Am I still busy?

Let me check.

Yep, still busy.

I'm busy

I'm doing important stuff.

I could tell you but I won't because I tired and I don't feel like typing anymore.

Saturday, December 21, 2024

Busy, busy, busy

No post today.

This is a busy time of the year and this year is particularly busy.

There may not be any posts this week.

Or there may be posts this week.

We'll see how the week goes.

Loss in OT

When I went to bed, the game was in the second period and the Bruins were up 2-1.

I woke up to discover that the Bruins had lost 3-2 in OT.

They picked up the one overtime point but they are now in fourth place in the division.

Next game is Saturday against the Sabres. Puck drops at 7:00

In response to all the reports of drones over New York and New Jersey, the FAA has issued a bunch of TFRs (temporary flight restrictions).

That is a screenshot of the FAA-issued VFR flight chart for the east coast showing portions of New York, New Jersey, Deleware and Pennsylvania. Basically it covers the US from the eastern tip of Long Island to just south of Wilmington Deleware.

Each orange circle is a no-fly zone that goes from the land surface up to 400 feet. They appear to be situated over items of interested like bridges, power plants, towers, etc... and they all expire in one month on January 19th.

Will they accomplish anything? No, they will not.

The only people that will obey those flight restrictions are the 1% of drone operators that are licensed under the FAA. The other 99% of the public that owns drones are not licensed and they don't pay attention to to rules or restrictions.

Here's a picture of El Presidenté Musk and his faithful lackey, The Donald.

I heard a rumor that Musk is trying to get elected as the Speaker of the House.

Laugh if you want but there is no constitutional requirement that the speaker needs to be a sitting congressman. Anyone can be elected as speaker...

No, that wasn't code

When I posted the text messages yesterday, I included one between my wife and myself. Someone asked me if it was code for anything.

No, it's not code. One of The Sisters (Willow) is a bit of a nutcase and she stays hidden all day long. She also tends to run away from people that happen to wonder to close to her. Because of her paranoia, she doesn't eat much. Unlike her sister, Sage, who has a bit of a belly that rolls back and forth when she walks, Willow is skinny.

One those rare occasions where she makes an appearance, we send silent text messages to each other so we don't accidentally frighten her away from the food.

Or maybe it is code and we're planning a heist...

Yes, I'll be watching some hockey.

No, I won't watch all of the game. It's on too late.

A win in OT is still a win

The Bruins beat the Flames 4-3 last night thanks to a late goal in the sudden death OT period.

With less than a minute to go in 3-on-3 overtime, Pastrnak was able to snap the puck into the Flames goal and win the game.

Oh, and I want to point out that they had zero penalty minutes last night.

They remain in third place, three points behind the Maple Leafs and the Panthers.

Next game is tomorrow against the Oilers. Puck drops at 9:00.

Boy, everybody is sure up in arms about this whole "China is reading our text messages!!!" thing.

The deepest and most detailed text messages I get involved in are usually about sports:

The majority of my text messages look something like this:

If the Chinese want to spend millions trying to decipher my text messages, more power to them...

A bit of trivia

I ran across the following graphic that might just explain why the Bruins suck so much:

That clearly says that since October 8th, the Bruins have played shorthanded hockey for six hours.

Sticking with Bruins/hockey trivia: Out of those six hours, Zadorov and Kastelic have both spent one hour and five minutes sitting in the box.

I like the fact the Bruins are willing to take care of business but when you are losing games like they are, they need to stay on the ice.

Trust me, no NHL team has ever won a hockey game be getting the most penalty minutes.

Tonight's game against the Flames is on at 9:00 so maybe I'll be able to watch some of it.

Remember, it is a criminal violation of federal law to shoot at any aircraft so don't go taking pot shots at any of those "drones" you see flying overhead.

They suck

I'm afraid there is no other way to explain it: They suck.

I watched the entire first half of last nights game and then decided to end my suffering by putting on the Steelers.

They also suck.

Oh, and whoever decided the Seattle Seahawks needed to wear lime green uniforms should be taken out and maimed.

Not like "break their legs" maimed but like maybe "twist their ring finger a little bit" maimed.

