They didn't get swept

The Red Sox won last night, beating the Rangers 4-3 and avoiding the sweep.

Their "magic number" to clinch a playoff slot is currently calculated at 3 which means they need to win at least 3 of their 9 remaining games.

Fangraphs currently has them at a 100% chance of getting into the playoffs.

Tonight they start a 3-game series against the Rays.

The other day I said, "They should win the series against the Rangers, win at least 1 game against the Rays, win the series against the Guardians and win the series against the Cubs."

I was wrong about the Rangers series and I'm thinking I'm probably not all that correct about the Rays series. Let's face it, I really have no idea what I'm talking about...

The Red Sox lost 4-2 last night and they are now 6 games behind the Judges.

Fortunately, they are still 5½ games ahead of the Guardians and 7 games ahead of the Rangers.

Thanks to Dementia Donny and his ill-conceived trade war, I suspect that will will soon change as Canada increases its trade with Europe and decreases its trade with the US.

As the world pulls back from the United States, our country will become less powerful and our allies will become fewer. It's already manifested itself with the total lack of world involvement in Trump's Iran war.

20 years ago, if the US President said to our allies, "We need to form a coalition and use military force to take care of this problem" the majority of them would have stood up and marched alongside of us. Now, they all look at us and say, "No, you go right ahead. We'll just be over here minding our own business."

Clinchers

The Rays and the Judges have punched their ticket to the playoffs. They have both clinched, which is baseball's way of saying that even if they lost all of their remaining games, they would still be in the playoffs.

There are 12 games left in the regular season. The Red Sox are in the 2^nd wildcard slot with a 6½ game lead over the Guardians and a7½ game lead over the Blue Jays. That means that if the Red Sox lose 8 of their remaining 12 games, the Guardians win 7 of their remaining 12 games and the Blue Jays win 8 of their remaining 12 games, the Red Sox will be bumped from the wildcard race.

Do I think that is possible? Yes, it is mathematically possible that the Red Sox can be eliminated from the playoffs. Their remaining 12 games are against four pretty solid opponents, the Rangers (.493), the Rays (.604), the Guardians (.503) and the Cubs (.556) which means not only is it possible, it is slightly more than a little possible.

They should win the series against the Rangers, win at least 1 game against the Rays, win the series against the Guardians and win the series against the Cubs.

Is that a guarantee? No, it is not.

Baseball is a funny sport. All it takes is for a pitcher to have a bad inning and the game can go to hell quickly. If one baserunner makes a mistake, a game-winning rally can be cut short. If one fielder makes an error, the opponent can feed off that and come from behind to take the lead. If the manager makes a bad in-game decision to substitute a batter or a pitcher, everything can fall apart. Hell, an umpire having a bad day and making some terrible calls can mean that all bets are off on who will win that kind of game.

Baseball is a funny game and that, my friends, is why I enjoy it so much.

This is a perfect example of why we need both term limits and age limits.

Personally, I think the term limit should be 4 terms for congress and 2 terms for senate. I think the age limit should 80 for all elected offices.

It's not only insane, it's also kinda dangerous that McConnell, a guy who is having more medical issues than my crippled grandmother had before she died and has fewer functioning brain cells than my dog did, is able to make decisions that impact all of us.

I may be in the throes of lawn tractor failure...

I had to replace my walk-behind mower this spring and now it appears my lawn tractor is experiencing some significant issues with the engine.

There is a major power loss when under load and it's popping/backfiring a lot.

It could be a bad valve, it could be a dirty carburetor, it could be bad spark plugs, it could be timing/ignition issues. The bottom line is I have no idea what the problem is and to be honest with you, I'm not sure I want to spend a lot of time trying to fix a 16 year old lawn tractor that could require an engine rebuild.

I'm going to shop around a bit while I'm buying some new plugs, oil filter and air filter. I figure I can replace the easy-to-replace stuff to see if that helps any and if I run across a good deal on a lawn tractor, maybe I'll just bite the bullet and replace this one.

The Red Sox beat the Royals 4-1 last night. That gave them the series win.

They are off today while they travel to Arlington, TX where tomorrow they will start a 3-game series against the Rangers.

The man believes everything he says. He is convinced that everything that is wrong with our world is the fault of anyone other than him.

Trump has been in office for 1½ years and I'm positive that the price of a gallon of gasoline was $2.84 about 9 months ago. I'm also positive that there were no issues with any ships moving through the Strait of Hormuz.

All of these issues started when Donny Boy decided to launch an attack on Iran and then half-ass it when he realized they weren't going to roll-over and capitulate.

Delayed game

Today's baseball game was scheduled for 1:05 but ended up starting at 4:55 because of rain.

Right now it is the top of the 4^th inning and the score is 1-0 in favor of the Red Sox.

In one of the rarest feats in baseball, Tolle threw an immaculate first inning. For those of you that are not baseball people, that is 9 pitches, 9 strikes and 3 outs.

Now if the hitters can start touching home plate, they stand a chance of winning.

But they won this afternoon...

Last night, the Red Sox just couldn't overcome and they lost 3-2. Grey took the loss but I thought he pitched pretty good. It was the hitters that just couldn't turn their hit's into runs.

As for today, the hitters remembered that they need to step on home plate to win and they beat the Royals 5-1.

They need the wins.

Doesn't seem like 25 years

I was working at an office, my wife was working at a college. I was standing in a room with a few hundred of my fellow co-workers watching a TV set showing live images of the World Trade Center in New York City. One tower was on fire after being hit by a plane and, while we watched, a second plane hit the second tower.

That was when it became clear to all of us that this was no tragic accident.

I tried to call my wife but she was teaching a class and had her phone off. I left her a message and when she called me back, I told her what was happening and she should to go to the nearest ATM, withdraw as much money as the machine would allow and go home. I told her to be ready to pick up the kids from school.

We had no idea what we were seeing or who was attacking us but I wanted to be sure we could be together as a family and have cash available in case the banking system had a problem.

Within a day we had an understanding of who attacked us and our government seemed to be functioning in a sane manner. People were not only frightened, they were pissed off and we all wanted to kick someones ass.

Things haven't been the same since then but they are what they are. We seem to have accepted that the world is no longer the trusting place it once was. We also seem to have accepted that we may never get back to that world.

Like all of you, I'm just making way through this world, trying to be nice to people and trying to understand when things change.

Hell, I'm just glad I no longer have to take my shoes off to get on a plane...

Last night we went to dinner with our neighbors and it took way longer than usual.

Don't get me wrong, it was an enjoyable evening but the restaurant seemed out of sorts. Like it wasn't running at it's normal clip and as a result, things seemed to take a lot longer than they usually did.

Today was lunch with the boys and once again, we have solved all of the worlds problems.

We should run for office or something.

The Red Sox start a 3-game series against the Royals this evening. First pitch is at 7:10 and Grey has the starts.

They lost their series against the Angels, which is something that should not have happened, and as a result, they are once again 4½ games behind the Judges and 7½ games behind the Rays.

We have reached the point in the season where MLB has added the elimination column to the standings. This represents the number of games they would have to lose to be eliminated from the playoffs.

With 15 games left in the season, I really hope the Red Sox don't lose 8 of them...

Oh, and not only did the Red Sox lose last night, the Patriots also lost.

A loss.

The Red Sox did not play well last night and they got their ass handed to them by the Angels.

Sandoval did not have a great outing and while the batters were hitting the ball, they failed to step on home plate.

In the end, the Angles beat them 6-1.

Bennett has the start and first pitch was at 6:45. Rain is in the area but hopefully the game will be completed tonight.

I took three 5-gallon buckets of acorns out of my backyard this morning. This is on top of the three or four we took out of there yesterday.

Whenever there is a slight breeze, it sounds like it's raining really hard only it's not rain, it's acorns.

Maybe I should just leave them and let them grow into oak trees. Then I won't have to mow back there anymore.

Based on his performances this season, I initially said to myself, "Well, this is stupid. They're gonna lose."

Well, they didn't lose and I'm going to admit that he pitched a pretty damned good game. It was almost like the Bello of 2025.

I don't labor anymore...

Today is Labor Day (or if you are British, Labour Day) which is a day that was officially recognized by the federal government back in 1894.

What fascinates me about that fact is that the federal government only offically recognized the day after an event known as the The Pullman Strike.

Seems that the railroad barons decided that they were paying their workers too much money so they cut their pay and increased their hours. This kinda pissed off the workers so they went on strike. This caused the trains to come to a standstill in Chicago and since the mail was transported by train, that caused the mail to be halted. This pissed off Grover Cleveland so he sent in troops and gunned down 87 striking workers, killing 30 & wounding 57.

Old Grover understood that the murder of 30 citizens was a bad look and it made him look really bad to the rest of the country. He huddled up with his people and they decided that letting people hold parades and giving them a day off would make him look good so he established Labor Day.

Basically, we get a day off to make up for the government murdering 30 people.

The Red Sox beat the Angels this afternoon and since the Judges & the Rays did not play today, they picked up half game on both.

They are now 2 games behind the Judges and 6 games behind the Rays.

There are 17 games left in the season so it is highly possible they overcome the Judges and move into the 1^st wildcard slot. What is also possible but not likely is that they overcome the Rays and move into 1^st place in the ALEast.

According to Fangraphs, they have a 99.9% chance of making the playoffs which is way better than the 20.6% it was back in June.

Game 2 of the series is tomorrow. First pitch is at 6:45 and since the Red Sox seem to be jugling their pitching rotation, I have no idea who will get the start.

The Red Sox could not overcome the fiasco that was the Jedixson Paez experiment and they lost to the Mariners 9-6 last night.

Based on what I saw, they would be smart to never bring that kid back up to the majors ever again. It was awful to watch. It was like watching a position player start a game and try to go 5 innings.

He didn't make it 5 innings, he only made it 3⅔ innings and as far as I'm concerned, that was 3 innings too many.

Today's game started at 4:10 and right now, the score is 4-1 Mariners after 4 innings. They need to get their shit together and start scoring some runs.

The Red Sox beat the Mariners 9-8 last night. Story was the big hero of the game when he drove in the winning run in the 10^th inning.

Today is the day the rosters expand by two additional players so the Red Sox activated Kiner-Falelfa from his rehab assignment in Worcester. They also called up some kid named Jedixson Paez who will be the starting pitcher tonight.

All the "baseball wizards" are saying this kid Paez is great and we should expect great things from him, what with him being great and all that.

Personally, I'll be glad if he can get through 5 innings while only giving up 4 runs.

We had two houseguests today.

My daughter had some work being done at her house today. Rather than leave the dogs there alone to bark and panic over the strangers working in the backyard, she brought them over to our house to spend the day with us where they could bark and panic over any small sound in our backyard. The difference is we were here to say, "Hey, it's okay. It's just an acorn falling out of a tree."

Two losses

The Red Sox lost last night, getting beat by the Judges 9-2.

This afternoon, they went and got their asses kicked by the Judges, losing 16-1.

Yes, you read that correctly, they lost 16-1.

They are now 4 games behind the Judges and 8 games behind the Rays

They are on their way back to Boston where tomorrow they will start a 3-game series against the Mariners.

Today we dethatched and mowed the lawn. Man, I pulled a lot of crap out of that lawn with that tow-behind dethatcher thing.

My wife did the edges and around the trees with the push mower ao we were able to get the entire lawn done in less than 2 hours which isn't bad considering I have to stop every row to empty the bag of all the dead grass the dethatcher ripped out.

After that, I watched the Red Sox get massacred.

That means I did not spend a lot of time surfing the interwebs for news.

A loss and a win

The Red Sox lost last night, getting beat 1-0 by the Judges.

The Red Won won this afternoon, beating the Judges 6-0.

Tonights game is at 7:15pm and Gamboa has the start. That means he will go as long as he can before they pull him and put Bello in.

In all honesty, I never have the warm fuzzies when Bello is pitching. Sometimes he's great and other times he sucks. I hope tonight is one of the good nights.

Dementia Donny has lied about pretty much everything he's ever talked about. The list of things he has lied about is longer than a New York City phone book. Things like, "The economy is doing great!" or "Gas prices are coming down!" or "I did not rape that woman!" and my personal favorite, "The election was stolen! Stolen I tell you!"

He is a pathological liar and he can't help himself. It's gotten to the point where if DD says one thing and Iran says something different, I believe Iran.

Having said that, if there is one time that I really hope he is telling the truth, it's this time.

If his administration was able to put together a 100 year deal with an oil producing nation that is not controlled by a religious dictatorship, it would be great. Particularly if it's good for both us and the Venezuelans.
