They got swept.

It looked like they were gonna win todays game. They scored 4 runs in the first inning and the Yankees scored 2 runs in the second inning. It stayed that until the seventh inning when the Yankees decided they needed score 9 runs.

The Red Sox tried but they never really recovered and the game ended with the Yankees winning 12-8

And that, my friends, is all I have to say about that.

What a bizarre baseball game.

The Yankees beat the Red Sox this afternoon but it was absolutely one of the weirdest games I've ever watched.

The Yankees were up first and they hit the ball a ton, chasing Porcello from the game after 1/3 of an inning. When the Red Sox finally got that third out, the score was 6-0

The Red Sox came up to bat and proceeded to hit the ball a ton, chasing Tanaka from the game after 2/3 of an inning. When the Yankees finally got the third out, the score was 6-6.

And that was just the first inning.

Then, in the third inning, the wheels came off and the Yankees went on a scoring binge. By the time the fifth inning ended, the score was 17-6.

Then, at the end of the seventh inning, the score was 17-13 and that was how the game ended after 4:42 minutes of play.

By the way, the current record for a 9 inning baseball game is 4:45 minutes. This game was just 3 minutes short of that record.

No webinars today

I actually got home on time and didn't have to do anything extra this evening. That means I got to surf the webernets and find some news. Also found some links.

I discovered that there is some kind of soccer games going on. I understand the women are winning.

Sorry.

I had a two hour webinar tonight on FAA designated air space.

I know, sounds exciting, right? Don't you wish you could sit and listen to two guys drone on about FAA designated air space?

It wasn't as bad as I make it sound. I learned a lot, including that fact that I have a pretty good handle on air space.

Problem is I didn't have any time to surf for many links.

Another win last night...

...but a loss this afternoon.

They won two of three against the White Sox and now they are off for two days. They will be traveling to London tomorrow and enjoy a day off on Friday before taking on the Yankees on Saturday and Sunday.

I hope they win at least one of the games against the Yankees.

I was off today and I managed to get some things done. Aside from mowing the lawn, I spent some time brushing The Dog.

I don't want to say he is shedding a lot but when I was done, I had a second dog's worth of fur.

Time for me to make some dinner and then fall asleep watching bad television.

They won!

It wasn't a pretty win but the Red Sox managed to beat the White Sox 6-5 last night.

Throughout the game, the score was tied or theWhite Sox were in the lead. It was until the bottom of the ninth inning that the Red Sox took the lead, and won the game.

Hey, a win is a win. Let's hope they have another one tonight.

Sorry for the late post but I spent several hours working online with my daughter trying to get a goddamned printer installed.

Why is it so hard to get a printer to work for cripes sake? This should be a simple turn it on and make it go thing.

My industry sucks at usability.

The White Sox are in town

The White Sox don't suck as bad as the Blue Jays but they still suck and I'm hoping the Red Sox don't suck at all.

Rodriguez is pitching tonight and he's been on somewhat of a good streak, pitching well and getting run support. Hopefully that streak continues tonight.

Kind of a busy day today. Despite the fact it's summer there are still a lot of things going on on campus and things were happening that generated a lot of phone calls and concerns. Mostly a lot of, "I got this notice from so-and-so and I'm pretty certain it's a scam. What should I do?"

I tell them to delete it, forget about it and go enjoy the rest of their day.

They seem happy with that advice.

I'm going to watch some baseball.

They appear to be in full suck mode

The Red Sox lost yesterday and they lost again today.

They lost because they suck.

Pitching sucks and hitting sucks.

Suck, suck, suck....

Hopefully they stop sucking soon and get back on the winning track because losing a series to the Blue Jays is like losing to a little league team. Not the best way to spend three days....

The great cat visit was very successful. The Dog did not eat her and she did not claw The Dogs face off.

She also did not die or escape, as my wife feared she might, and my son was happy when he showed up to collect her and bring her back home to New Hampshire.

They went from "cake walk" to "fight for survival"

The Red Sox were up 6-1 until the seventh inning when the Blue Jays decided to hit two home runs in a row and a couple of singles. Now the score is 6-6 in the eighth.

I really hope they don't blow this game.

Our youngest is at a wedding this evening and my wife has temporary possession of his cat.

I'm pretty sure this is going to lead to her eventually getting a cat.

Or two.

Late post

I got home a little later than I normally do and I didn't have a lot of time to surf the internets.

The Red Sox are down 4-0 in the 3rd inning and it's not looking good for Chris Sale. He seems to be pitching like crap. I really hope he's not going to end up on the DL.

