A win and a loss

The Bruins lost to the Flyers last night, 4-3. It was a good game to watch with a lot of back-and-forth and regulation ended in a tie. Unfortunately, the Flyers mamnaged to win in a shoot-out.

Next game for the Bruins is Monday against the Oilers.

As for the Red Sox, they managed to beat the Orioles 3-0 last night. Of course, the Orioles have already won the division so instead of playing their top-of-line guys, they were pretty much playing all their bench players.

Then again, a win is a win, even when it's a win against the second string.

They are back at it again this evening at 7:00.

I'm thinking Donny Boy is more than a little stressed...

The Patriots are playing the Cowboys tomorrow and I'm really hoping they return to Foxboro with a 2-2 record.

Kickoff is at 4:25 and it looks like FOX will be carrying the game.

Another busy day

This morning was running around getting things done and this afternoon was meeting with some HVAC guys at The Vet's house.

She is considering having central air installed and since she already has a forced hot air system with all the associated duct work, that makes a lot of sense. She asked me to be there so I could be her dad and give my opinion.

So anyways, that's all I got for you other than these links:

They've given up

The Red Sox lost last night and from my point of view, they have given up.

I'm not saying they didn't try but I didn't see anyone really acting like the game mattered.

Oh well. Spring training is only 140± days away.

We were supposed to play golf this morning but Willie decided he didn't want to play in the cold (it was 40ยบ at my house) so we postponed to next week.

This is what getting old does to you. You figure out a time to do something but then you decide to not do it because it's too cold or it's too hot or your back hurts or something...

No, I did not watch any of the debate. I hate listening to idiots ramble on about how great they are and how terrible their opponents are while never actually answering the questions that was asked.

Politicians don't give answers. They only make promises that cannot possibly be kept.

I'm going to figure out what to make for dinner and then I'm going to watch baseball.

Bruins and Red Sox lost

The Bruins just couldn't get past the Sabres and ended up losing their game 4-1. Their next game is Friday when they will take on the Oilers.

Oh, and I don't know if I ever clarified this - the NHL regular season starts on October 10th. The Bruins first regular season game is October 11th

The Red Sox gave up seven runs in the first three innings but managed to stage a comeback, scoring seven of their own. But, in the end, it wasn't enough. They ended up losing 9-7 to the Rays.

They are back at it again this evening.

According to the Farmers Almanac, the northeast can expect the following:
    Will There Be Snow?
Yes! Precipitation and snowfall will be above normal.
The snowiest stretches occur in mid-to late November, mid-December and early to mid-January.
There will be a white Christmas in the mountains, but it’s less likely in the foothills and along I-95.

    How Cold Will Winter Be?
Winter temperatures will be above normal.
The coldest periods will occur in mid- to late November, early to mid-January, and early to mid-February.

I bring this up because today I cleaned up some acorns in my backyard...
That is from one oak tree that overhangs the back corner of my yard. This is in addition to two five-gallon pails filled to the brim that I took out of there last week.

Good thing I already made sure The Beast is ready to go.

Time for baseball.

Six games left

The Red Sox have six games left in their season. Two against the Rays in Boston and then four against the Orioles in Baltimore. Then they will all go on a three or four month vacation before getting ready for the start of spring training in February.

The people who will not be going on vacation are John Henry and Sam Kennedy. Those two need to find a GM and they need to find one fast. And the GM they find needs to be the right person for the job or there might be a riot in Boston.

Lets face it, coming in last in the ALEast three out of the last four seasons has worn down the fan base. It's like the 1980's all over again and Boston fans don't like that feeling.

So anyways, I'll watch those last six games and then I'll watch the NL playoffs. I've decided I'm rooting for the Brewers.

Another thing I will be watching this evening is the Bruins.

They are in Buffalo where they will take on the Sabres in their second preseason game.

This figures to be an interesting game since the Sabres are looking like a team that will contend this season.

