Have we been sequestered yet?

When is the media going to stop using the verb "sequester" as a noun? Do even know what sequester means?

Sequester (verb)
  1. to remove or separate.
  2. to retire into seclusion.
  3. to take temporarily out of the possession of its owner, esp until the claims of creditors are satisfied or a court order is complied with.
  4. international law to requisition or appropriate (enemy property).
I'm not entirely sure how cuts to government spending fit into any of the above definitions.