I'm amazed.

The Red Sox took two games from the league leading Twins and that makes me very, very happy.

I'm amazed that they won two of three games against the Twins because the Twins are a really good team. And with those two wins, they are now 6 games over .500.

Now they are heading back to Boston where tomorrow they will start a three game series against the Blue Jays. After that it will be a three game series against the White Sox. Then they head to London where they will "host" the Yankees for two games.

Why they are going to London to play baseball is beyond me. The Saturday game will be played at 1:00pm EDT but the Sunday game will be played at 10:00am EDT.

The church people are gonna be upset...

I can't stand it when it gets hot and humid. That is when I lock myself away in an air conditioned room and try my best to never go outside.

This is just humid and I'm getting a little tired of being sticky and clammy.

Our eldest informed us today that he is indeed still immune to measles.

I realize that is a weird thing to say but to us, it's a great thing.

When he was 21 years old, he was diagnosed with lymphoma and went through chemotherapy. His oncologist let him know that his chemotherapy was probably going to reset his immune system. With the recent outbreak of measles, we encouraged him to get tested so he did., He was informed today that he is still immune to measles.

It would be a real kick in the testicles to live through a stage 4 cancer diagnosis only to end up dying from a childhood disease being spread by a bunch of anti-vaxxer assholes.

No baseball tonight so I'll probably catch up on DVRs.

Guess who logged an hour in the pattern today

The weather, the availability of a plane and my days off finally came together so that I was able to fly for an hour+ today. It was interesting because there was a little bit of a gusty cross wind. It wasn't a strong wind, maybe 7 or 8 knots but it was gusting. The wind was particularly fun coming off the ridge known as the Holyoke Range.

I managed to get in 6 full stop landings along with some pattern entry work. I have to admit to being a bit rusty and my landings weren't the best but they were acceptable.

I need to practice more often.

The Red Sox and the Twins played 17 innings of baseball last night with the Twins walking off 4-3.

Rodriguez is pitching tonight and I'm hoping they win.

I'm also hoping the Red Sox look into a contract extension for Brock Holt. His contract is up at the end of this year and it would be a shame if he were to go play elsewhere.

Here are todays links:

I am happy

I said if the Red Sox won one of the three games against the Twins I would be happy. Well, they won last night, beating the league-leading Twins 2-0.

Porcello pitched a hell of a game. There were a few innings where there were 2 men on base but he was able to pitch out of those and no member of the Twins was able to step on home plate.

Game two is tonight at 8:00 and I'll let you know tomorrow if I'm amazed.

The humidity is making everything feel sticky and there isn't a thing I can do about it. I put my air conditioners in this weekend but the temps are too low to even think about running them.

Just have to deal with the sticky I guess.

I heard from Pat today. Seems he is still vertical and taking nourishment. He is also still rebuilding/upgrading his computers.

Here are the statistics for this pablum for the last week:

As you can see, Chrome is falling behind in the browser wars. They are falling behind for one simple reason - resource utilization.

My little laptop gets toasty warm and it kicks on several times when I'm using chrome to surf the interwebs.

Might be time to switch back to Firefox.

More importantly, why are there 300+visitors to this web page every week? Don't you people have anything else to do? It's not like this is interesting or anything. It's a bunch of bullshit slung by a guy with 10 minutes of free time everyday.

If I entertain you, good. If not, oh well. I don't really care either way.

The Red Sox swept the Orioles and are now five games above .500. This is a good thing because tonight they start a three game series against the the Twins, the number one team in the MLB.

I'll be happy if they win at least one of the games. I'll be amazed if they win two of the games. I'll be flabbergasted if they win all three of the games.

I'm hoping for flabbergasted but would like to at least be happy.

Nice day to get the yard work done

I had some bushes that were overtaking my side yard and I don't mean by a little. I'm gonna estimate that at least 10 feet of my side yard was hidden under these things.

Thanks to my trusty hedge trimmer I was able to cut them back to a reasonable size and haul all the lumber into the woods.

After that it was time to mow the lawn and all I have to say is I'll be glad when the freakin pollen is over with. I looked like that kid from The Peanuts they called Pig Pen only it wasn't dust that was swirling around me, it was tree sperm.

The Red Sox beat the Orioles last night and right now, they are leading 4-2 in the 8th inning.

The Yankees and the Rays have been on a losing streak so the Red Sox are not only improving their win/lose record, they are gaining ground on the ALEast leaders. Assuming the win today, they will be 5 games behind the Yankees and the Rays.

I really hope they win.