I put the last air conditioner away today so I'm really hoping we don't get one of those freak heat waves in the next few weeks.

Time for some dinner and then some sportings.

Not late

Not much to prattle on about. It was a cold, raw, rainy day and I ended up at the library. I also ended up with a "low tire pressure" issue on my car. Not a big issue but one that required I spend time trying to figure out the correct tire pressure and then figure out how to reset the TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system).

I found out my tire pressure requirements are listed on a sticker on my door and, since I have a compressor, I was able to take care of things. Then it was a matter of instructing the car to calibrate the TPMS and make the idiot light go away.

I guess I did everything correctly because the idiot light went away.

Oops

I forgot to click the publish button.

The Patriots managed to beat the Jets this afternoon 15-10 and giving them a record of 1-2.

Jones did okay but he still spends a lot of time making his receivers work to catch his passes.

As for the Red Sox, their game ended after six innings (rain) with the Red Sox losing 3-2 to the White Sox.

Oh, and I was wrong yesterday about the start time of the Bruins game. Their game started at 5:45 and the Bruins won 3-0.

Good game last night

The Red Sox beat the White Sox 3-2 last night which means absolutely nothing for either team.

The Red Sox are two games below .500 and the White Sox are so far below .500 that I don't feel like doing the math. Let's call it thirty games below .500 just so you know how bad they are.

As for today, the game started at 4:00 and the Red Sox lost 1-0 which, again, means absolutely nothing for either team.

Tomorrow is the big sportings day with the Patriots @ Jets at 1:00, the White Sox @ Red Sox at 1:35 and the Rangers @ Bruins preseason game is at 7:00.

I'm pretty sure I don't have enough snacks.

Whelp, time to throw the betting slip away

It seemed like a good bet at the time...

With yesterday's loss, the Red Sox have effectively been eliminated from playoff contention.

And the Judges aren't far behind them.

They are on an off-day today while they travel back to Boston where tomorrow they will start a three-game series against the White Sox.

Yes, despite the losing season, I will continue to watch them. I like baseball and, thanks to my mom, I've been a fan of the Boston Red Sox since I was old enough to understand the difference between a strike and a ball.

On the other hand, if the Red Sox don't do something over the off-season to improve their pitching, I'm gonna be pissed...

In other sportings news, we are two days away from the start of the Bruins season. They will open their season by hosting the Rangers this Sunday at 5:00pm.

That means Sunday is going to be a busy sports day for me. The Patriots are in New Jersey to play the Jets at 1:00pm and the White Sox are in Boston to play the Red Sox at 1:35pm.

I better stock up on plenty of good snacks...

I need to come up with something good for dinner.

While I figure that out, you should check these out:

Back on the losing streak

When I went to bed last night, the Red Sox were up 3-2 in the middle of the sixth inning.

When I woke up this morning, I discovered that the Red Sox lost to the Rangers 6-4.

So much for a winning streak to end their season...

As for today's game, it started at 2:05 and as I post this at 4:00pm, the Rangers are up 13-4 in the sixth inning.

Not much else I want to prattle on about.

Trump didn't have anything funny to say on his truthy thing, Goofy Joe still sounds like he's having mini-strokes every day and the stock market is still collapsing because the Fed just keeps on raising interest rates.

I'm going to watch the end of this baseball game and then finish reading my book.

They won!

When I went to bed last night, the Red Sox were down 2-1 in the seventh inning. When I woke up this morning, I found that the Red Sox beat the Rangers 4-2.

They are still in the basement, a game and a half behind the Judges, but at least they won a game!

Tonight's game is, once again, on at 8:00. That means that I, once again, won't be able to watch the entire game.

Donald Trump is back on his truth thingee and now he's accusing Goofy Joe of killing newborn babies:

Not a good start

The Red Sox are having a terrible end to their season and the Patriots are have a terrible start to their season.

The Dolphins beat the Patriots 24-17 last night.

After watching their performance during their pre-season games and these first two games of the season, it's a pretty good bet that this is not going to be a good year for the Patriots.

