Severe head jammage

During yesterdays cleaning event, my job was sweeping the garage and the basement. Sounds simple, right?

I must have swept up 50 pounds of cement dust along 60 years of detritus, sawdust, various hazard waste powders and God only knows what. I woke up this morning with a vicious headache and sinuses that felt like that 50 pounds of cement dust had solidified in them.

And for the record, I wore one of those paper filter masks.

Talk about a waste of time.

I would have been better off with a cloth tied across my face.

So know that I've gone through half a box of kleenex and 4 ibuprofen, I'm ready to watch some baseball.

Cleaning is underway

My wife had to go into work today but this afternoon we headed over to the now empty house and started the process of cleaning. There is no way my wife is going to sell a dirty house. It's not her style.

She has also started the process of looking for a real estate agent which is actually harder than you think.

Some of these people are kinda slimy and some of them are convinced they could sell snowballs to an eskimo in November when really they couldn't sell lemonade to a lawn crewe in August.

She just wants to find someone who can sell her moms house without a lot of fanfare and without screwing her financially. She's got a few names so hopefully she finds the right one.

The Red Sox finally managed to win one of the three games against the Rays.

Tomorrow they start a three game series against the Royals and then it's off to Texas for a four game series against the Rangers.

Now I'm going to spend a few hours watching bad television and then going to bed early. My hands and back hurt from all that sweeping/cleaning/dragging/hauling so I'm hoping for a good nights sleep.

Phase 3 is now complete

There are now several large pieces of furniture in my basement and a different bed in one of the bedrooms.

My mother-in-laws house is now mostly empty. There is, I believe, one bag of trash and a small pile of hazardous waste that we are trying to figure out how to get rid of. It's mostly old paints and cleaners but it's still not stuff you want to toss into the landfill.

Once the final cleaning is done and the waste is gone, it will be realtor time.

It will also be time for my wife to fly out to Iowa and drive home with my daughter & the Small Emergency Backup Dog.

This will officially put my daughter at the mid-point of her four year DVM program. When she heads back in the fall, she will start her third year.

The Red Sox managed to lose last night. Pomeranz did not pitch well and he gave up three home runs. The hitters did not hit well either and the game ended with the Rays winning 4-3.

Todays game is not going too well either. Price pitched okay. Not great, just okay. And the hitters kinda suck. And the fielding could use a little help.

All in all, kind of a crappy day for the Red Sox.

Phase 2 is complete

The dumpster has been filled and removed. That means all the "stuff" no one wanted is gone. This also means the basement is empty, the shed is empty and the garage is empty.

Phase 3 commences tomorrow, That's when we have all of the stuff someone wanted shipped over to our house. I'm not sure

The Red Sox won last night, taking 2 of the 3 games. As long as they keep winning series, they will stay on top of the pile.

Tonight they take on the Rays in Fenway. The weather looks interesting so it's probably going to be a delayed start.

Bill Cosby has been found guilty of sexual assault.

Okay, so he's a creep but damn, he's still funny as hell.

Krazy Kim the Third met up with the president of South Korea (whoever that is) and everyone is calling it historic.

I would like to remind everyone that Krazy Kim kills people with anti-aircraft guns. He's not what I would call a stable individual.

We'll see how historic this meeting turns out to be.

Early but short post

We are continuing the task of clearing out my mother-in-laws house and today was phase 1 of what I call the "Final Phase".

Tomorrow will be phase 2 of the final phase and Saturday will be phase 3 of the final phase.

Once the final phase is complete, we will enter into what I will call the "All The Stuff We Forgot In The Other Phases Phase".

Soon this will end and we will move on with the rest of the stuff in our lives.

Also, there is baseball tonight.

Speaking of baseball, the Red Sox managed to win last night. This is a three game series and each team has one win.

Hopes are high they are going to win tonight because Sale is pitching and it looks like the hitters have remembered what their bats are for.

It's great to win a series.

Three losses in a row

They lost again last night when the Blue Jays managed to hit a tie-breaking home run in the 10th.

They need to start hitting the ball again. Pitching has been outstanding but they just aren't hitting the ball well. And if you all remember correctly, that was the problem they seemed to have last season as well.

They need to step on home plate more than the other team.

I'm hoping tonight is a different story.

While I watch the Red Sox hopefully beat the crap out of the Blue Jays, you can see if these links contain any information you might be interested in:

Another long day

I haven't been sleeping well lately for two reasons:
  1. Late baseball games
  2. Falling asleep on the couch
The late baseball games triggered this problem because I was trying to stay awake but I would fall asleep on the couch. Then I would wake up at midnight or 1:00, go to bed and not be able to fall back to sleep.