They got my hopes up. Then they dashed my hopes on the rocks of reality...

At least the S&P held it's own.

We went to the Big E this year and while it was pretty crowded, it wasn't overwhelming.

Yes, there were a lot of people but we got to see everything we wanted to see, eat all the crappy food we wanted to eat, wander through the state buildings picking up ideas for future adventures and of course, visit the "shitty items for sale" buildings.

Not once did I feel like, "If something goes wrong, we ain't getting out of here".

Nice win.

The Bruins played very well.

You know how I know they played well? Because not only did they win the game 5-1, they managed to take 28 shots at the Canucks goal, they only had six penalty minutes and Swayman had 19 saves over 20 shots. That's a save percentage of 95%.

That's a well-played game.

They're off now until Tuesday when they will be in Calgary to play the Flames. That game starts at 9:00 so I'll be able to watch at least the first period, maybe the second as well.

As for the Patriots, their game against the Cardinals started at 4:25 and the score is currently 0-0.

I figure I'll watch as much of the game as I can but if they start to stink the place up, I'll flip on the Steelers/Eagles game and watch that.

It's always better to watch a game where a team you are rooting for stands a chance of winning...

In baseball news, the Red Sox traded DFA'd Enmanuel Valdez the other day today they traded him to the Pirates for a minor league pitcher named Joe Vogatsky.

Not sure if this is good or bad. Valdez wasn't getting enough playing time to improve so him going to the Pirates might get him more playing time.

As for Vogatsky, I said he was a minor league pitcher but that might not be true. He got drafted last season by the Pirates and he never played a game in the minors. He's only ever played college baseball and summer league ball.

I guess we'll know more once he gets into the system and we see what he can do.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for a win

The Bruins are in Vancouver to play the Canucks and since the puck drops at 10:00, I won't know if they won or lost until tomorrow morning.

They really need to win...

Found this on the interwebs and it made me smile:

The losses continue

The Kraken beat the Bruins last night even though I wasn't watching. That leads me to believe their lack of playing skill has nothing to do with my presence.

That's a relief...

Next game is tomorrow against the Canucks. Once again, the puck drops at 10:00pm...

I heard from Pat and he is in the process of updating the WOPR.

Any power surges/lapses that the people of Ludlow may experience over the next few days may not be directly linked to that activity but who really knows. The man put a 1,000 watt power supply in it fer cripes sake...

Busy day so here are some links:

No news is good news

Other than a quick email saying he needs to update the BIOS, I've heard nothing from Pat indicating there are any problems with the new WOPR.

I'm going to make the same assumption my mother always made when I was a teenager: No news is good news.

I said this the other day but it's important so I'll say it again:
Tonights Bruins game is on at 10:00. That means I will not be watching it.
This has been my daily whine about things being shown on TV past my bedtime.

The Red Sox have managed to find themselves a starting pitcher.

They traded four youngsters from the farm system to the White Sox for Garrett Crochet.

I have no knowledge of Crochet or his skills but according to all the baseball wizard's on the interwebs, he's pretty good. He's also a lefty so they now have one lefthanded starter in their rotation.

Hopefully they acquire some hitting to replace the loss of O'Neill.

Not to sound like a complete moron but I'm starting to think they might be able to play some decent baseball this coming season.

In other sporting news, Bill Belichick is now the head football coach of the University of North Carolina.

Bill, buddy, you're 72 years old. That's old as hell. Retire, move down south and go fishing all day. Screw this running around on a field yelling at 20 year old kids.

Well, things changed

The Bruins did not lose last night...

They got their ass kicked.

They got beaten into the ice.

They got stomped on, dragged into the locker room and left for dead.

The Jets beat the Bruins 8-1 and the only reason it wasn't 8-0 is because Pastrnak got lucky on a power play and slipped one past the Jet's goalie.

So as I alluded to yesterday, the standings have changed:

Their next game is tomorrow night against the Kraken. Puck drops at 10:00 so I won't be watching any of that game.

The police, by definition, are "law enforcement". They are not security guards. Their job is not to watch over you and protect you from loss or harm. If you need someone to watch over you and your property, hire a security firm.