Guess my sportings hopes all ride on the Bruins now...

The Red Sox will be playing the Rangers at 8:00 this evening which means I won't see all nine innings.

And based on the way they are playing, that might not be a bad thing.

Willie made it home from Italy and said he was looking forward to golf sometime next week.

More tree trimming.

I finished up cutting back all the Rose-of-Sharon trees this morning and now I no longer have to worry about a rain of seeds down my back when I mow.

I also hope I don't have to worry about a billion seedlings suddenly appearing in my yard in the late spring.

He has said several times over the last few years that he has all the facts to prove that the election was rigged.

As a matter of fact, back in mid-August, he announced he would be holding a press conference to release those facts. Then he said he changed his mind and cancelled the press conference.

At some point, someone needs to call him out and flat out accuse him of lying. Someone needs to look him in the eye and say, "Trump, you have spent the last several years telling everyone that the election was rigged and you have proof. It's time for you to show us that proof. I accuse you of lying to the public. I am calling you a low-life lying scumbag. If you want to sue me for slander, go ahead but you will need to prove that you are not a lying sack of shit by showing the world your alleged 'evidence'".

I'll bet a hundred dollars that he never shows any of his evidence because he doesn't have any. Everything he 'knows' about the 2020 election is firmly entrenched in his vivid imagination.

Well, the Red Sox lost again this afternoon which means they got swept by the Blue Jays. They are now two full games below .500.

The chances of them making it into the playoffs are about .0001% which means they will be done for the season on October 1st and I have to find some other team to root for.

Maybe the Orioles or the Twins.

Time for dinner and then some Bering Sea Gold until the Patriots come on at 8:00.

Long game

The Red Sox lost to the Blue Jays 3-0 last night and tried like hell to win today's game.

In the end, they lost 4-3 but it took the Blue Jays 13 innings to do it.

So the Red Sox are back below .500 and have sole possession of last place in the ALEast.

Might be time for me to throw that betting slip away.

Things went poorly for the Red Sox

The Judges beat the Red Sox last night when Judge hit a grand slam and the Red Sox were unable to recover from it. The game ended with the Judges up 6-5.

Tonight they face the Blue Jays while the Judges are playing the Pirates.

I suspect that tomorrow morning we will find that the Red Sox are alone in last place in the ALEast...

Tree trimming occurred today and my hands hurt.

We attacked five large Rose-of-Sharon trees and cut them back by half. Normally we trim them in the spring but they had a lot of flowers this year which means they had a lot of seed pods. And each of those seed pods will release a lot of seeds.

If you have never seen a Rose-of-Sharon tree, let me tell you that they are basically weeds that produce millions of seeds. In the fall, those seed pods dry and split open but the seeds kinda hang out in the pods until something disturbs them. Like me when I mow the lawn. Then they fall out in the millions.

There is nothing more enjoyable than getting rained on by a few thousand seeds that inevitably find there way down the back of your shirt and into your shorts.

Once again, extra baseball

Last night the Red Sox and Judges were rained out so today was/is a double-header.

The first game was at 1:35 and the Red Sox beat the Judges 5-0. This means they are now one full game ahead of them in the ALEast.

They are still seven games out of the wildcard and I'm pretty sure they don't stand a chance but I'm glad they are keeping the Judges down in the basement.

The second game will be at 7:15 tonight w2hich menas I should be able to watch all of it..

In other baseball news, Red Sox ownership decided to fire Chaim Bloom.

I have two things to say about that:
  1. He did the job they hired him for - rebuild the farm system and get below the luxury tax threshold.

  2. If he had found some starting pitching before the start of the season or at the trade deadline, he would probably still have a job.
He'll find another job soon and hopefully the Red Sox find someone who can build a winning team.

Now I'm waiting for the Judges to do something similar. Hell, if George Steinbrenner were still alive, he would have fired everyone sometime in August.