Long Day = Short Post

Okay, it really wasn't a long day. I left my office on time but then stopped for some beverages.

Now the Red Sox are on.

That means no post tonight.

Deal with it....

Congratulations to Jordan Binnington

Binnington is the goalie for the St Louis Blues and he is the reason the Blues won the Stanley Cup last night. That guy was under a constant barrage of shots during the first period and he was making saves like he was some kind of cartoon character.

The Red Sox won last night, avoiding the dreaded sub-500 record. Porcello pitched a good game but Barnes got the win because the he was pitcher on the mound when the winning run crossed the plate in the ninth.

As for tonight, it looks like the weather may cooperate. Rain is on its way but it won't get to Fenway until after 11:00.

Price is on the mound for tonights game and he has been very good lately. Hopes are high that he continues pitching well and they win tonights game, splitting the 4-game series 2-2.

We had our division cookout today so I don't need to make any food.

Do not get expanding foam on your hands

I got some low-density expanding foam to fill a gap under the threshold of our back door. While I was smart enough to tape off the area around the gap and put plastic sheet on the new porch rug, I did not remember to put my TSA gloves on.

For the record, I have a box of those blue latex gloves that the TSA people wear when you are going through security. Hence the name TSA gloves.

So anyway, the rug was protected, the wall was protected and the threshold was protected but my hands were not.

The best way to describe low-density expanding foam is to imagine gelatinized super glue. It is thick and extremely sticky. And when you get it on your hands, it does not come off.

The directions claim that acetone will dissolve it. Don't believe them. Once that crap hardens, you need sandpaper to take it off your fingers.

It does a great job filling gaps though.

Had lunch with the old retired guys today and Jimmy showed up with his hand-built Cobra.

I am not a car guy and normally I could care less about cars but this is a beautiful piece of machinery. He built it over a period of 10 years and to say he was meticulous is an understatement. Everything about it is near-perfect.

He is proud as hell of it and he really enjoyed showing it off to us.

The Red Sox/Rangers are currently tied 3-3 in the eighth inning. They really, really need to win this game.

They are currently at .500 and if they lose they will have a losing record.

They are too good to have a losing record.

Tonight is the night.

Game 7 of the Stanley Cup will be played at 8:00 and I will try to stay awake to watch the whole game.

I doubt I'll make it but I'll try.

The suckage is getting worse.

Despite Sale pitching a stellar 7 innings and leaving the game with a 2-1 lead. the bullpen gave it up and the game ended up tied in the ninth 3-3. The batters couldn't do anything and in the eleventh inning, the Rangers took a one run lead and won the game.

They are now one game away from .500. If they lose tonight, they will have a .500 record and be in danger of dropping to a losing record.

They really need to win tonight.

I'm gonna go make some burgers and then watch some baseball.

There will be a game seven.

Tuukka Rask played better than any goalie I've ever seen play.

I only got to watch 2 periods of play and when I fell asleep, the score was 1-0 in the favor of the Bruins. The reason it was 1-0 was because Rask was a wall on the crease. He seemed to know where the puck was going before it left the shooters stick.

He was making stops that no one should have been able to make. He was a miracle worker. If he was eligible to run, I would vote for him for President.

After I fell asleep, the Bruins decided to start scoring goals and when I woke up, I found the game had ended with a score of 5-1 in favor of the Bruins.

The Red Sox need to start winning some games or they are gonna end up below .500. They are currently at .515 which is only two games above .500

They start a four game series against the Rangers this evening before heading down to Baltimore to play the Orioles.

Enjoy these links while I agonize over the Red Sox game:

The suckage continues

They won last night but last this afternoon.

The Bruins better win tonight....

My daughter and her little angel are safely back in Iowa, ready to start her second rotation. This time it's Canine Rehab. Apparently there is a pool and a small treadmill involved.

She will be on constant rotations until October so I won't see her until then. Her mom will be making a couple of trips out there to help her out with things when she has rotations that have odd shifts or on-call duties.

I'm going to make my lunch for tomorrow and then settle in to watch at least two periods of hockey. Then I will wake up tomorrow to find out if the Bruins stayed alive or if the Blues are the Stanley Cup champions.

Well this sucks...

The Red Sox lost last night and then lost again this afternoon. They have their makeup game at 6:00 this evening and they really, really need to win tonight.

Price is on the mound but I don't think pitching is their problem. They just don't seem to be hitting the ball. It seems like they all want to hit home runs which means a lot of the time, they are simply flying out.

They need to step on home plate more times than their opponent.