If I read any stories about police departments being used to protect multi-million dollar executives, I'm going to be pissed.

Today was "Build the new WOPR" day and I can say with all honesty, it went well.

When I left Pat, the new PC was up and running and he was figuring out what OS he was going to load.

It is a beast of a machine and Pat should get a lot of years out of it.

Here are some pics of the build:
CPU, RAM and SSD installed in motherboard. Mother board installed in case.

Cooling tower and fans installed onto CPU. Power supply installed in case.

Graphics card installed and front panel wired into motherboard.

Power applied to motherboard. No smoke!

First light. Everything is recognized and functional.

Oh, and for the record, the computer did not say, "Greetings, Professor Falken" when we first booted it up but if it had, that would have been very cool.

There is hockey

It's on at 8:00 so I won't make it through the entire game but at least I'll have something to entertain me this evening.

Prior to the start of all the game tongith, the Bruins remain in third place in the division.

Both the Maple Leafs and the Panthers are playing this evening so these standings will probably be different tomorrow morning.

I'm hoping they show the Bruins in second place...

This is the third or fourth break-in at a players house during a game. One of the thoughts being shared by investigators is this may be the work of a single gang that is targeting particular players.

I can't help but wonder if this is the work of that Tren de Aragua gang from Venezuela.

There is a lack of sportage

I can watch football this evening but let's face it, I don't like either the Bengals or the Cowboys.

Don't get me wrong, I'll put it on the TV but I'll pay more attention to youtube and the interwebs than I will to the game.

Juan Soto is going to be paid $51,000,000.00 every year for the next 15 years by the New York Mets.

Secondary football

The Patriots are on a bye week so no New England football for me. Fortunately, the Steelers and the Browns went at it so I had that to watch.

The "Stillers" played some pretty good football and they managed to beat the Browns 27-14. Hey, they're playing better than the Patriots...

I look forward to the Patriots being back on the field next week.

Yes, there was hockey.

Yes, I watched the game.

Yes, the Bruins beat the Flyers 3-4 in overtime and picked up the two points.

The Bruins had a slow first period and they had to come back from a 3-1 deficit going into the third period. They tied things up in the third and slung the winning goal after two and half minutes of 3-on-3 play in the OT period.

Next up for them is a trip to Winnipeg to take on the Jets this Tuesday. Puck drops at 8:00

Nope, still not high enough.
It's only $297 million.

Baseball Hall of Fame class of 2025 votes have begun to roll in. There are twelve votes tallied so far and Ichiro Suzuki & Carsten Charles Sabathia have both received 12 votes each.

I predict those two will get in with 99.9999 percent of the votes because that asshole Shaughnessy from The Globe will decide to not vote for either one. I guess we'll know in a month or so.

Junk mail is afoot.

Time once again to review my spam/scam email:

Out of those 21 junk mail messages, 14 of them are from some shitty organization calling itself the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC).

Near as I can tell, the NRSC is an organization that might actually be real and is run by a senator named Daines from Montana.

What I'm wondering is if I can sue Daines under the CAN_SPAM act or if the law has a built-in "political messages don't fall under this act" clause...

The FBI released a notice that warned people of a cell phone hack by China. Basically, China was able to penetrate some cell networks and scrape text messages that people were sending.

Here's my take on this: I don't care if some Chinese guy reads my text messages.

For example, here's a text message I sent to my wife that I don't think the Chinese can use against me:

Here's another text exchange between John and myself that I'm betting the Chinese don't give a shit about:

The bottom line, unless you are a member of a government agency dealing with state secrets, you probably don't have anything to worry about either.

And yet another win

The Bruins beat the Blackhawks 4-2 last night and it was actually a really good game to watch.

Both teams played hard and they mixed it up a bit but nothing nasty. Zadarov is proving to be the Bruins enforcer, making sure that anyone who messes with his teammates pay a price. I gotta be honest with you, they guy is 6'6" and weighs 250. I wouldn't want to mess with him...

They are three points behind the Maple Leafs and one point behind the Panthers. If they can continue playing the way there are currently playing, they stand a real good chance of moving to first place in the division.