I'm hoping to watch several innings of baseball tonight since the game is on at 7:00 but we'll have to see how that goes.

They lost in style

Not only did the Red Sox lose last night, they got no-hit.

I watched that game and I was amazed at how good the Athletics pitcher was pitching and at how poorly the Red Sox batters were hitting. Add to that the fact that Sale had a very rare bad day and you get a no-hitter.

They lost again today but not in style.

The Athletics got a run in the first and the game stayed 0-1 until the seventh when the Red Sox finally got a run and tied the game.

Unfortunately, the Athletics had other ideas and they hit a 3 run homer in the eighth to take 4-1 lead.

And that, my friends, is how the game ended.

Oh well, they still have the best record in the league and I still think they will perform far better than anyone else over the course of the season.

We continue the process of cleaning my mother-in-law house out and getting ready to put it on the market. Yesterday was all the rugs and several pieces of old furniture.

As a result of all that rolling, pushing, lifting and hauling, my hands hurt, my back hurts and my legs hurt.

We are close to completion and just about ready to get the dumpster. After that, my wife will find a realtor and we will put it in their hands. Hopefully it will be in someone else's hands come June or July.

The one thing that I have learned over the last several months is that I do not want my children to go through this. We're starting the process of throwing things away at our house so that come time for us to move on, all our kids will hopefully need to do is visit us once in a while.

I got a little "wordy" today.

ESPN sucks and I'll tell you why.

The Boston Red Sox are currently the best team in the MLB.

They are playing baseball better than anyone expected them to play and they are leading the league in wins, runs scored, run differential and win streak. They have more grand slams, more hits, best team bating average and best on-base percentage. Their team ERA is second in the league (just a touch below the Astros) with fewer games played.

In other words, they are playing some amazing baseball. The New York Aaron Judges staring Giancarlo however are failing miserably.

Everyone predicted the Judges would be the team that led the league in every statistic. Their batters were going to hit more home runs than every team combined since baseball was first played, their pitchers would be throwing 200 mph fast balls, their fielders would make 15 foot high leaping catches and throw the ball in from center field to home plate with chest-high accuracy.

Last night, the Boston Red Sox beat the Oakland Athletics 7-3, giving them a 17-2 record. The New York Aaron Judges starring Giancarlo lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 8-5, giving them a 9-9 record.

This was ESPNs webpage at 6:30 this morning:

The only mention of the Red Sox on that page is in the section labeled "Favorites" which is a section that gets populated based on what stories I have clicked on in the past.

Look, I know that the Red Sox won't continue with this streak and I know the Yankees will eventually get hot but dammit, if you are going sell yourself as the premier national sporting news site, you should at least have the ability to report on all teams equally.

I suspect that the Steinbrenner's may be the principal owners of ESPN which means that organization is not an unbiased national sports reporting organization.

As for today's Red Sox game, it's on at 9:00 this evening so I might be able to watch more than 2 innings.

Two thoughts come to mind when I read this:
  1. Krazy Kim the Third is full of shit.
  2. The Democrats, NBC News, The Washington Post, The New York Times, etc... are gonna have a freakin' heart attack if Trump settles the 70 year long Korean Conflict.
I'm expecting the first but I'm hoping for the second.

This woman is a freakin' nutcase.

She has developed a deep hatred for anyone who is not her and if I were the state of California, I would fire her fat ass. Then I would ask the federal government to look into her behavior and possibly charge her with terroristic activities and/or hate crimes.

We do not need people like her living amongst us. She is the type who will make a pressure cooker bomb and set it off in some crowded mall or restaurant.

And for the record, if those "free speech advocates" (whatever those are) are going to defend her right to incite and spew hatred like that, they better be ready to defend the redneck right to wave their ignorant confederate flag and shout derogatory names. They better be ready to defend the white supremacist who tosses the nazi salute in people faces and holds KKK rallies.

We do not live in a country where free speech is allowed anymore. Liberals and social justice warriors have seen to it that free speech is a thing of the past. Stop defending her "right to say what she wants" because that right went out the window the day someone decided that I was not allowed to say the "N" word.

Guess who was able to enter some flight time into his logbook today.

This guy!

I spent just about 3/4 of an hour getting my ass kicked in the plane this afternoon.

I did 3 touch & gos and 2 full stop landings in what can best be described as "sporty" conditions.

The wind was straight down the runway so I didn't have any crosswind issues but it was blowing at 12 knots with gusts to 20 knots. And that 12 knots as the average sustained rate. Sometimes it was zero, sometimes it was 20.

Trust me, landing a plane in a 20 knot headwind is great right up until that wind suddenly dies to 0 knots. That's when your 60 knot forward airspeed drops to 40 knots.

