The Mets are in town

The Red Sox will play the Mets tonight. First pitch is at 6:45.

I really hope Dobbins can go more the 4 innings because that bullpen ain't doing so good.

I had an interesting afternoon talking to my new friend Kiesha at the Mass Department of Revenue.

When I got the mail this afternoon, I was more than a little surprised to find this in the mailbox:

That is a tax refund check in the amount of $542 made out to me. The only problem I have with that is the fact we did our taxes back in January and got our refund in February via a direct deposit to our checking account.

The first thought that crossed my paranoid little brain was, "Oh great. Someone is attempting to defraud the state by filing a tax return in my name".

I called the MassDOR and made my way through their annoying phone menu until I got to the final boss who told me to "hold for the next available agent".

Five minutes later, Keisha answered the phone and I explained to her that the state had sent me a check for a refund. Only problem is I had already received a refund back in February.

She did some digging and found out that someone had made an extension payment on their taxes and the agent processing it put it on the wrong account (my account). At some point, the DOR processed the account (my account), found that there was no need for an extension and sent the check back me.

Eventually, they found the correct account (not my account), told me to tear up the check and said not worry, all is well with the world.

Did I mention that I am paranoid?

I have filed the check, along with all the notes I took while speaking with Keisha and I will hold on to them until I file next years taxes. If something is wrong and the DOR screws up my taxpayer account, I want to have proof that I did my best to clear things up.

I was going to test my sprinkler system after I mowed the other day and when I opened the app, I found this:

Nice to know it won't water if it's raining, has recently rained or if rain is predicted.

Here's something that made me laugh:

The ones that really make me laugh are the idiots that hold the phone up to their ear while it is in speaker mode.
