They are not playing well.

The Bruins once again played like crap and they got their ass kicked.

They lost to the Blue Jackets 5-2 last night not because the Blue Jackets played good hockey. The Bruins lost because they played a terrible game of hockey.

It got so bad that in the second period, the coach pulled Swayman out of the goal and put Ullmark in.

This is their third loss in a row and in all three games, it seemed like they were not working as a team. Their passes were sloppy, their shots on goal were haphazard and I didn't see a lot of communication on the ice.

They are off now until Thursday when they will play the Sharks. I have a feeling that between now and then, the coaches will be working them extra hard

Heads up people - The Federal Government wants to control your car electronically.

Now don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying that's a terrible idea. I've seen idiots doing 50 in a school zone while school was getting out and maybe it would be a great idea to slow them down. Either that or put snipers out at school zones and shoot the murderers that are trying to kill the kids...

The problem I have with this whole concept is the idea that the government wants to control something we all do. And they want to do it based on where you are and some unregulated edict put forth by an unknown individual some number of years ago.

This, in my opinion, is a very short step away "Big Brother".

If they do this, what's to prevent them from putting eye tracking devices in all cars and shutting the car down if the driver isn't keeping their eyes on the road? Seems to me there are more accidents caused by distracted drivers than there are by speeders.

Also, how will all the small towns that run speed traps replace the revenue they get from speeding tickets if this ever becomes a reality?

I'm going to make some dinner and watch some bad tv.

A bit busy

Things got done which means I didn't have a lot of time to see what is going on in the world.

Now that I think about it, I'm betting the same things that were going on in the 1980s are still going on - fighting in the middle-east, US economy in shambles, politicians stealing & comitting fraud, the Red Sox trying to rebuild and the Patriots losing every game they play.

The more things change, the more they remain the same.

How many?

Q: How many interceptions does it take before Belichick pulls Jones and puts in Zappe?

A: Two. It takes two interceptions. It takes two of the dumbest and unnecessary interceptions thrown by Jones before Belichick decides that he's seen enough and pulls him from the game.

Jones started and stayed in the game through the first two quarters and at the half, the Patriots were down 7-0. Jones was throwing the football like me - slow, fluttering lobs that were basically up for grabs by anyone who happened to be within a few yards of his target.

And I'm not talking about 50 yard hail mary passes either. I'm talking about 10 yard passes to a wideout or short over-the-top passes on a short route. Passes that should shoot through the air in a perfect straight line spiral with enough speed to cause the receiver to grunt when he catches it.

Jones played worse today than I've seen him play in all previous games and that's saying something because for the most part, he sucked in all the previous games.

Zappe came in to start the second half and the first thing he did was march the Patriots down field to score a touchdown and tie the game 7-7.

It's not like Zappe had a flawless game either. He threw his own interception to start the fourth quarter but at least he was able to score some points.

Unfortunately, the Patriots don't have the best field goal kicker in the business and Ryland missed a game tying field goal with six seconds left in the game, giving the Giants a 10-7 win.

I kinda blame Belichick for this loss. He should never have started Jones. Or at the very least, pulled him after the first soft-toss interception because it was painfully obvious Jones was having a very bad day.

On the upside, the Steelers beat the Bengals 16-10.

At noon today, my gutters were leaf-free and my lawn looked like this:

We'll see what it looks like tomorrow after tonight's predicted rain and wind.

Thanksgiving, The Sequel

Our Thanksgiving had a part two today when our children showed up to enjoy turkey and stuff.

When we got married, we made the decision that we were not going to make the holidays a stressful experience for anyone. We would try to make it to both family holiday things but if it wasn't really possible, no big deal.

When my sisters and brothers got married, we got together and decided we would celebrate Christmas either the weekend before or the weekend after so we could all go hang out with our in-laws on the day of and then get together afterwards. This meant we were celebrating two Christmases.

When we had kids, we decided we weren't going to leave our house on Christmas day because the one thing I didn't want to do was drag my kids away from their Christmas presents. My brothers and sisters pretty much agreed that was a good idea and we ended up with three Christmases - one with the in-laws, one with just us and one with my siblings.

Since the multiple Christmas thing worked out so well, and now that our kids are on their own, we decided to apply the same thinking to all the holidays and now we have multiple Thanksgiving's. This way the kids can celebrate with the family of their "significant other" and then celebrate with us.

All of which is a lengthy explanation as to why today is Thanksgiving, The Sequel.