I don't want to say I'm a tasty guy but I've got more mosquito bites on me than I ever remember having.

I've got so many welts that I've probably got that "West Nile EEE Malaria Dengue Fever" disease.

Today would have been a great day to go play golf but Willie is in Italy and I don't think he wants to fly back here just to play golf with us.

I don't know where Pat is. Maybe he's in Italy too. Or Ludlow. I don't know.

All I'm certain of is I'm not in Italy. I'm at my house.

Instead of golf, I mowed my lawn.

I can also tell you that I'm certain lawn mowing is not as much fun as golf.

The Judges and the Red Sox are tied

The Red Sox lost both games yesterday which means they are now tied with the Judges at seven games behind the wildcard.

It also means that if they lose today, they will fall behind the Judges.

It would make me very happy if the Red Sox were to win the next two games and push the Judges two full games behind them.

Here's a shock - tonight's game is in a rain delay...

I'm going to find something to watch because according to the weather dweebs, it's going to rain at Fenway until at least 9:30 or 10:00 tonight.

Lots of baseball today

Last night the Red Sox / Judges game got postponed to this afternoon at 1:10. That means today is a double-headerI also means the The Dog and I spent a lot of time watching baseball.

I also got some stuff done aroudn the house but admittedly not as much as I should have.

Furthermore, it means I didn't spend a lot of time surfing the internets for news or humor.

So anyways, the first game is complete and the Yankees beat the Red Sox 3-2.

I watched Aaron Rodgers play his entire season last night, all four minutes of it.

I have no idea what the Jets are paying him in guaranteed money but I did hear on the radio that it was in excess of $1.8million this year. That means he earned $450,000 per minute last night because he ain't gonna play the rest of this season.

In other news, the rumors about the Jets trying to talk Brady out of retirement have already started.

Did this fool just admit, in writing, that he lies on his financial statements?

Does he not have a small cabal of attorneys that look at what he's saying?

I've got to make some dinner and then watch some more baseball.

At least the Red Sox won

The Patriots could not pull it off and they ended up losing their first game of the season. The Eagles won 25-20.

The Dolphins will be in Foxboro next Sunday for an 8:00pm kickoff.

I really would like the Patriots to win because I have two friends that are Dolphins fans and if the Dolphins win, I'm probably going to hear about it.

As for the Red Sox, they are now six and a half games out of the wildcard.

There are 19 games left in this season. In order for them to get into the wildcard, they need to win most of those games because I doubt the Rangers or the Mariners are going to lose all of their games...

As for the Judges, well they are in worse position than the Red Sox so I don't think there is much chance they will get into the playoffs either.

And speaking of the Judges, they are in Boston where they will start a four-game series against the Red Sox tonight. First pitch is at 7:10.

Normally I would be thinking this is perfect because of the twelve times they have faced the Judges this season, the Red Sox have won ten of those games. That's a pretty good record.

However....

With some callups from their minor league affiliates and the release of some guys who weren't performing very well, the Judges are an improved team over what they were the last time the Red Sox faced them. I hope I'm wrong but I don't have a warm & fuzzy feeling about this series.

Rain delay.

The Red Sox game was delayed by an hour so it started at 2:15. Then, with the Red Sox leading 7-3 in the eighth inning, they went into another rain delay.

The game resumed after an hour or so and the Red Sox maintained their lead. This means they did not get swept.

The Patriots are playing. Rain does not stop a football game. Thunder and lightning will stop a football game but not rain. Football players are tougher than baseball players.

It is currently the third quarter and the Patriots are down 19-14. It's a good game and if the Patriots offensive line can keep it's shit together during the second half, Jones might just pull this game out of his ass.

I managed to get my lawn mowed before the rain hit today and then I watched baseball/football.

That means I got nothing else to chat about.

Trump, however, has a lot to say:

Things are getting worse for the Red Sox

With last nights loss, they are now six games out of the wildcard.