Their next game is Saturday when they will take on the Flyers. Puck drops at 1:00pm.

Another win

Despite the streamingness of last nights game, I was able to keep tabs on it and actually see some video of the highlights.

The Bruins beat the Red Wings 3-2 in overtime, taking the two points and moving to within three points of the division leaders.

They take on the Blackhawks tonight and the game is being carried by TNT. That means I can watch it.

Puck drops at 7:30.

The Red Wings are in Boston to play the Bruins this evening. That means I have my entertainment for the night.

I tell you this because I know you are concerned about the quality of my entertainment and I want to assure you that I am indeed entertained.

Looks like no one, including all the democrats, is happy that Goofy Joe lied when he said he wouldn't pardon his son.

I got news for all of you unhappy people: Biden has been lying to you since he was the vice president.

He's not only very good at lying, he's very good at playing his lies off as him just being confused or elderly.

Time once again for an update on roster moves the Red Sox are making during the off season.
Holy Crap! The Red Sox went and got themselves a pitcher who I've heard of!

Granted, he's not the same guy he was when he was pitching for the Yankees and I'm not sure he is a good addition to the team but he's got a history of being able to get guys out. This may not be a terrible idea on Breslow's part.
This has been your update on roster moves by the Red Sox.

I live in New England. Specifically, I live in western/central Massachusetts.

We get snow here in the wintertime. Sometimes we get a little snow, sometimes we get a shitload of snow. No matter how much we get, I can assure you that people will panic.

The weather service is predicting some snow for us on Wednesday night into Thursday morning and based on past history, I'm willing to bet the grocery stores will be crowded on Wednesday afternoon because everyone will suddenly need bread, milk and batteries. Also, schools will be closed on Thursday because the roads will be "treacherous".

Did I mention that they are predicting between 1 and 3 inches?

No, that is not a lot of snow but it is more than enough to send our school administrators into a frenzy and turn up the anxiety juice on all the people who tend to panic over things like snow.

As for me, I'm good. My wife is now a member of the retired community so she has no place she has to be on Thursday morning. That means we can take our time shoveling our driveway. If we do actually get three inches, I might break out The Beast just to put it through its paces and make sure it's still fully functional.

The Bruins won.

The Bruins managed to hold on nd win last nights game, beating the Canadiens 6-3 and moving back above .500.

They are now in third place in the division, still only four points behind the Panthers.

Their next game is tomorrow against the Red Wings. This is another one of those streamed games so I won't be able to watch it unless I sign up for Hulu.

I'm not signing up for Hulu...

Goofy Joe musta forgot that he said he wouldn't pardon his son because yesterday he pardoned his son.

Look, I'm a dad. If one of my children got into trouble, I would do whatever I could to get him out of trouble. That includes pardoning them if I had that power. Where Biden failed is when he said he wouldn't do it.

What he should have said was, "Look, I'm a dad and I will do almost anything to help my son. When the time comes for me to make whatever decisions need to be made, I will make them."

Trump tossed pardon's around like they were party favors when he was president. Then again, he kinda had to toss them around because almost every one of his staff was convicted of a crime...

Biden is a boob but he's also a dad. If he had let his kid go to prison when he had the power to stop it, that would have made him a shitty dad in my book.

That was a painful loss

The Patriots scored first and ended the first quarter down 7-6.

They score again in the second quarter and ended the half up 14-16.

They did not score in the third quarter and ended that quarter down 17-16.

In the fourth quarter, they scored a touchdown and a conversion, going up 24-17. The Colts then scored touchdown and a conversion, going up 24-25.

With 1 second left in the game, the Patriots attempted a 60 yard field goal that came up short, ending the game with a 24-25 loss.

Could they have won the game? Yes they could but instead of scoring, they decided to commit infractions and get penalized when they were within a few yards of the end-zone. If they had avoided those penalties, I'm confident they would have probably scored two additional touchdowns.

Oh well. According to Robert Kraft, a guy who I think is half in the bag every time he gets interviewed, they are in a rebuilding year...

