Now they need to maintain their record

The Red Sox won the AL East division title last night when the beat the Blue Jays.

Considering they were in last place at this time last year, it's a hell of an indication of what a team can do when they have a good manager and players that want to be a team of friends instead of a collection of statistical "winners".

With a record of 94 - 61 and seven games left in the season, they still have a chance at getting 100 wins but that's a tough call. Having clinched the division, Farrell will probably be giving some of his players some much-needed time off before they start the post-season and giving some of his AAA call-ups a chance to play in the big leagues.

Then again, the team with the best record in the league gets home field advantage in the playoffs and there are two other teams in the AL, the Tigers and the Athletics, that could surpass the Red Sox. That means Farrell may be putting the regulars on the field just so he maintains the number one spot in the AL.

Either way, it's a good time to be a Red Sox fan.
