You live in the desert. Expect it to be dry and arid. The only reason you have water at all is because William Mulholland built an aqueduct from a river in the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the Los Angeles basin.
I would like to feel bad for you but I find it hard to have any sympathy for people that chose to live in a seismically active desert that occasionally bursts into flame.
