder if Trump will create an international incident by insulting Chuck's ears or his wife's horse face...

I'm not trying to be insulting. I'm just pointing out that Chuck's ears are big and his current wife is nowhere near as attractive as his first wife.

I got this message today:
This is the second time I've been accused of not paying an imaginary fine only this time they included a convienient QR code that will help me pay my imaginary fine.

I blocked the code so you can't actually scan it but if you could you would find yourself at a website called "woxersaver" os some such bullshit.

Here's my friendly advice: If you get one of these things, just delete it. Don't scan it, don't visit the website and don't forward it to your friends.

Just delete it.

Many things to cover

So, yesterday was an interesting day and there are several things to cover:
  1. The Boston Red Sox fired most of their coaching staff.
  2. Someone took a run at assassinating Dementia Donny.
  3. The Massachusetts Republicans met in Worcester to pick a candidate.
  4. We had our first hummingbird and our first dandelion of the season.
With that in mind, let's get to it.

The Boston Red Sox are, to us fans, a baseball team but in reality, they are one of the many divisions of the Fenway Sports Group. As a matter of fact, when the Red Sox announced that Theo Epstein was rejoining the Fenway Sports Group, they called the Red Sox the "baseball division".

Fenway Sports Group has several divisions. There is the motor racing division (Roush Racing), the hockey division (Pittsburgh Penguins), the golf division (Boston Common Golf), the soccer division (Liverpool Football Club), the television division (New England Sports Network) and the marketing division (Fenway Sports Marketing).

In other words, baseball is just one of the many things John Henry and his minions are involved with and as far as they are concerned, winning isn't the main thing for a sports team. Making money for Henry is the main thing for a sports team. As long as the baseball division makes him money, he is happy.

As a result of that attitude, he has throttled back the budget allocated to the baseball division and as such, they have managed to lose existing high-end players in free agency and they have failed to hire high-end players who were free agents from other teams.

Well, yesterday John Henry decided that the problem with the Red Sox isn't his tightwad approach to player salaries, it was the manager's fault. More specifically, there is some speculation in the media that an argument between Cora and Breslow occurred at some point over the status of one Pete Fatse, the Red Sox hitting coach. Rumor has it that Breslow wanted Fatse gone and Cora said no. This resulted in a face off that ended in not only Fatse being fired but Cora and everyone loyal to him being shown the door.

I have no idea if that speculation is true but I do know the result and I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. I've been ranting about the fact they can't hit and it was time to get rid of Fatse so I'm kinda glad about that but I guess I didn't expect the rest of the staff to get tossed as well.

If I ever had the chance to ask Breslow one question it would be, "Of all the potential and available baseball managers, who is better than Cora?" Nothing against Chad Tracy but I'm pretty sure he isn't a better manager than Cora.

As for the team itself, they played game 3 of their 3-game series against the Orioles. First pitch was at 1:35 this afternoon and Early had the start.

Early faced 24 batters over 6⅔ innings. He gave up two runs while walking 1 and striking out 4.

In the end, the Red Sox won the game 5-3, winning the series and staying out of last place in the AL.

For the first time in either of his terms as President, Dementia Donny decided he was going to attend the WHite House Correspondents Dinner. He probably should have stayed home because as soon as everyone got seated and the speechifying started up, some nutcase with guns and knives decided to make a run at the place.

He made it as far as a lobby on the wrong floor before being taken down by the Secret Service. Apparently one of the agents was shot by the aforementioned nutcase but fortunately he was wearing his vest and will survive with some nasty bruising and maybe some cracked ribs.

As I have often said to my friends and relatives in the world of law enforcement, "Keep your head on a swivel, watch each others backs and for cripes sake, wear your damned vest".

Oh, and this is at least the third time someone has made a run at Trump. I know he thinks everyone loves him so I wonder if he is worried about these ongoing attacks. Or does he believe that it isn't possible that anyone could actually hate him for what he is.

The Massachusetts Republicans, a group of people who honestly believe they stand a chance of winning in the political environment known as "liberal-land", met in Worcester and they picked a bald white guy as their candidate for Governor.

I really don't care who he is. What I will do is vote for him as long as he makes some effort to end the insane state agenda of charging us a lot of money for gas and electricity in the hopes we'll all jump on some ultra-expensive solar bandwagon.

Exciting news here at our world headquarters - The hummingbirds have returned.

At 10:00 this morning, I happened to look out back at the hummingbird feeders and saw a little blur that settled into a red-throated hummingbird.

At 1:00 this afternoon, my wife announced that she saw a dandelion in the back yard. I got my handy-dandy-dandylion stabber out of the shed and stabbed five dandelions out of my back yard.

What this all really means is that summer is fast approaching and I should clean my air conditioners so they are ready to go in the windows before it gets to be 90° with 90% humidity...