The Bruins took on the Rangers this afternoon and once again got their ass kicked. The Rangers beat them 7-4 simply because they played a hell of a lot better than the Bruins.

This means they are now tied with the Rangers for first place in the NHL, with the Golden Knights one point behind them.

They are off tomorrow while they travel to Ohio where on Monday they will play the Blue Jackets.

Let's hope they get their shit together and start playing some good hockey again.

Happy Black Friday

We did not go to the store because we were looking for deals.

We went to the store because we needed to get food.

It was not crowded at all.

The Bruins defeated the Panthers on Wednesday, beating them 3-1.

They played the Red Wings this afternoon at 1:00 and they managed to play like crap, losing 5-2. Once again, too many penalties. At one point, the Red Wings had a minute of 5 on 3 play. It's tough to win hockey games when you are playing with less men.

Swayman stopped 24 of 28 shots. The fifth goal against the Bruins was on an empty net in the last minute of the third periood.

A quick check of the standings show they are still one point ahead of the Golden Knights, in first place in the NHL.

Yes, I know it's awful early in the season to talk about the standings but keep in mind that I am of the thinking that it's easier to maintain a lead than it is to come from behind. That is why I believe standings are important throughout the entire season.

Tomorrow they will be in New York City where they play the Rangers. Puck drops at 1:00.

They are starting to speculate about the car that crashed and exploded at the border the other day and it looks like this might have been some kind of mechanical issue with the car.

Apparently the car was an older model Bentley which, if I understand it, is a pretty expensive car. Since I'm not a car guy, I have no idea what a Bentley costs but it looks to me like maybe I will not be buying one.

I try to avoid owning cars that can suddenly decide to kill you...

The middle east is heating up

It's beginning to look more and more like the United States is in a shooting war with Iran.

The media says this is all related to the current situation between Israel and Hamas but I can't help but wonder if it might have something to do with the fact that every time Goofy Joe gives a speech, he looks more and more like a stroke victim.

Maybe what the Iranians see is a U.S. Commander & Chief who might not really be able to command...

There was a car explosion on the bridge at Niagara Falls and it looks like we temporarily closed our border with Canada.

The responsible news organizations were reporting that it was being investigated by the FBI and while it appears as if it could be some kind of attack, they were unsure what caused the car to explode and the border between New York and Canada was closed "out of an abundance of caution".

The irresponsible news organizations were reporting:

As the day went on, it was revealed that the car was driving on a side street in the US when it suddenly accelerated to an estimated 100mph, hit a barrier that caused it to go airborne and crashed into a structure at the border checkpoint. That sounds a lot like someone who had a medical issue.

So maybe at some point this evening, we'll know what happened but my guess is this is nothing more than a bad accident caused by someone who had no intention of dying this afternoon.

It's Taco Wednesday followed by some Bruins/Panthers hockey.

They lost

The Bruins had the game in hand right up until the last 5 seconds of the third period. That was when the Lightning scored the tying goal, forcing the game into a sudden death overtime period.

Swayman had a great night, stopping 42 of 46 shots but he just couldn't get a handle on the 47th shot and the Lightning scored the winning goal, beating the the Bruins 5-4.

They picked up one point for the regulation tie and they are currently alone in first place in the NHL, one point ahead of the Golden Knights.

The Bruins remain in Florida, traveling across the state from Tampa to Sunrise where tomorrow evening they will play the Panthers. Puck drops at 7:00

We have things to do so this is pretty much a "links only" kind of posting.

Another win

The Bruins outplayed the Canadiens last night, beating them 5-2.

Swayman had a nice night in goal, stopping 20 of 22 shots which is a pretty good block ratio.

They are on their way to Tampa where tomorrow night they will take on the Lightning. Puck drops at 7:00.

The Patriots did not lose today because the Patriots did not play today.

The Steelers, however, did play and they lost to the Browns 13-10.

The Chiefs and the Eagles will go at it tomorrow night.

In baseball, the Red Sox have not done much to rebuild their roster. They traded infielder Luis Urias to the Mariners for a pitcher named Campbell who spent a lot of last season in the minors.

I'm sure they are actively negotiating with several of free agents but no one is going to take a deal this early in the process unless that deal is for stupid money. I'm pretty sure the Red Sox aren't going to suddenly start throwing stupid money around.

They have numerous needs and spending a lot of money on one player will restrict what they can afford for the remaining holes in their roster.