Planes don't fly at 40 knots. They become stones at 40 knots and I end up with a pucker factor of 9 as the plane suddenly starts to make a dive to the runway. All you can do is apply some power, pull back on the yoke a bit and pray that's enough to stop the descent.

Also, since the wind was blowing between 0 and 20 knots, the plane was bouncing all over the place when I was at or above pattern altitude.

In other words, I'm glad I flew today but it wasn't a nice day to fly.

These west coast trips are killing me

I wanted to watch a few innings of baseball so I turned the game on at 10:00 last night and then laid down on my couch.

Next thing I knew it was 11:00, the two innings I wanted to watch had turned into 4 innings, it was 3-1 Red Sox and I up was way past my bedtime.

I went to bed secure in my belief that the Red Sox would sweep the Angels and firmly convinced that I was going to be exhausted today.

I was right on both counts.

Tonight they start a three game series against the Athletics. The game starts at 10:00 but since tomorrow is Saturday, I should be able to watch a few innings without having to worry about getting up early.

And for the record, the Athletics aren't all that good so I'm hoping the Red Sox sweep this series.

I'm going to leave you with these links:

Something odd is afoot

I'm beginning to think there is some kind of magic being worked here.

The Red Sox are currently at 15-2. They not only have the best record in the all of the MLB, they also have the greatest number of runs scored (108) and the highest run differential (+60).

At some point, the baseball gods are going to smite them, but for now, they are playing some fantastic baseball.

Here are a few links you might find interesting:

So much for the highly praised phenom from Japan

Mookie Betts is the Red Sox lead-off batter. This meant he was the first one to face Shohei Ohtani last night. It took only seven pitches for young Mr. Betts to figure out that young Mr. Ohtani is just another pitcher and he crushed a 3-2 pitch over the center field wall.

This was how last nights ball game started and, from what I understand (I fell asleep), it continued that way throughout the game with the Red Sox beating the Angels 10-1.

They are playing some pretty damned good baseball right now and this is a good thing because at some point, they will slump. Building a big lead in the standings now will hopefully give them the buffer they need when that slump happens.

Also, it's fun to watch them when they are playing this well. Even if I only get to watch two or three innings before I fall asleep.

So I watched baseball last night and fell asleep around 10:45. Then I woke up at 11:45 and went to bed but I couldn't fall back to sleep. That means I'm tired and I doubt I'll be awake to see any baseball tonight.

Hopefully they do well without my undivided attention.

There is baseball tonight

I decided to take tomorrow off because is supposed to be a nice day and I want to get some outdoor work done. Mainly I want to replace several screens on my porch and finish painting the dog door I built for the Small Emergency Backup Dog.

I also want to maybe stay awake a little later this evening so I can watch a few inning of the 10:00pm ball game. Price is pitching and I want to see at least two innings. He's one of those guys that if he's going to pitch well, he'll pitch well right at the very start. If he's going to suck, he'll suck in the first inning.

I'm hoping that he's going to pitch well but I won't be surprised if he sucks. His last start lasted only an inning because he had some kind of "sensation in the left hand" (his words, not mine) so I figure he's already started making excuses for what could be another crappy season.

We'll see how things go.

Harry Anderson died today. He was a very funny guy and he made my life a little more enjoyable.

I met him once when I was working at WNEC. He did a show there and since I was the CPD shift supervisor, I assigned myself to the back stage. He was a genuinely nice guy who joked around with me for a while and we had a good time. As he was getting ready to start his show, he asked me for the name of a nearby town that had a crappy reputation.

I told him Palmer.

He stepped out on to stage and said, "Wow. So this is Springfield, the gateway to Palmer."

He got a big laugh from that so I figure that makes me a contributor to his act.

No baseball.

They postponed todays ball game because of snow / slush / rain until May 17.

Hopefully it won't snow then.

They held the Boston Marathon today and my cousin participated by running in it.

He not only ran it, he finished it.

Here are his times:

Not bad. Not bad at all.

There have been a lot of rumors floating around about Facebook, Google and Amazon using the microphone on your device (phone, computer, tablet) to listen for key words and then target ads to you.

I did some research and found a ton of websites alleging that companies are using your microphone and camera to track you. There is even a video out there that allegedly "proves" that Google listens to everything say and then targets the ads you see based on what you are talking about.

For the record, that video has been proven to be inaccurate and the majority of the websites are pretty much nothing but unproven conspiracy theories and wild-ass guesses.

But there is one thing that I found that struck me as interesting.

Back in 2012, Google was granted a patent to use the sensors in most devices to help them target advertisements.