75 years is a long time

Not long enough for us to forget the thousands of kids from a lot of countries who gave their lives so that a lot of people could go on to lead happy, free lives.

Thank you doesn't quite cut it but it's all I got.

Thank You.

The Red Sox swept the Royals and are now only 6 games behind the first place Yankees.

Tomorrow they are back in Boston to start a 4 game (3 game + a rain-out makeup from April) against the Rays. The last time they played, the Rays won two of the three games with the third game being postpones to this week. The time before, the Red Sox won all three games.

Basically, the Red Sox have won 3 of the last 5 games. Hopefully they win all 4 of the upcoming games.

The Yankees, by the way, are 3 games into a losing streak and I kind of hope that continues.

Hockey will be played at 8:00 tonight and it looks like Chara won't be playing because he got hit in the face with a puck during the last game and it broke his jaw. With Chara out, the other players are going to have to step up and take the game to the Blues.

The series is tied 2-2 and according to the big-headed sports statisticians, the winner of game 5 goes on to win the series 72% of the time.

Then again, these are probably the same big-headed statisticians who said Hillary Rodham would win the election in 2016.

Summer hours have begun

During the summer, the college changes our hours from 37.5 per week to 34.0 per week, giving us a half day off. Then they say that if we want to work an extra hour per day for four days, instead of taking a half day off, we can take the whole day off.

For me, that extra hour a day is nothing since I usually work an extra hour or two every day anyways.

For the summer, I take every Wednesday off. It's nice - I work two day, have a day off, work two days, have two days off.

Maybe I might actually get some flying in.

At 5:30 this morning, I discovered that the Red Sox won last night and I'm hoping that tomorrow morning I discover that they won again tonight.

These 8:00 games are on until 11:30 and I cannot stay awake that late.

Not much else to prattle on about today.

Here are some links:

The Bruins lost

It was an extremely physical hockey game. Ogie Oglethorpe did not show up but there was still blood.

The series is now tied 2-2 and the series returns to Boston on Thursday. You can bet that game will also result in some red ice.

The Red Sox play the Royals at 8:00 tonight. The Royals have been in a slump lately and are one of the worst teams in the AL. Only the Orioles have a worst record. I'm hoping they stay that way and the Red Sox sweep them.

If the Red Sox win all three games, they will be four games over .500 at .532.

I'll be okay with that.

The gambler guy on Jeopardy lost last night (well, actually he lost back in March but they showed the game on TV last night) and it appears he lost because he failed to recognize that his opponents had been paying attention to his style of play.

They played exactly like him and they gambled big. Amazingly enough, the winner was a librarian who bet it all in final Jeopardy while he played it conservatively.

Now what are the talking heads on the national news networks going to talk about now that he's gone?

Here are todays links:

Monday, June 3, 2019

They are still above .500

The Red Sox managed to hold off the Yankees and avoid the sweep by winning last night's game with a score of 8-5.

They are on an off-day today while they travel to Missouri where they will play a three game series against the Royals. I'm really hoping the Red Sox win all three games against the struggling Royals because they need the wins.

While there is no baseball tonight, there is hockey.

Game 4 of the best of seven Stanley Cup finals is tonight and the Bruins lead the series 2-1. A win tonight puts them one game away from winning the cup.

I gotta tell you, this is some seriously good old-time hockey. The Blues are statistically a big team with the average player height somewhere around 6' 2", 205 pounds. Stand them up against the Bruins with an average height of 6' 0", 195 pounds and you can see why it's a physical game.

The Blues are trying to use their height and weight advantage against the Bruins but the Bruins aren 't having it. They are playing hard & fast and the hits look like something out of the movie Slap Shot.

I keep waiting for Ogie Oglethorpe to skate out onto the ice.

I'm going to get ready for a hockey game.

I'd like to say I was busy

but I can't. This post is late because I'm forgetful.

The Red Sox are playing like shit. Again.

They are at .500 as I type this and if they lose tonight, they'll drop below .500. In my world, that is bad. If you are losing more games than you are winning, you are going to start your vacation in late September.

Right now they are up 6-2 over the Yankees but it's the Yankees - they hit the ball a lot and they will score runs. The Red Sox need to continue stepping on home plate if they want to win.

I checked with my sister in North Carolina. She is not the winner of Powerball.

Oh well.

Too late for links.

No post tonight

Due to the distances involved and everyones schedules, usually the only time all three of our children are with us is when some event is taking place like a wedding, a funeral or a holiday.

Today we were all able to get together for a very nice day.

That means there is no posting because I was busy enjoying myself immensely.