They have a tough schedule ahead of them but there is one silver lining - every remaining game except one will be on NESN. The September 14th game is on FOX. No streaming!

Todays game starts at 4:10 with Sale as the starter. Traditionally, Sale does not do well against the Oriioles. This season, his ERA against them is 13.5 which kinda sucks. Hopefully today goes a lot better for him.

Not much going on worth prattling about. Trump appears to have shut up, Biden still sounds like he's drunk everytime he talks and the Russians are still trying to kill as many Ukrainian civilians as they possibly can.

The Lions beat the Chiefs

This makes the Lions the number one team in the NFL right now.

In baseball news, the Tigers kicked the crap out of the Judges yesterday, beating them 10-3. This means the Judges are once again two games behind the Red Sox.

With only twenty two games left to play in the regular season, it's looking less and less like either the Red Sox or the Judges will be playing baseball beyond October 1st

Tonight they start a three-game series against the Orioles. First pitch is at 7:10 and Houck is the starting pitcher.

He really needs to give them a lot of innings because I don't think the bullpen has much left in the tank...

They lost the series

Pivetta didn't make it through six innings. As a matter of fact, he only made it through four and two thirds innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out five.

The bullpen did great, finishing the game with zero runs allowed but the batters just couldn't move the line along and the Red Sox only managed one run.

In the end, the Rays beat the Red Sox 3-1, taking two of the three game in the series and pushing the Red Sox further back in the standings.
Not only are they further back in the standings, the Judges are creeping up on them and might just overtake them in the next few days.

They are off today while they return to Boston where tomorrow they start a three game series against the league-leading Orioles.

He's back!

I wanted to remind everyone that Donald Better than Lincoln, Better than Washington Trump scammed his cult by selling them cartoon trading cards that showed him living in some made-up fantasy world.

The reason I wanted to remind everyone about that hilarious scam is because apparently, he did it a second time!

And these new ones are even more fantastical than the first ones (yes, fantastical is a real word):

A loss in extra innings

When I went to bed last night, the score of the baseball game was 5-5. I had hopes the Red Sox would pull off a win and take the series but when I woke this morning, I found that the Rays managed to win 8-6 in the eleventh inning.

The third game in the series is at 6:40 today with Pivetta on the mound to start the game. After yesterdays extra innings game, the bullpen is probably wiped out so hopefully Pivetta can go at least six innings.

They are now five games out of the wildcard and only two and a half games ahead of the Judges.

In other sports news, the Patriots kick off their season this Sunday at 4:25 and the Bruins preseason games start on September 24th.

That means I will be utilizing my Picture-In-Picture thingee in the near future. There are at least three days where two games (Red Sox, Patriots or Bruins) will be going on at the same time.

You can never have enough sports.

One of the shitty things about Donald I'm 6'3" and I weigh 215 lbs! Trump is that he says terrible things about people. And he says those things on social media or in front of the media. He does it to hurt those people. He does it to belittle those people. He does it because he is an asshole.

Well, it looks like he is about to learn that he can't do that without suffering consequences.

He already owes her $5 million and I suspect that number might double once this plays out.

I don't think Trump has $10 million which means he will delay paying for as long as possible. There is a distinct possibility that this might bankrupt him.

I'm terrible at math

Yesterday, I said that if the Red Sox won and the Blue Jays lost, they would only be half a game behind them. That was a lie.

As it stands right now, the Red Sox are four and a half games behind the Rangers (the Astros won yesterday) and four games behind the Blus Jays (who also won yesterday):
As you can see, the Red Sox are still three and a half games ahead of the Judges.

So anyways, the Red Sox beat the Rays 7-3 yesterday and I'm hoping for a similar showing tonight.

Tonights game starts at 6:40 so I should be able to watch the entire game.

Apparently, Trump and his hair are now considered "gangsta" and he even has "street cred"...

I always said that with people like Trump and Biden in the news, no comedian has to work hard at writing new material. Just wait for a day or two and one of those boobs will say/do something that is either frightening, funny or just plain insane

Going well

Today's game started at 4:00 and as I post this, the Red Sox are leading 4-3 in the sixth inning.

