A win and a win

The Bruins beat the Sabres 3-1 last night but in all honesty, if it wasn't for the Sabres goalie, the score would have been 10-1.

The puck spent more time heading towards the Sabres net than anything else. The Bruins took 31 shots on goal last night and a lot of the saves made by the Sabres goalie were kinda miraculous. Particularly in the first period when the Bruins took 17 of those 31 shots.

They are off today. Tomorrow they take on the Lightning. Puck drops at 1:00.

The Patriots managed to beat the Saints 25-19 this afternoon. I'm kind of surprised they won because at one point in this game, I said to myself, "I wonder how much the Saints paid the refs?"

There were some calls in the Saints favor that were clearly a non-violation.

On call was particularly bad to the point where the CBS commentators said it was a bad call. Maye passed the ball 50+ yards to Douglas who caught it and promptly ran it into the end zone for a touchdown. After the play was over, while the Patriots were celebrating in the end-zone, a flag was thrown and Diggs was called on pass interference for putting his hand onto the shoulder of a Saints defender BEFORE THE BALL WAS THROWN! Two guys who weren't even in the play or near the ball.

Two of the bad calls were overturned on challenges from Vrabel which kinda proves there were calls being made that were flat out wrong.

But all that aside, the Patriots are now 4-2 and as they are playing very, very well.

Next up for them will be the Titans.

With the Cubs 3-1 loss to the Brewers last night, the penant races are now set:

The ALCS starts tonight with the Mariners @ the Blue Jays. First pitch is at 8:00 and the series will be carried by FOX.

The NLCS starts tomorrow with the Dodgers @ the Brewers. That game will be at 8:00 and that series will be carried by TBS.

Go Brewers!

Long baseball game

It took the Mariners 15 innings to finish off the Tigers and move on to the ALCS.

For the record, 15 innings is a lot of innings. And no, I did not stay awake to watch them. I recall seeing the 7th but that's about it.

So now the ALCS series is set with the Mariners @ Blue Jays. The NLCS will be determined tonight with the final game of the Cubs / Brewers series.

Go Brewers!

Gotta be honest with you, this is a relief because when he left the game and did not come back, I thought for sure it was going to be a repeat of last season.

Looks like he will not be on the ice tonight and maybe Monday but he should be back soon.

Which leads me to remind everyone that the Sabres are in Boston for a game against the Bruins this evening. Puck drops at 7:00.

Bruins win

Man, that was a chippy game.

At one point there was a full-on brawl on the ice. It reminded me of the movie Slap Shot. Personally, I'm thinking the problem was the ref's consistent failure to see cheap shots being taken by the Blackhawks.

For instance, it was clear that Pastrnak had taken a stick to the face (high sticking) right in front of a linesman but there was no call. Pastrnak got pissed and slashed the Blackhawk player which resulted in an immediate call. It was things like that that were rasing the temperature on the ice.

So anyways, regulation play ended in a 3-3 tie and the Bruins won the game 4-3 in sudden-death overtime.

They are off tonight and tomorrow they take on the Sabres. Puck drops at 7:00.

In the baseball, world...

The Ohtani's beat the Phillies and won their best-of-five series, moving on to the NLCS.

The Cubs have come back, winning the last two games against the Brewers and that series is now tied 2-2. The final game in that series will be played tomorrow night.

Tonight is the final game of the ALDS when the Tigers take on the Mariners in Seattle. The winner of that game will move on to play the Blue Jays in the ALCS this Sunday.

Here's were things stand as of this morning:

Go Brewers!

Back on October 2nd, I alluded to my struggles to get a new camera installed on a raspbery pi. Trust me, it was really being a pain in the ass because there is nothing simple about dealing with a linux server.

Well, guess what? I got it working yesterday! And it's a beauty. It takes very nice pictures, shoots great video and it doesn't suck all the power out of the pi like the damned webcam did.

Next year, when the hummingbird feeders are up and the little hummers are back, I'll set this thing out and see what pics I can get.

Bruins win, Judges lose

Swayman had an excellent game last night, stopping 35 of 36 shots on goal. That's a save percentage of 97%.

On the ice, the Bruins managed 3 goals by shooting the puck at the net 21 times. I'm pleased to report that I did not yell "Shoot the puck" once last night.

It was a good opener for them and I really hope it is an indication of how they are going to play for the remainder of the season.

Tonight they have their home opener when they take on the Blackhawks. Puck drops at 7:00.

The Blue Jays sent the Judges on vacation last night, beating them 5-2 and winning the best-of-five series 3-1.

For what it's worth, I don't really care because I'm not a fan of either the Blue Jays or the Yankees.

Here is where things stood as of this morning:

The Phillies / Ohtani's game is at 6:00 this afternoon and the Brewers / Cubs game is at 9:00 tonight. If the Bruins game ends early enough, I might watch an inning or two of the Brewers.

Go Brewers!

Want to know what pisses me off about the MLB? A lot, that's what pisses me off.

This is just one of the many things that pisses me off about the MLB

That is the list of headlines on the website MLB.COM this afternoon. The only mention of the Milwaukee Brewers is the fact they are playing baseball this afternoon. There are two stories about the Yankees/Judge and there is one story about the fact the Red Sox need some improvement.

The Brewers were the best team in all of major league baseball this past season and they are currently only one game away from eliminating the Cubs and moving on to the NLCS. You would think that would be news in the MLB but apparently it's not. Judge, a guy who has never won a world series, is their number one news target. Ohtani is number two, by the way.

There are 9 guys on a baseball team but according to MLB, the Yankees only have 1 guy. The other 8 guys are just standing around picking their noses.

The sportings continue

Yesterday was opening day for the NHL but the Bruins did not play.

Tonight is opening night for the Bruins when they go to Washington to take on the Capitals. Puck drops at 7:30 so I should be able to watch most, if not all of the game.

I will be watching and probably yelling at my tv, "Shoot the f*****g puck!"

In the baseball world, the Judge's managed to overcome a deficit and beat the Blue Jays last night, keeping their playoff hopes alive.

Today is the big day for baseball with all four series being played today.

The Mariners / Tigers game kicked off at 3:08 (currently tied 3-3 in the 6th), the Brewers / Cubs game kicked off at 5:08, the Blue Jays / Judge's game will kick off at 7:08 and the Phillies / Ohtani's game kicks off at 9:08.

I'm pretty sure I won't be watching the Judge's or the Ohtani's because I will be watching the Bruins.

You should bring in your plants.

We are about to get a reminder that we live in New England and that it gets cold here. The so-called experts are saying that it will be below 43° tonight and below freezing tomorrow night.

Golf was played

and my lawn was mowed.

Now I'm trying to figure out what to do for dinner.

The Mariners / Tigers game is delayed because of rain which has kinda screwed things up.

The game was scheduled on Fox Sports at 4:00 and the Blue Jays / Judges game was scheduled on Fox Sports at 8:00. Now the Mariners / Tigers game has started at 7:00 on the MLB network.

I guess I'll watch an hour of that game before switching over the the Blue Jays / Judges game.

Go Brewers!

Couple of big wins

When I went to bed at halftime last night, the Patriots were up 6-3 over the Bills. When I woke up this morning, I discovered that the Patriots had turned the ball over fewer times than the Bills had and they won the game 23-20.

The first half of that game was a disaster for both teams with fumbles on both sides and no one able to get the ball over the goal line. All the scoring I saw was field goals.

But none of that matters. What matters is that the Patriots won and they are now in second place in the AFCEast:

Unfortunately, the win cost them.

In the baseball world, the Judges got their ass handed to them again when they lost 13-7 to the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays lead that series 2-0 and are looking at sweeping the Judges.

The Mariners beat the Tigers to tie their series 1-1

There were no NL games yesterday so those series are unchanged.

Here's where things stand right now:

Go Brewers!

I mowed my lawn 4 days ago.

Looks like I need to mow it again.

I guess I have something to do tomorrow after golfing with Pat and Willie.

Busy sports day for me

The Judges got their ass handed to them this afternoon, losing 13-7.

The Rangers / Bruins game from last got replayed this afternoon so I watched the last two periods of that. The Bruins won 4-1.

Now it's time for the Patriots to hopefully make the big brained prediction people look like the fools when they are and beat the Bills. Personally, I don't know if the defense can stop Allen from scoring but we'll see what happens.

All that means I didn't spend a lot of time looking for stuff to chat about.

Go Brewers!

The Brewers beat the Cubs 9-3 this afternoon.

The Blue Jays are up 6-1 over the Judges after 7 innings.

This has been your baseball update.

Between the gaudy gold-painted ballroom, the gold paint all over everything in the Oval Office and these little baubles, it's safe to say that this is the tackiest presidency in the history of the United States.

I wonder if you can refuse to accept these as change since they are a "commemorative coin"?

The Bruins played their final preseason game this afternoon, beating the Rnagers 4-1.

Now they finalize their roster and get ready to kick off the season this Wednesday.

The Red Sox are on vacation

The Red Sox lost to the Judges last night, ending their season sooner than I would have liked.

My youngest is now rooting for the Cubs and I am rooting for the Brewers. He's rooting for the cubs because I guess he kinda likes them and I am rooting for the Brewers becuase they need to win the World Series for Bob Uecker.

And now, my friends, in addition to football season, it is also hockey season. The Bruins start their regular season schedule on October 8th when they go to Washington DC to take on the Capitals.

There is also the occasional golf tournament I should be able to watch. Also, the Winter Olympics are being held in Italy and you all know that means...

Curling!

So I guess what I'm saying is that there is plenty of sportings for me to watch until next February when pitchers and catchers report to camp down in Fort Meyers.

Oh, and I'm a happy guy because this is the last season I'll be forced to watch baseball on ESPN, the worlds worst sports network.

I have some things to complain about:
Dear Google, I don't want to "sign in to a website using my google account". I don't sign in to websites unless it's to conduct business and then I use an account that I created with the business. Please stop popping up that annoying message.

Dear Google, please stop telling me you can find results closer to me. When I type an address into the maps search field, just show me the address.

Dear television news, please stop showing us commercials disguised as a news story. It's disengenuous of you and it kinda sucks.

Dear Governor Healy, please stop being shocked by the high cost of liquified natural gas. Your Department of Public Utilities approves the rates and Massachusetts pays the highest rate sin the country.

Dear neighbors, please stop yelling goodbye to your visitors at 1:00 in the morning. You are loud and your voice carries all through town. Just wave and send them on their way.
That is all for now. Trust me, there are many more things I want to complain about but I'll stop here.

Dammit

Despite having numerous runners in scoring position, the Red Sox just couldn't get their act together and they ended up losing 4-3 last night.

They should have scored at least two more runs last night. One when Eaton rounded 3rd but the 3rd base coach held him up on a ball that was far enough out to allow him to score. Another when there were runners in scoring position and Rafaela was told to bunt.

Turns out he doesn't know how to bunt but he gave it a valiant try.

Well, maybe it wasn't a valiant try but it was definitely a try.

Anyways, the final game is tonight and since Giolito is out with a bad elbow, it falls to Connelly, the rookie.

It turns out the Judges will also be running a rookie out to the mound tonight.

This should be an interesting game...

Busy day today.

First thing this morning, The Vet sent me a text asking about a message they were getting on one of thier computers. It was an indication of a failed hard drive.

I went over to the clinic and sure enough, there was a message about the drive failing. I shut the machine down and took it apart. There was a small M.2 NVMe drive that sure looked okay to me but once I ran the diagnostics, it came back with a pretty lengthy set of errors.

Since the company that supplies their software said that they would reload everything if they replaced the drive, I found an exact replacement on Amazon.

Once it comes in, I'll install it and they can have their sotware people load eveything up.

After that I mowed my lawn.

Yes, I know I just mowed it but one of the downsides to having sprinklers and a fertilizer guy is that the damned lawn grows.

A lot...

Then I set about to see if I can get this damned raspberry pi to recognize the new camera I installed in it.

I've been working on this thing for seveal days now and it's become a challenge that I refuse to give up on.

Great win

Crochet pitched a great game and left the mound after 8⅔ innings with a 3-1 lead.

Chapman came in to pitch to the last batter in the 8th and then pitch the 9th. When he left the mound, the game was over and the Red Sox had beat the Judges 3-1, taking game 1 of the 3-game series.

The ESPN announcers were sad because they wanted Judge and his helpers to win.

As a matter of fact, the "ESPN sucking up to the Yankees and elevating Judge to godhood" got so bad last night that at one point, Eduardo "I got something in my throat. It might be Judge's penis" Perez said, "Judge is in scoring position whenever he has a bat in his hand."

Here's the reality:
Judge went up to bat 4 times last night, he got 2 hits, struck out once, flew out once and scored zero runs.

Bregman, a guy who is getting over either the flu or a cold, went up to bat 4 times last night, he got 2 hits, struck out once, walked once and drove in one run.

For the record, Bregman has the better line and he wasn't feeling all that great.

Tonight's game has Bello on the mound. First pitch is at 6:08.

Speaking of baseball, it's time to revisit the giant-brain predictions from the beginning of the season.

Back on February 4th, some outfit called "Baseball Prospectus" released the following 2025 regular season prediction:

As of October 1st, these were the regular season standings:

I'll let you decide if the so-called experts were anywhere close to being accurate...

Golf was played today and it was a bit chilly this morning.

In keeping with our normal procedures, we decided to meet at 10:00 this morning. I gotta tell you, I'm glad I brought my long sleeve shirt along with me because not only was it in the mid 50's, there was some pretty steady winds blowing which made it seem even colder.

We've decided that the next time we play, we're going to throw tradition to the wind and tee off at noon when hopefully it will be a bit warmer.

Of course, given that this is New England, it could be in the 90's next time we play...