Busy day

We had an adventure today that took as far afield in search of various consumables.

In other words, we went grocery shopping.

Yes, there is hockey this evening.

Yes, I will be watching it.

No, Milan Lucic will probably not be watching it.

The Canadiens are in Boston to hopefully lose to the Bruins this evening. Puck drops at 7:00.

Before that, however, I will be watching the replay of the LPGA CME Group Championship. So far, none of those players have been arrested for a domestic "incident"...

If I remember correctly, Donald Help! I'm talking and I can't shut up! Trump was specifically told that he would be held in contempt of the court if he talked about the clerk. This pissed Trump off to no end.

Turns out his lawyers filed an appeal based on Trump's right to free speech and that judge issued a temporary restraining order, effectively lifting the ban. This gave Trump free range on his truth thingee and what do you think is the first thing he does...

The man is a spoiled little brat.

I'm going to see if we have anything for dinner and then I'm going to watch some hockey.

Yet another snappy title

No hockey but I did get to watch a baseball game from seven years ago.

NESN reran a game between the Red Sox and the Astros from 2016. Turns out it was a pretty good game.

As an extra plus, I got to listen to Jerry Remy again.

Guess who finally got a favorable wind?

This guy!

This afternoon, all of the leaves that had blown onto my yard from my neighbor are now all back on his yard. This was because the winds shifted a bit and started blowing everything back where they came from.

Sometimes you're the bug, sometimes you're the windshield.

This is Sage. She's not supposed to be on the table.

Time to go eat some meatloaf and watch some golf.

Snappy title

I decided that The Vets new closet doors needed one more trim.

I trimmed the inside edges of each panel when we put them up yesterday but they were just a bit tight when fully closed. After giving it some thought, I decided that the tight fit is fine in the winter but once the humidity starts to roll in during the summer months, those doors were probably going to swell beyond the limit of the door frame.

I went over to her house while she was at work this morning, brought the doors back to my house and ran the panels through the table saw one last time to remove an extra 1/16th off each panel. That is a total of a quarter inch and that should make all the difference come this summer.

I'm going to find some entertainment and fall asleep early.

As predicted

The Bruins pretty much owned the Sabres last night, beating them 5-2.

The Bruins played very well with only six penalty minutes. It was a fun game to watch and I'm glad I managed to stay awake until the end.

Next game is Saturday when they welcome the Canadiens into Boston and hopefully make up for the loss they experienced the last time they played them.

I spent quite a bit of time installing closet doors at The Vets house.
The dog approves.

Thrust me, there was a lot of trimming. Seems that the doors are designed to fit a 48" x 80" frame. Her door frame was 47" x 78¾". But we managed to safely cut the doors to size.

After we finished, The Vet took them down and is in the process of painting them.

Dinner was leftovers and now it's time for bad television.

Yes, there is hockey this evening

The Bruins are in Buffallo to play the Sabres. Puck drops at 7:00.

This should be a win for the Bruins since the Sabres are at best a .500 team. If the Bruins can minimize their penalty minutes and keep themselves at full strength for most of the game, they should have no problem holding off the Sabres.

Key line in this story: "After throwing his NFL-high 10th interception, Jones was unceremoniously benched..."

I know that sports writers are notorious for saying things that turn out to be flat-out wrong and this story may just be one example of that, but...

...it's time for the Mac Jones experiment to come to an end.

I was on the Jones bandwagon his first season with the team. Let's face it, after two seasons of Cam Newton, we were all happy to see someone else step in and hopefully clean up the mess.

But that didn't happen.

He's in his third season with the team and it seems like he has gotten progressively worse each year.

Belichick needs to find someone who can play the game with skill. Maybe that someone is Zappe, maybe not, I don't know. What I do know is it's definitely not Jones.

There are two foods that I find difficult to make.

The first is jello. When I make jello, it never sets. It comes out as more of a kool-aid kind of drink rather than a jiggly blob of delight.

The second is pasta. I never know how much to make. My wife, The Professor, finds it funny as hell when she looks at the huge colander filled with pasta and says something like, "Maybe we should invite the neighbors over beause there's enough pasta there to feed 10 people". Then we spend the next three days eating various pasta dishes.

Now I'm going to try and make just enough pasta to go with the chicken parmesean we are having for dinner. Wish me luck.

After I make pasta, I'm going to watch hockey.

Everybody lost

Last night the Bruins lost in overtime and today, the Patriots lost in, well, normal time.