In other sport stuff, today's Bruins game is on the anniversary of their first game, 100 years ago and are beating up on the Canadiens right now.

They are in the third period and the Bruins are up 5-3.

Hopefully they continue to play good during the final five minutes and they win their "Centennial Game"

Another loss

The Bruins led for the first period, the Penguins tied it up in the second period and they scored the winning goal in the third period.

There was one interesting item that was actually kinda funny. While sitting on the bench, Zadarov took his stick and poked Malkin in the butt. Malkin then took his stick and smacked Zadarov in the helmet.

Apparently the National Hockey League frowns upon that sort of behavior.

So anyways, despite losing on a regular basis and being at .500, the Bruins are still only 4 points behind the division leaders, the Panthers.

They take on the Canadiens tomorrow. Puck drops at 3:00.

In case you are interested, no, the Red Sox have not signed any pitchers even though they are in need of pitchers.

Someone keps blowing up electrical transformers in my neighborhood.

Two weeks ago, there was a loud explosion and the street behind me went dark. I pulled up the National Grid outage map and it showed 10 or 12 houses without power in my neighborhood.

This morning, around 7:00am, there was a loud explosion and the street behind me went dark. Once again, I pulled up the National Grid outage map and it looked like at least 5 houses lost power in my neighborhood.

I don't know who is running some huge piece of electrical machinery in their house but they should stop because it's probably starting to piss off the neighbors.

Maybe Pat has moved over there and he keeps plugging in his beast of a computer...

Sorry about that

I clean forgot about posting anything last night and when I finally got around to remembering, it was almost 8:30. I just didn't have the gumption to read any news.

So today is a new day and I still don't have any gumption to read the news.

I did find out that there is supposedly some kind of ceasefire in the middle east. I seem to recall Jimmy Carter announcing some kind of ceasefire back in the 70s and that didn't last very long. I strongly suspect this alleged "ceasefire" isn't going to last very long either.

Those people have been at war with themselves for more than 2,000 years and I've seen nothing that indicates things will change anytime soon.

The Bruins lost again last night.

The Canucks beat them 2-0.

I decided to run the gas out of my lawn mower by using it to pick up all the leaves that have blown into my yard from my neighbors yard.

There weren't too many of leaves so I didn't actually get to run all the gas out. That means I might have to do it again in the next few days because if there is one thing I know, leaving gas in a carburetor over the winter is not the best idea.

Patriots

The Patriots were in Miami to take on the Dolphins this afternoon and it couldn't have gone any worse for them.

At the half, the Dolphins were up 24-0.

At the end of the third period, the Dolphins were up 31-0.

At the end of the game, the Dolphins were up 34-15 which is more than enough to win the game and the Patriots got to take a long plane ride home.

By the way, I saw this tweeter thingee today and I think it is the best description of the Patriots this season:

A 1-0 win is better than a 0-1 loss

The Bruins managed to score a goal 12 minutes into the second period and then hold on till the end of the game to win it 1-0. They were feisty, they were full of energy and they didn't slack off at all. They played hard right up until the end of the game.

And to be honest with you, the score should have been 3-0. They lost one goal when Pastrnak lifted his stick above his shoulder to knock down the puck and then shot it into the net. I'm also pretty sure the puck crossed into the goal during a scrum in front of the net but the ref never called it a goal.

Anyways, they remain in fourth place in the division, 5 points behind the first place Maple leafs.

Next game is tomorrow against the Red Wings. Puck drops at 7:00pm.

I heard a great line on the news this morning. Two talking heads were chatting about Gaetz dropping out of contention for Attorney General and The Donalds new pick, Bondi.

One of them asked, "Do you think she'll be an easier confirmation than Gaetz?" and the other one replied,
"Well, she hasn't been accused of having sex with a minor yet so she's got that going for her!"
That was, in my opinion, one of the great lines of the week.

It also implies that we've reached a point in our society where we are willing to choose our leaders based on what major crimes they may, or may not, have committed...

Looks like Pat has decided on the components for his new machine and has made the purchase.

It's been several years since he and I put together his last machine so I'm looking forward to sitting down with him and building this new beast.