And no, I didn't forget the Bruins.

They got their ass kicked 6-1 by the Sabres and are going back to Buffalo down 3-1 in the best-of-seven series.

Yet another of my sporting teams that are in full suck mode...

Breaking news

They can't but they can

Last night, they couldn't pitch and they certainly couldn't hit.

I don't want to say that Bello sucked but I will say, "Bello was really [insert very bad word] awful! He gave up three home runs in the first inning. Then he gave up two more home runs in the third and fourth innings."

At one point, Cora went out to the mound and I thought maybe he was going to pull Bello. I was wrong. He didn't walk out to the mound to take Bello out of the game, he apparently just wanted to chit-chat. A few minutes after that, my son and I had the following text exchange:
My son is a funny guy.

With last night's 10-3 loss to the Orioles, they were once again tied for last place in the American League:

Today's baseball game was supposed to be played at 4:05 but the weather in Baltimore was predicted to be pretty bad so they decided to move the start time to 12:05.

Crochet had the start and he was, to use an old phrase, lights out good. He faced 22 batters over 6 innings, giving up 3 hits, walking 2 and striking out 7 while allowing 0 runs.

But the big change in the Red Sox was the offense. The batters hit the ball and got on base. More importantly, they drove in runs.

Lots of runs.

When the game ended, the score was 17-1 in favor of the Red Sox and they moved up in the standings to second-to-last place. If the Royals win tonight, the Red Sox will again be tied for last place but it will be a three-way tie.

The funny thing about math is that it is what it is. It is not something that is based on a particular time or a certain place and it certainly isn't opinion.

Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division work the same for all of us no matter where we are or who we are and it has been that way since the the first proto-human realized that if he had one bug and he caught another bug, he would have two bugs.

Yes sir, the one thing we can all rely on is that no matter what the situation, 2+2=4, 6-3=3, 10*10=100 and 32÷4=8.

Those formulas, along with every other math formula, are the same for all of us.

I think we can all agree that if someone says 2+2=5, they are either be a moron or a lying sack of shit.

I'm just going to put this out there and let you decide if Dementia Donny and Brainworm Bobby are morons or lying sacks of shit:
And that is not some fake, made-up meme, the guy actually said that. Out loud. In front of people. While under oath.

If you really want to go on a rollercoaster ride, you should read Bobby's Wikipedia page. It's a riot.

The last line in the paragraph highlighting his efforts to have the Indian Point nuclear power plant shut down is:
In 2022, after the plant's closure, carbon emissions from electricity generation in New York state increased by 37%, compared to 2019, before the start of the closure.

In closing, let me remind you that these people are running our government...

Another bad day.

Last night, the city of Boston smelled like losers. Both the Bruins and the Red Sox managed to fail in their quest to win their respective sporting events.

It was hard to watch...

The Red Sox are in Baltimore to start a 3-game series against the Orioles. Bello has the start and first pitch is at 7:05pm.

The Bruins are off until Sunday.

We attended a wake for a young man this afternoon. I didn't know him but I know his sister and she spent a large portion of her life taking care of him.

He needed constant care and she provided it like he was her son even though he was her older brother.

In other words, this hits her like a mother losing a child and I feel bad for her.

Anther one bites the dust

I gotta be honest with you, I personally think that Hairball Pete firing the Secretary of the Navy is not a bad thing. It's not a good thing but it's also not a bad thing.

John Phelan was appointed to be the Secretary of the Navy by Dementia Donny despite him having no military experience whatsoever.

The guy spent a year or so fellating The Very Stable Genius and that was enough for Trump put him in charge of the most powerful navy on the planet.

Then again, he nominated an idiotic "bro" news reporter as the Secretary of Defense and a guy with a worm in his brain as the Secretary of Health and Human Services so I guess it shouldn't have surprised anyone he put a guy with no military experience in one of the highest positions in the military.

But anyways, Headshot Hegseth has decided that he only wants people who do exactly what he says without question so he fired the guy. I'm sure this action doesn't have any impact on the navy while it is trying to fight a war in the middle east...

Oh, and for the record, some guy name Hung Cao, who actually served 30 years in the U.S. Navy and retired as a captain, will take over as Acting Secretary of the Navy. To be honest with you, he seems way more qualified for that job than the fired guy

For those of you interested, here is the current list of people fired by Dementia Donny during this term:
Secretary of the Navy John Phelan
Army Chief of Staff Randy George
    Attorney General Pam Bondi
    Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer
    Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem

The list of people he fired or who resigned during his first term is really long and I don't feel like formatting it for this post. Here are some of the more notable folks from that time period:
    Secretary of Energy Rick Perry
    National Security Advisor John Bolton
    Attorney General Jeff Sessions
Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Hailey
White House Chief of Staff John Kelly
    Secretary of Defense James Mattis

It's beginning to look like his third wife might have pissed him off a bit when she denied she had anything to do with Epstein even though no one at anytime said she did.