What this means is that is your phone has a GPS, a thermometer, a light sensor, a compass, a pressure sensor, etc... then any Google app you are running (maps, gmail, calendar, etc...) may very well be using those sensors to decide what adsense (Google's advertising widget) will display to you.

For instance, a company that sells instant hot chocolate would tell Google they want their ads to be displayed to people who's phone senses the temperature is below 40° or a company that sells those little neck pillows to people that fly a lot would say they want their ads targeted to people who's phone is constantly showing changes in elevation.

This is kind of a interesting thing.

In my opinion, it's not frightening or an invasion of privacy but interesting non-the-less.

I think I'll search the interwebs for some funny videos.

I know they are going to lose one of these days

Baseball teams win some and they lose some but right now the Red Sox are looking like they can't lose.

They managed to beat the Orioles again today, taking at least 3 of their 4-game series. Tomorrow's game is questionable because of the weather but you know what I think of weather people. They don't know what it's going to do in the next hour never mind what it's going to do tomorrow.

So anyways, the Red Sox keep winning and they currently have the best record in all of MLB.

If they don't play tomorrow, they will have two days off to travel to California where they will play a 3-game series against the Angels and then a 3-game series against the Athletics.

Unfortunately, most of those game will be played at 10:00 pm which is way past my bedtime. One will be played at 9:00 pm and the last one will be played at 4:00 pm. I might be able to watch a couple of inning of the 9:00 game and hopefully watch the entire 4:00 game.

As I said the other day, since the game was on at 1:00 again, I'll be watching YouTube comedians again this evening. I found a new one last night. His name is Dylan Moran.

They just keep on winning

The Red Sox took game two of their four game series against the Orioles this afternoon, giving them a record of 12-2.

And that, my friends, is a hell of a good start to the season.

Unfortunately, the game was on at 1:00 this afternoon so I have nothing to watch this evening. Maybe I'll spend it watching comedians on YouTube.

Two of my favorites come from Australia. They are Ethan Marrell and Isaac Butterfield.

They are funny guys.

They won the series

Winning three and four game series is always good because if the Red Sox can continue to win those series, they will make the playoffs. Hell, if they keep winning series like that, they'll probably win the division and then AL.

I'm liking this team.

A lot.

Tonight the Orioles come to town for a four game series before the Red Sox head off for a road trip to the left coast.

The weather does not look really promising so I won't be surprised if one of those four games gets postponed to another date.

But let's not worry about that right, let's worry about tonights game.

While I worry about tonights game, you can click on these:

That was an interesting game

The Yankees sought revenge and they got it by beating the Red Sox 10-7 last night. B ut that wasn't the big story. The big story was the bench clearing brawl that happened in the 7th inning.

Joe Kelly drilled Tyler Austin in the back after Austin slide into Brock Holt spikes high at second base. This caused Austin to charge the mound and Kelly to invite him in for a goer. And go they did.

Both benches and bullpens emptied onto the field and when it was over, Kelly and Austin were bloodied and ejected.

And that, my friends, is not how I like to see baseball played.

Hopefully tonights game goes better and the Red Sox win.

They handed the Yankees an ass kicking.

The Red Sox managed to stomp the crap out of the New York Aaron Judges starring Giancarlo Stanton last night and I managed to watch the entire game.

The final score was 14-1 and the only time I spoke to my coaching television was when Martinez stepped up to the plate. I reminded him it was just a game and he should relax and have fun.

This afternoon I checked ESPN to see what they had to say about the Red Sox beating the Yankees.

These were the headlines:

Just a passing mention of the score while praising Judge and Stanton, no mention of the fact that the Yankees are currently below .500, no mention of the fact that Stanton has a batting average of .196, no mention of the fact that the Red Sox have the best record in the American League, no mention of Mookie Betts hitting a grand slam.

I wonder how much the Yankees pay ESPN for this kind of coverage....

I'm going to be paying attention to the game again tonight but unless it's a close game, I probably won't stay awake to see all of it. Last night's game ended past 10:30 and that, as we all know, is past my bedtime.

This is where the rubber meets the road.

The Red Sox have had an easy time of it over their first nine games. Seven games against the Rays, who kinda suck, and two games against the Marlins, who really suck.

Tonight they take on the Yankees who for the most part haven't done all that well but they are still better than either the Rays or the Marlins. I'm hoping they take all three games from the Yankees and send them back to New York with their hats in their hands.

A come back win is always nice.

The Red Sox were losing to the Rays until the eighth inning when the they suddenly started hitting the ball. They were down 7-2 when "Mitchy 2-Bags" Moreland started the rally with a double that lead them to score six runs, all with with two outs.