The Bruins played well and held on to a 1-0 lead through most of the game. Then, in the third period, the Canadiens scored two quick goals and took a 2-1 lead. The Bruins managed to score a last minute goal for a 2-2 tie and sending the game into overtime.

And that was when they lost.

As for the Patriots, I have no intention of saying they stink. I have no desire to say they suck. Hell, I'm not even going to say they are bad.

What I am going to say is that they are in last place in the AFC with a record of 2-8.

I'll let you decide what verb best describes them.

I'm going to put the golf channel on and watch the replay of the Butterfield.

Another win

The Bruins beat the Islanders 5-2 last night.

It was a close game with the Bruins up 2-1 going into the third period. They scored 3 more goals while holding the Islanders to only 1 goal.

They are on their way to Montreal where they will play the Canadiens tomorrow. Puck drops at 7:00.

I managed to clean all the leaves and debris out of my gutters without falling off my roof.

Trust me, at my age, not falling of the roof is a good thing.

This was not a busy day

As a matter of fact, I would classify this as a lazy day.

It was misting most of the day which is okay because I got all the leaves off my front and side yards yesterday. I have a few things I want to do around the house like paint the bathroom ceiling and clean my basement work area but to be honest with you, I just didn't feel like doing them.

Maybe I'll do them next week.

Once again, a busy day

I had a meeting this morning and then a trip to Costco to get some cheap, non-Massachusetts eggs (and a few other things). After that it was lunch with my buddies and finally I got the leaves off my lawn.

I did manage to hear some news on my car radio. The weather dweebs are saying we might see some sleet / freezing rain tomorrow morning which is why I decided to get the leaves off my lawn.

No, the dogwood tree in my front yard has not dropped any leaves yet...

So far, Trump and each of his three children have testified that none of them had anything to do with any Trump company(s) financial documents.

I gotta be honest with you, it sounds kind of stupid to me that the owners of a company have no idea about the company's financial situation. That leads me to believe that the Trump's are either dumb as a box of concrete or they are lying about what they know.

I'm willing to accept either explanation.

I've had dinner and now I'm going to watch some bad television.

Here are some links:

Tuesday, November 7, 2023

I got one tree...

In the middle of my front yard is a dogwood tree that refuses to drop it's leaves.

In most years, this tree goes through the fall nicely dropping its leaves a little at a time, letting me clean them up by running them over with my lawn tractor. This year, however, I suspect this tree has some kind of grudge against me and has decided to wait until the first snow to drop its leaves.

Then, when there is six inches of snow on the ground, it's going to drop all of its leaves all at once, making it impossible for me to clean them up until sometime in April of next year.

I don't know what I did to piss off that tree...

Because Trump doesn't know when to shut up, he got yelled at by the judge in his fraud trial. As a matter of fact, he got yelled at a few times.

At some point, the judge decided to take a break and he went to his chambers to chill out. When he returned, he was a changed man. He let Trump prattle on about anything he wanted to talk about.

I have a feeling he let Trump prettle on because it's very possible that Trump just started digging his own grave.

He admitted, in court and under oath, that his companies had changed the value of properties in New York. Forget that Florida Mar-A-Lago property, it is the properties in New York that are at the heart of this case. Like I always say, he just doesn't know when to shut up.

And speaking of Mar-A-Lago, did you know it was built in 1924 by the woman that owned General Foods, Marjorie Post?

When I went to bed last night, the Bruins were up 2-0 after two periods. When I woke up this morning, I discovered the Bruins beat the Stars 3-2 in regulation.

You have no idea how much joy it brings to to have one winning team in the sportings world that I enjoy watching

Their next game is Thursday when the Islanders come to Boston. Puck drops at 7:00pm

Chicken Alfredo for dinner tonight. That will be followed by the evening's entertainment of DVRs and perhaps some light reading.

Losses all around

Yes, I watched the Patriots play the Commanders today.

Yes, I watched the Patriots lose 17-20 to the Commanders today.

They gave me a bit of hope when they were up 14-10 at the half but then they came out for the third quarter and proceeded to suck all over the field.

Next week they are in Germany where they will be the home team against the Colts. That game will start at 9:30 in the morning but I'm not entirely sure what network, if any, will be carrying it. I have every reason to believe it will be streamed on some service I don't have.

The Bruins suffered their first loss of the season last night and it wasn't pretty.