He'll probably fire her soon and somehow or another talk his daughter into moving in with him.

In baseball news, the Red Sox still suck.

The only thing that can be said good about them is they are not the Mets, the Phillies or the Royals...

They play the third game in their 3-game series against the Yankees this evening. First pitch is at 6:10.

As I told my son this afternoon, I probably won't be watching much of the Red Sox since the Bruins and Sabres will play game 3 tonight.

Puck drops at 7:00 and I'm really hoping the Bruins win the next two games at home. Going back to Buffalo with a 3-1 lead in the series would be great.

A win and a loss

The Red Sox can 't score a [insert really bad word here] run to save their lives. They got shutout 4-0 by the Yankees last night.

Early gave them a decent outing, facing 23 batters over 5⅓ innings. He gave up 3 earned runs, 3 walks and struck out 4 so not terrible.

They are back at it again tonight, weather permiting. First pitch is at 6:45 and my youngest will be at the game with his boss.

Hopefully they win.

The Bruins managed to hold off another Sabres third period rally and won 4-2 last night.

I have to admit to not watching a lot of the game because I got wrapped up in the Red Sox but from what I can see in the recap, they matched the Sabres in penalties and managed to score a power play goal.

The series is now tied at 1-1.

Here are the standings in round 1 as of this morning:

The Bruins and Sabres will play the next 2 games in Boston. Puck drops at 7:00 tomorrow evening

Time for an update on my newest grandchild:
She is growing like a baby should which means a constant stream of new clothing must be given to her.
Her father and I have declared her to be a Baby Genius and I suspect she will be doing complex math in the next month or so.
Seriously, she is doing great and her mom & dad are being great parents.

So as to not overlook the older grandchildren:
Our grandson, the oldest, is in kindergarten and doing great.
His sister, our middle grandchild, is in pre-school and doing great.

This has been your update on our grandchildren.

I am, as always, the proud grandpa.

Bad days and good days

Not only did the Red Sox lose yesterday, the Sabres figured out how to beat the Bruins and they did so in the third period.

The Red Sox lost 6-2 to the Tigers yesterday afternoon.

Crochet started out pitching well enough, going 4 innings with the game tied 1-1. Then, in the 5th inning, he gave up 4 runs and the Tigers took a 5-1 lead.

Te batters were hitting the ball but failed miserably at geting runs across the plate. They would have bases loaded with one out and hit into a double play.

It was extremely frustrating to watch.

Todays game was the traditional Patriots Day 11:10am start and the Red Sox managed to win the game 8-6. And when I say "managed", I mean they barely managed to win it.

It was 8-3 going into the 9th inning and they gave up 3 runs before finally getting the 3rd out. It got so bad that at one point I sent the following to my son:

As for the Bruins, they had a 1-0 lead through 2 periods. They went into the 2nd intermission and the Sabres must have had a hell of a meeting because they came back out and proceeded to score 4 goals, beating the Bruins 4-3 and taking game 1 of the series.

As for round 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs, this is where it stands:

The Bruins remain in Buffalo where game 2 will be played tomorrow. Puck drops at 7:30.

In other hockey news, the local AHL team, the Thunderbirds, have made the playoffs so if you live near me and you want to go see some pretty good hockey being played, you can seats on the glass for $33.00.

Front row tickets to the Calder Cup playoffs for only $33.00 is a pretty damned good deal.

We made a Costco run today because it was time to stock up on the needful things. Some of the needful things were motor oil, grass seed, steaks and coffee.

Thanks to The Very Stable Genius, all of those particular items are what I consider really [insert really bad word here] expensive.

Look, I'm old and I realize that I live in the past when a quart of oil was $0.89 and grass seed cost about $0.50 a pound but sweet jesus on a skateboard, that shit is expensive now. Way more expensive than it was just 2 years ago.

Fortunately, eggs are down to $2.50 a dozen...

Wet baseball

The Tigers / Red Sox game was scheduled for 1:35 today but the weather pushed them back to 4:35.

After checking the weather, it looks like they will play a few innings in the rain and cold which sucks for them. I can assure you that playing baseball on a cold, wet day is painful. The ball gets wet and it starts to get heavy. Yes, they change the ball when it gets wet but all it takes if a line drive into a wet outfield and that ball will pick up a lot of water.

They lost yesterday's game so a win today would be good.

As for the Stanley Cup, the Bruins @ Sabres best-of-seven series starts at 7:30 tonight so once the Red Sox are done, I'll be watching some hockey.

I have sportings to pay attention to so here are some links:
