Many things to cover

So, yesterday was an interesting day and there are several things to cover:
  1. The Boston Red Sox fired most of their coaching staff.
  2. Someone took a run at assassinating Dementia Donny.
  3. The Massachusetts Republicans met in Worcester to pick a candidate.
  4. We had our first hummingbird and our first dandelion of the season.
With that in mind, let's get to it.

The Boston Red Sox are, to us fans, a baseball team but in reality, they are one of the many divisions of the Fenway Sports Group. As a matter of fact, when the Red Sox announced that Theo Epstein was rejoining the Fenway Sports Group, they called the Red Sox the "baseball division".

Fenway Sports Group has several divisions. There is the motor racing division (Roush Racing), the hockey division (Pittsburgh Penguins), the golf division (Boston Common Golf), the soccer division (Liverpool Football Club), the television division (New England Sports Network) and the marketing division (Fenway Sports Marketing).

In other words, baseball is just one of the many things John Henry and his minions are involved with and as far as they are concerned, winning isn't the main thing for a sports team. Making money for Henry is the main thing for a sports team. As long as the baseball division makes him money, he is happy.

As a result of that attitude, he has throttled back the budget allocated to the baseball division and as such, they have managed to lose existing high-end players in free agency and they have failed to hire high-end players who were free agents from other teams.

Well, yesterday John Henry decided that the problem with the Red Sox isn't his tightwad approach to player salaries, it was the manager's fault. More specifically, there is some speculation in the media that an argument between Cora and Breslow occurred at some point over the status of one Pete Fatse, the Red Sox hitting coach. Rumor has it that Breslow wanted Fatse gone and Cora said no. This resulted in a face off that ended in not only Fatse being fired but Cora and everyone loyal to him being shown the door.

I have no idea if that speculation is true but I do know the result and I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. I've been ranting about the fact they can't hit and it was time to get rid of Fatse so I'm kinda glad about that but I guess I didn't expect the rest of the staff to get tossed as well.

If I ever had the chance to ask Breslow one question it would be, "Of all the potential and available baseball managers, who is better than Cora?" Nothing against Chad Tracy but I'm pretty sure he isn't a better manager than Cora.

As for the team itself, they played game 3 of their 3-game series against the Orioles. First pitch was at 1:35 this afternoon and Early had the start.

Early faced 24 batters over 6⅔ innings. He gave up two runs while walking 1 and striking out 4.

In the end, the Red Sox won the game 5-3, winning the series and staying out of last place in the AL.

For the first time in either of his terms as President, Dementia Donny decided he was going to attend the WHite House Correspondents Dinner. He probably should have stayed home because as soon as everyone got seated and the speechifying started up, some nutcase with guns and knives decided to make a run at the place.

He made it as far as a lobby on the wrong floor before being taken down by the Secret Service. Apparently one of the agents was shot by the aforementioned nutcase but fortunately he was wearing his vest and will survive with some nasty bruising and maybe some cracked ribs.

As I have often said to my friends and relatives in the world of law enforcement, "Keep your head on a swivel, watch each others backs and for cripes sake, wear your damned vest".

Oh, and this is at least the third time someone has made a run at Trump. I know he thinks everyone loves him so I wonder if he is worried about these ongoing attacks. Or does he believe that it isn't possible that anyone could actually hate him for what he is.

The Massachusetts Republicans, a group of people who honestly believe they stand a chance of winning in the political environment known as "liberal-land", met in Worcester and they picked a bald white guy as their candidate for Governor.

I really don't care who he is. What I will do is vote for him as long as he makes some effort to end the insane state agenda of charging us a lot of money for gas and electricity in the hopes we'll all jump on some ultra-expensive solar bandwagon.

Exciting news here at our world headquarters - The hummingbirds have returned.

At 10:00 this morning, I happened to look out back at the hummingbird feeders and saw a little blur that settled into a red-throated hummingbird.

At 1:00 this afternoon, my wife announced that she saw a dandelion in the back yard. I got my handy-dandy-dandylion stabber out of the shed and stabbed five dandelions out of my back yard.

What this all really means is that summer is fast approaching and I should clean my air conditioners so they are ready to go in the windows before it gets to be 90° with 90% humidity...

And no, I didn't forget the Bruins.

They got their ass kicked 6-1 by the Sabres and are going back to Buffalo down 3-1 in the best-of-seven series.

Yet another of my sporting teams that are in full suck mode...
