They were up 4-0 in the seventh inning and it looked pretty good for them. Then they gave up a run.
In the eighth, they were up 4-1 and it looked pretty good for them. Then they gave up four runs.
They held off the Cubs in the top of the ninth and then, in the bottom of the ninth, they actually batted like professional baseball players.
Duran worked himself a walk.
Devers hit a single which moved the speedy Duran over to third.
O'Neill came up and hit a nice fly ball that dropped in the space between the infielders and the outfielders, giving Duran a chance to show off his speed again and he ran home, touched the plate and scored the winning run.
In the end, the Red Sox beat the Cubs 5-4 and won the series 2-1.
They are off today while they make some decisions about what to do with their infield. They have a new guy coming in named Cooper who plays first base. They also have another "new" guy coming off the DL named Grissom who plays shortstop.
That means they need to open up two roster spots...
So far today they have DFA'd Reyes. Not sure where the second spot will come from but if I were Dalbec, Hamilton or Valdez, I might be a little nervous
Their next game will be on Tuesday when the Giants come to Boston for a three game series.
The news keeps yapping about all the protests on college campuses and I have only one question: Who is the guy selling all those Yassir Arrafat hat things?
He must be a millionaire by now. Every kid on every campus bought one of those things.
Not much else going on that doesn't involve people in the middle-east slaughtering each other.
While I try to figure out what I'm going to watch on television this evening, you can check out these links:
- Japan: It's not like where we live.
- With all the parts falling off planes, I may never fly commercial again.
- Let me repeat that: I may never fly commercial again.
- Fearless Monkey Gang would be a great name for a 1990s punk rock band.
- Apparently all the weird shit that happens on the MassPike also happens on other parts of I-90.
