Looks like Devers will be around for a bit

Rumors are flying that the Red Sox signed Devers to an eleven year contract. This is a good thing because that kid is young (26) and he plays some pretty good baseball.

Hopefully he stays healthy and productive for at least six of those eleven years. I say that because it is inevitable that he will be injured during the season(s) and on some occasions, those injuries may take him out of the game for months at a time.

The best thing about this is if he can maintain his ability to hit the ball, he will be able to make the transition from 3rd base to designated hitter as he ages.

Also, this shows me that the Red Sox are trying to remain competitive and they will hopefully get back to being a premier ball team once again.

I went over to the 'rona testing site this morning and got myself tested. I'm hoping that I get a call or an email tomorrow that says I am negative. The Professor tested negative the other day but I don't really trust those home tests. After looking at the one I took the other day, I'm still not sure I tested positive. It was pretty unclear to me.

Like I said, this is our second time round testing positive for covid. It doesn't have a big impact on either of us, mostly just runny noses and headaches, but it's still a pain in the ass. Neither one of us wants to risk giving it someone who might end up in distress because of it.

Sounds like the Bills player, Damar Hamlin, is improving.

I'm going to watch some DVRs and fall asleep.

I really hate our political system

Please note that I do not hate our system of government, I just really hate our political system.

The democrats are conniving little sneaks who can't come up with a good candidate even when there are good candidates available to them. They manipulate and lie to make themselves sound like saints when in reality, they are back-stabbing self-centered arrogant snobs.

The republicans are inbred religious zealots without a lick of sense who had every opportunity to win not only the house and the senate but the presidency as well. Instead, they are shooting themselves in the face and handing the democrats another opportunity to preach about how great they are.

I found this on the interwebs today and I have no reason to believe it is fake:

You know what I want? I want someone who is around 50 years old, has common sense, good ethical behavior, a modicome of intelligence, has never taken a picture of their gun collection, is concerned about everyone, including the middle-class working stiffs, has never bragged about their sexual preferences and doesn't pray to an invisible friend before they make any decisions to run for office.

I don't care if their white, black, male, female, republican, democrat, straight or queer as long as they are human and will look out for me and my family.

In other political news, today is Charlie Baker's last day as our governor. As far as I'm concerned, he was a great governor and I wish he would run for president.

Maura "I used to be attorney general but now I'm the boss!" Healey will be sworn in tomorrow and I suspect she will immediately begin to make it more difficult to legally own a firearm. in this state.

It's what she does.

I can't wait to see the love letters that the Globe writes about her because they think she is the best thing to happen to the commonwealth since John Kennedy. As far as they are concerned, she could murder a homeless orphan on the Boston Commons in broad daylight in front of 50 witnesses and they would write a story saying we shouldn't jump to conclusions until all the facts were in and also the orphan was once arrested for stealing bread so it was probably his fault.

I'll buy a ticket when it reaches a billion...

I found this on the internets this morning and I thought it described my life perfectly:

My evening will consist of watching youtubes on the laptop and probably some Dirty Jobs on the DVR.

Your evening can consist of whatever you want it to consist of.

Not a good day for the Bills

I was watching the football last night when a Bills defensive player named Damar Hamlin tackled a Bengals player. It was a pretty hard hit on both players and they both went down.

Hamlin got back up and stood for about a second then tumbled backwards to the ground. Everyone around him, including the ref, started waving at the sidelines and the trainers rushed out. At some point, they started doing CPR on him.

Now I'm no doctor but I do know that you do not do CPR on someone who has a heartbeat. That tells me he had no heartbeat.

Football is a tough game and I've seen some nasty injuries over the years but I've never seen a guy drop dead after a hit.

For the record, the CPR was successful and he is currently in the hospital. No one is saying much about him because I'm pretty sure no one knows a lot right now.

We are starting the new year off like it's still the old year:
I'm never going to be able to retire...

Dinner will be The Professors famous chicken/broccolli puff pastry.

Another win

The Bruins came from behind to beat the Penguins 2-1 this afternoon. The game was played outdoors at Fenway and despite temps in the upper 40s, it looked like the ice managed to remain mostly ice for the entire game.

They are heading out west for games against the Kings, the Sharks and the Ducks. The first two games start at 10:30 so you know I won't be watching those games. The third game is slated to face off at 8:30 so I might get to see a couple of periods.

They'll be back in the eastern time zone on the 12th which means the games will be payed at a decent hour.

On another note about todays hockey game, I listened to one of the best renditions of our National Anthem performed by a trio of guys I've never heard of. They were backed up by the Bosston Pops so I suppose even if they sucked it would have sounded pretty good. But they didn't suck.

They were introduced as "Boston's own Bell Biv DeVoe" and they sang the anthem like it was meant to be sung, without any "artistic" changes or screw-ups.

Oh, and those two jets that flew overhead at the end of that video more than likely originated at Barnes in Westfield.
I loved watching those guys take off and land when I was flying. That picture is a screen capture from a video I took while waiting to depart back in April of 2021.

I'm going to watch some of the Bills/Bengals game and fall asleep early.

And just like that, it's 2023.

I am, to be honest with you, amazed I made it to to see 2023. Hell, I was kinda shocked I made it to 2013.

I don't come from a long-lived family...

I get the best spam:

I hate to disappoint young Mr. Bruce but I'm afraid he's not going get a swift response or a quick audience.

For the record, we ended 2022 by testing positive for covid.

Again.

This is second time we've tested positive since the 'rona pandemic started and I'm pretty sure it's the third time we've had it.

So anyways, the Professor tested again this morning and she is now negative. I'm assuming I'm negative as well but on Tuesday, depending on how I feel, I'm gonna swing by the AMR testing sight and get a real test just to make sure.

I have no worries about covid doing anything bad to me. What I worry about is giving it to somebody who might have some condition like asthma or something that could result in their death.

I don't want to kill anyone.

The Patriots beat the Dolphins 20-23 this afternoon. That means they have a ultra sim chance of making the wild card next week if they can beat the Bills.

Do I think they can beat the Bills? Yes, I do think they can beat them. Anyone can beat anyone because football is a game of ever-changing strategies with a liberal sprinkling of luck.

Do I think they will beat the Bills? No, I don't think they are playing good enough to beat the number one team in the AFC. Particularly since the game is in Buffalo.

I'm going to watch the Seahawks beat up on the Jets (Seahawks currently lead 10-3 in the 1st quarter), knocking the Jets out of the playoff picture. Also, at some point this evening, I'm going to eat some dinner.