Thanks to young Mr. Kimbrel, they managed to hold on to that lead and ended up winning the game 8-7, giving them a eight-game winning streak.

Like I said yesterday, it's good to be a Red Sox fan.

Not much to prattle on about today. My wife had to work, again, and I spent my day trying to figure out what John needed for a new computer.

His old desktop is not doing the job anymore and he asked me to look for a replacement. I think I found him one but he needs to make that decision, not me.

And another one is gone

I went to a memorial service for my aunt who passed away last weekend.

She was the last sibling in my dads family so now there are no more aunts or uncles. There are, however, plenty of cousins so we got that going for us.

One of them mentioned a family reunion in the near future so we'll see how that goes.

While I was hanging out with my cousins, the Red Sox were running all over the Rays.

I managed to watch the first 5 innings of the game so I got to see Porcello pitch a good game and Bogaerts hit the crap out of the ball.

His first at bat, he hit a two-run double and his second at bat, he hit a grand slam. They won the game 10-3 and he scored 6 of their 10 runs.

It's good to be a Red Sox fan. Hopefully it stays that way.

If you haven't noticed, the stock market has been more than a little erratic lately thanks to our President and his desire to "shake things up".

It dropped 2.3% yesterday so that means most people have 2.3% less money than they did on Thursday.

I'm kind of hoping he gets around to stabilizing one of these days because this constant shaking up is bad for a lot of things.

Especially my retirement funds.

No Red Sox baseball tonight

I will, however, be watching Orioles hopefully beat the New York Aaron Judges starring Giancarlo Stanton on the MLB channel.

Yesterday the New York fans booed Stanton off the field because apparently he hasn't been living up to their high standards.

Personally, I think the guy will be an asset to that team but it's going to take him some time to settle in. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy their failures.

You may want to check these out:

Thursday, April 5, 2018

The Red Sox fans got their money's worth today.

It was a twelve inning game for the Red Sox in their home opener and fortunately they were able to get it done in under 4 hours.

Price pitched well today and that indicates that maybe, just maybe, he's back on his game.

It was a pitchers duel for the first 8 innings with the score 0-0 until Carson Smith gave up a two run homer in the eighth. Then the Red Sox managed to tie it up in ninth and they went into extra innings.

I drove home listening to the ninth inning, took care of The Dog, got the mail, took care of The Dog, got changed, took care of The Dog. You see, he needs to pee when we get home, then he needs to eats and right after that, he needs to poop. It's his ritual.

So after all that, I turned on NESN and picked up the action in the eleventh inning.

Not much happened in the eleventh but the twelfth was exciting as hell when Bradley hit a double, they walked Betts who promptly stole second and then Benintendi managed to work a walk. This loaded the bases with one out.

This brought Ramirez to the plate and he actually came through with a long drive over the outfielders head to drive in Bradley for the win.

I'm liking this team.

A lot.

No baseball this evening

Well, there was baseball just no baseball I was overly interested in.

The New York Aaron Judges starring Giancarlo Stanton beat the Rays and the Astros beat the Orioles this afternoon. Neither game was appealing to me because, well, they aren't covered on any television channels I get.

I did watch a little bit of the Indians / Angels game that was on the MLB channel and I'll probably pay attention to the Twins / Pirates game simply because the Pirates are undefeated and I like them.

They keep on winning

Granted, they are playing teams that are traditionally not all that good but hey, at least they are getting off to a good start.

Last night was a good win because not only did the starter, Brian Johnson, pitch well, the hitters finally started hitting the ball well.

I'm hoping tonight goes just as well, if not better.

Since tonight is an early game (they started at 6:05), I'm going to call this a short posting and just give you these few links:

No retirement for you!

The DJIA dropped almost 2%, the S&P dropped 2.5% and the NASDAQ dropped 2.75% today

That's a lot of retirement money that is not there anymore.

Hopefully it will be back soon. I'm hoping it's just on a vacation or maybe a short trip to see some sights.

So the Mass State Police have eliminated the turnpike troop (Troop E) and are shifting the troopers that didn't get suspended over to the the three other troops (B, C and H) that border the pike.

I'm not entirely sure how that move will change the fraud being committed but then again, what do I know.

I'm going to watch the Red Sox play baseball in a National League park. It's always fun to watch American League pitchers try to bat.

They took three out of four.

The Red Sox won again today when they beat the Rays 2-1.

The Red Sox starting pitchers are throwing the ball better than anyone, with a combined ERA of 0.75. For those of you that don't care, that means if they had all pitched in one game, they would have given up only three quarters of a run.

Not bad for a starting rotation with two members on the DL.