The Bruins were up 3-2 on the Red Wings going into the third period when the Red Wings suddenly exploded and scored 3 goals to give them a 5-4 win.

Next game is tomorrow against the Stars. Puck drops at 8:00.

The change back to standard time has caused my sleep habits to be beyond screwed up.

That has caused me to forget to do anything about this daily collection of shit I post.

Maybe tomorrow I'll remember to do post something.

Saturday, November 4, 2023

Yes, there are sportings today

I started watching the PGA Timber Tech Championship but then I discovered that Galaxy Quest was on the Sundance Channel.

I like golf and all but Galaxy Quest is one of the all-time great Star Trek parodies.

So anyways, the Bruins take on the Red Wings at 7:00 this evening and I will be watching that.

So far, it looks like the Red Sox have gotten worse:
Red Sox decline option on pitcher Corey Kluber.
Infielder Justin Turner declines Red Sox option.
Infielder Adalberto Mondesi elected free agency.
Outfielder Adam Duvall elected free agency.
Pitcher James Paxton elected free agency.
Let's hope they get better soon...

Time to watch some hockey.

Another win

Turns out that while I wasn't able to watch the Bruins play hockey last night, I was able to stream the radio coverage of their game. That means I was able to listen to the Bruins almost blow the game.

They went up 2-0 in the second period and then proceeded to give up two goals to the Maple Leafs. The game remained tied 2-2 through the third period and the overtime period.

They finally won it when both DeBrusk and Coyle scored during the shootout.

Their next game is tomorrow against the Red Wings and this time it will be on my television.

I did get to watch some of the Titans / Steelers game last night. It was streamed on Amazon Prime and I have that. I hate watching things on my laptop but at least I could watch it.

It looked like the Steelers were going to lose and they were losing when I went to bed. So imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning to find that the Steelers had beat the Titans 20-16.

Now if only the Patriots can beat the Commanders this Sunday, things will be good.

I think my problem with the current state of the Red Sox is best summed up in this one statement from Sam Kennedy, President and CEO of the Red Sox:
Breslow is the one responsible for building the team. He is responsible for baseball being played at it's highest level. He is responsible for everything that happens in the organization known as "The Red Sox".

Is Kennedy saying that ownership has decided that the sport of baseball as just a "department" within the Red Sox organization?

I'm sorry but baseball is not a department, it's the whole organization. It's the only reason the Red Sox exist. It is not some subset of a company that has other things to focus on, it is the only focus of the organization.

Time to shut this down and watch some bad television.

Nary a leaf to be seen

As of 4:00 this afternoon, there were no leaves on my yard.

We'll see how long that lasts...

The Texas Rangers won the World Series for the first time in their franchise history.

Granted, the Rangers didn't exist before 1971 so it is a short history but it is the first time none-the-less.

The Maple Leafs are in Boston to play the Bruins this evening and I will be on my couch watching DVRs. That's because tonights game is being streamed in Hulu / ESPN+.

I don't have Hulu and I would never sign up for ESPN+.

ESPN sucks.

Time for dinner.

Welcome to New England

On October 28th, which was just four days ago, it was sunny and 81°:

Today it is snowing:

I love living in New England.

The Rangers beat the crap out of the Diamondbacks 11-7 last night and taking a 3-1 lead in the series.

The Diamondback pitching kinda really sucked last night. Their first four pitchers only made it through three innings and in those three innings, they gave up 10 runs, 5 of which were earned runs.

I gotta be honest with you, I suspect the Rangers will win tonight's game simply because Eovaldi is their starting pitcher.

There is one thing that Nasty Nate proved when he was with the Red Sox and that is that he is a hell of a playoff pitcher.

Tonight game starts at 8:00 unless FOX decides to once again run 10 minutes worth of commercials and 20 minutes of Ortiz, Jeter, Rodriguez and some guy named Burkhardt spewing verbal crap that absolutely no one gives a shit about. In that case, the game will start at 8:30.

Looks like McAvoy will forfeit $197,916.68 of his salary because he won't be playing the next four games. It also means the Bruins will be without his stick on the ice for the next week or so.

The punishment is justified and I think as a fan I'm a little pissed at him for doing something that is going to end up costing the team. It would have been better for everyone concerned if he simply skated on by and never laid a hand on Ekman-Larsson.

Or at least been a little more subtle about it...

We only had about 10 or 15 kids show up for Halloween last night so that means I have a lot of candy leftover.

It's always a good thing when there is leftover candy.
