And so it begins.

Spring training has begun baby!

Looks like a lot of players and coaches have arrived in Fort Myers,

Including Kiké Hernandez who was working out at second base:

Fresh cut grass and leather baseball gloves - I love the smell of a ball field.

Not Fenway though.

Fenway smells like swamp, beer and puke. That's one of the reasons I don't go to Fenway. I'm not paying $500 to go watch a Red Sox game when I can go to Worcester to see the AAA team and only pay $120. I like not having to deal with a bunch of drunks from Southie screaming nasty insults at the opposing players, puking their beer and hot dogs all over the backs of the people seated in front of them which is then followed by that shitty drive down Storrow Drive to get back to the pike after the game.

Hey Pat - Look what I found!
I also found two old laptop drives that I need to off-load data from so you can't have it back just yet.

The Bruins managed to come back from behind and beat the Stars in OT last night. I only made it through two periods before going to bed with the Bruins down 2-1. I was pleasantly surprised this morning to see they won 3-2.

This puts them back above .800 on the season. With 42.5 wins (40 regulation wins plus 5 ot wins), they could lose the remaining 29 games and still finish the season with a .520 win percentage.

Do I expect them to win all 29 games? No. Do I expect them to win at least 15 of the remaining 29 games? Yes.

If they win half of their remaining games, they will finish the season with a .690 win percentage.

That is pretty much a guaranteed trip to the playoffs.

I still have one or two DVRs that I can watch this evening and that will clean off my machine.

Until tonight when it will fill up with a new show I recently found:
The premise of the show If We Built It Today is simple: How would we build the pyramids or the Brooklyn Bridge, etc... if we built them today.

It's probably going to suck but I like to give shows like that a chance just in case they are good

No idea what to do for dinner this evening so I gotta go figure that out.

Hello out there

There will be hockey at 8:30 tonight and NESN is carrying the game. That means I might make it through two of the three periods.

As near as I can tell, this is the first time this season they have faced off against the Stars. Should be a good game.

So yesterday I flipped through the television guide andI found Bonanza. I said, "Well, a nice family show about the Cartwrights. I'll watch that" so I flipped it on. First thing I saw was this warning:
What the hell is wrong with Bonanza!?!?

I was kinda busy today and I don't have much to prattle on about.

How about we just do the links:

Looking forward

The Chiefs are the Superb Owl champions and the football season is now behind us. Time to look ahead to the other sportings in my world.

The Bruins are still the first place team in the NHL, seven points ahead of the second place Hurricanes.

The Red Sox players are showing up at JetBlue Park in Fort Meyers with the first workout of pitchers & catchers scheduled for this Wednesday. NESN has announced it will carry all seventeen home games and ten away games so I should be able to watch at least twenty spring training games starting on February 24th.

On top of that, I recently discovered that The World Curling Federation has a youtube channel!

So let's talk about the Superb Owl a bit:

I have disliked every half-time show for the last several years and this one was no different. I miss the days when they would bring out some college marching band who would play music while marching around in bizarre formations. And what happened to the idea that halftime was supposed to last 15 minutes? Last night was at least a half hour.

The field was a joke. There were guys sliding all over the place last night. I felt particularly band for the Eagles kicker who slid just as he kicked the ball. I find it hard to believe that the NFL doesn't have some sort of testing procedure to verify the field is ready to play on before the biggest game of their season.

The commercials were both good and bad. Will Ferrell did a commercial about electric vehicles that I found slightly entertaining. I also liked the one for Popcorners with the guys from Breaking Bad.

They can keep those Jesus commercials. If I want to listen to a religious lecture, I'll go to church.

As for the game itself, it was a well-played game with both teams playing their hearts out and swapping the lead back & forth. I'm glad I managed to stay awake for the whole game.

I'm about to venture into the world of Medicare. That means muddling through the federal government bureaucracy.

Wish me luck...

Go Chiefs!

Yes, I will be watching the Superb Owl today. The Professor and I have some horse d'overies toasting up in the air fryer, a couple of steaks marinating in the fridge and The Dog (The Vet is in Boston at her brothers place) for company.

I will be watching the game because 1) I like Mahomes and B) the commercials are usually entertaining.

Hopefully the commercials are funny this year. The past few years have been kinda lame with only one or two commercials that are funny. Back in the heydays of Superb Owl commercials, before the tech bubble popped and the multi-billion dollar web startups all went bust, there were some pretty damned funny commercials.

Commercials for no-longer-in-existence companies like Outpost.com or FTX...

Wait. FTX was just last year. Never mind.

We have been doing some furniture shopping and I gotta tell you, it sucks. There are very few things more boring than wandering through a building, looking at furniture.

And can someone tell me what the hell makes a couch or a chair worth $2,000? Do they use solid gold screws or rare wood from the planet Mars? That's a lot of damned money.

I'm going to watch the football game.

You can watch the football game too.

Another day, another UFO

There was another object spotted, this time over Canada. The Canadian Prime Minister talked with the U.S. President and Goofy Joe agreed to help them out.

You gotta admit, those F-22 pilots are getting really good at shooting down large, slow-moving objects.

I found this on the webs today:
It doesn't take much to entertain me.

The Bruins faced off against the Capitals this afternnon and they lost 2-1. Not a good start to the post-all-star break.

They're heading to Dallas to take on the Stars this Tuesday. Puck drops at 8:30.

A lot got done today but I did have some interweb time.
