First game without Monty

Tonight the Bruins will play the Utah Hockey Club and it will be their first game without Jim Montgomery as their coach.

According to everything I've read, the entire team pretty much blames themselves for his firing and they are upset he's gone. That means they are either going to play like a bunch of unhappy 10 year old kids or they are going to come out on fire, ready to kick ass and score goals.

I'm hoping it's the second thing.

Puck drops at 7:00.

We finally got some much needed rain. Problem is, I'm pretty sure it all ran off our lawns into the street and down the storm drains because the ground is so dry, it's like concrete.

Prior to todays rain, this is what our drought status was:

Hopefully some of the rain got absorbed and that picture changes next week.

What the hell is wrong with our world that we are now locking up parents who let their kids be kids?

If this kind of shit was going on when I was a kid, every parent I knew would be in jail. Hell, when I was 10 years old, I would ride my bike from our house in Wilbraham to my old neighborhood in Springfield and hang out with my friends. I'm pretty sure my mom wasn't overjoyed that I did it but she told me to be responsible and safe.

So I was. I learned how to be responsible and safe. Well, maybe not all that responsible and just a little safe but I survived none-the-less.

We, as parents, also gave our kids a lot of freedom to be kids. They were allowed to go where they pleased. Granted, they were required to check in once they got there but there was no helicoptering going on. Besides, I'll be damned if I was going to drive my kids all over town. They could walk or ride their bikes, fer cripes sake.

Jesus, what the hell have we become where a mom who lets their kid go be a kid is considered negligent...
