Once again, no Red Sox.

The Red Sox are on a travel day today, heading to New York to play a three game series against the Yankees.

Once that is done, they'll head back to Boston to play a make-up game against the Indians and then two games against the Cardinals.

After that, they'll do it again when they host the Yankees and then head to Cleveland to play the Indians.

I read an interesting analysis today about North Korea. It seems to me that every news outlet has been saying over and over again that North Korea will not negotiate.

Then I found this interesting tidbit that seemed to make a lot of sense to me.

In the article, the writer says, "The media cherry-picked a part of what the North Koreans were saying in order to write a sensational story."

Here's the key North Korean statement with some emphasis on the part the media is not covering:

We will, under no circumstances, put the nukes and ballistic rockets on the negotiating table. Neither shall we flinch even an inch from the road to bolstering up the nuclear forces chosen by ourselves, unless the hostile policy and nuclear threat of the U.S. against the D.P.R.K. are fundamentally eliminated.

They, meaning the media and the government, need to start paying attention to what is being said.

Four games in first

The Red Sox managed to win last night and the Yankees managed to lose. That means they are now four games ahead of the Yankees.

I like it when they are four games ahead.

I was unable to stay awake to the end of the last nights game and I probably won't make it to the end of tonights games.

Waking up at 4:30 in the morning makes staying awake past 9:00 in the evening a little difficult.

Good dogs.

The doorbell rang and when my wife opened it, there was as stranger at the door. The dogs went ballistic and started barking and growling. As he backed away from the door, he said he was offering energy audits.

I don't want to say that he was in a hurry to get away from the dogs but when my wife said, "No thanks, we're all set" he left as quick as he could.

And that is why I like dogs. If they don't like someone or they get the feeling you are not happy with someone, they will make it clear that they will protect you with their very lives if need be.

I assume that after he left, they both went back to their couches and fell sound asleep.

I know this may shock you but I'm going to watch some baseball now.

No Red Sox tonight

Today is a travel day for the Red Sox as they head down to Tampa for two games against the Rays.

I was pleasantly surprised when I was scrolling through the channel guide, looking for something to watch, and I found that NESN is carrying a Pawtucket Red Sox game. This means I get to watch baseball!

This makes me happy.

This evening I started working on all the "stuff" I need to build a ADSB-in system for my flying pleasure.

For the record, ADSB is the system put together by the FAA to allow ATC as well as aircraft to "see" each other. They issued a directive that all aircraft must have ADSB-out (transmitter) before 2018 so that ATC can "see" all of the aircraft, along with all the information they need to determine altitude, speed, etc... When I show you those images of my flight, it's because of ADSB that they are available.

The beauty of the system is that if you put a ADSB-in (receiver) in your plane and hook it up to a mapping system, you not only get a picture of all the aircraft in your area, you can also receive weather information and airport information.

These are traditionally very expensive systems but several nerd pilots got together some time ago and created not only a flight planning and mapping system for the iPad called FLTPlan Go, someone also came up with a design using the RaspberryPI mini computer that is the perfect ADSB-in receiver.

I have an old iPad that I've successfully installed FLTPlan Go on and in the next few weeks I'll be ordering all the parts I need to build the receiver and connecting it to the iPad.

This means I no longer have to rely solely on my eyes or the ATC to tell me if someone is near me or heading towards me. I will be able to look at a screen and see everything that is around me, inlcuding any weather I need to be aware of.

Good day for baseball

I managed to get my lawn mowed this morning and get cleaned up in time to watch the game.

The Red Sox won, but so did the Yankees and the Rays so the Red Sox remain three games ahead of the Yankees and five & a half games ahead of the Rays..

This is shaping up to be a good second half of the season. And for the record, the Red Sox have won eight of their last ten games and are at .563 for the season.

This makes me a happy guy.

No flying for me this weekend. It's an expensive thing to do so I'm trying to limit myself to only twice a month or maybe even once every three weeks.

Hopefully the weather is good next weekend and I can get an hour of pattern work in.

I like flying in the pattern. It builds my landing skills and as I always say, that's kind of an important skill to have.