If the Red Sox can win their game and the Blue Jays & the Astros both lose their games, the Red Sox will be back to four & a half games behind the Astros and only half a game behind the Blue Jays.

Hey, I'm staying positive here...

Two wins is good

With a 9-5 win last night and a 7-3 win this afternoon, the Red Sox are on a two-game winning streak.

I'm not saying they are going to win the World Series but they are at least making a show of trying to get into the playoffs.

Besides, I still have my betting slip...

I keep checking that Trump social thing and all he seems to be doing is reposting stories from others. I think he was told flat out, "Shut up or you're gonna end up in prison."

I miss his insane rants about how he won the election and how it was stolen from him by Biden.

In the first place, Goofy Joe doesn't seem to be in possession of his complete mental faculties so I doubt he could put together a plan to steal cookies from a cookie jar, never mind a national election.

In the second place, Trump lost. No one stole anything from him.

He lost because he's a boob.

We are one week away from the Patriots first game of the season. The Eagles will be in Foxboro next Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about Zappe no longer being the second-string QB. The new guy, Matt Corral, is supposed to be a pretty good QB but my real problem is I'm not a fan of Jones. I was a fan of Zappe.

I'd like to see this kid Corral play but since the preseason games are over and done with, I doubt we'll get to see him unless Jones go down with an injury.

ESPN sucks

I've made it clear over the years that I think ESPN sucks. By extension, I think their parent company, Disney, also sucks.

And in order to make me think they suck even more, they have decided to pull all of their programming from my cable provider.

This is what I see when I tune to ESPN:

They all suck.

Jimmy Buffett died.

I know all of his songs and I know the lyrics to most of them. I occasionally get one verse from the song A Pirate Looks At Forty stuck in my head:
I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast.
Never meant to last, never meant to last.

Another song that pops into my brain periodically, usually when I'm doing something I don't want to be doing, is The Great Filling Station Holdup:
And now I wish I was somewhere other than here.
Down in some honky-tonk, sippin' on a beer.
Yes I wish I was somewhere other than here.
Cause that great fillin' station holdup
    Cost me two good years.

As a young man, I spent many hours with Danny Grandmont, Joe Croteau and Jack Dempsey (not the boxer) at Jack's house, drinking massive amounts of beer and listening to Jimmy Buffet & Billy Joel albums. I loved that music.

So now Jimmy is gone but I still have his albums so I'll be able to listen to him anytime I want.

Yes, the Red Sox lost last night.

Actually, they got their ass kicked. Badly.

The Royals beat the Red Sox 13-2. That's what I mean by badly.

I'm thinking that $10.00 bet I made back in March is $10.00 wasted.

I'm going to watch tonight's baseball game.

Reliving my childhood

My mom used to buy me books. My godmother always sent me books. I spent a lot of time (when I wasn't getting into trouble, playing sports or injuring myself) in the library.

I read both fiction and non-fiction. I liked mysteries, sci-fi and history but given a choice, I loved to read a well-written biography.

What I'm trying to say is I was an insatiable reader.

Once I had kids, I found myself at the library even more because I wanted my kids to be readers. My wife (who is no slouch when it comes to reading) or I took our kids to the library at least once a week, picking out books to read or finding things they needed for homework while I wandered round picking out a book or two to read.

Eventually the kids became more involved in after-school stuff (sports, music, etc..) which meant there was less of a need for them to go to the library. Plus there was this little thing called the internet that gave me access to all sorts of reading material.

Well, let's face it, the internet is a giant sewer of literary crap with only the occasional gem so I decided to start going back to the library. I rooted around my stash of "things I used to carry in my wallet" and found my old library card. When I touched it, it turned to dust so that meant I had to get a new one, which I did.

Now, armed with a new library card, I find myself at the library once or twice a week, picking up a book to read. I've rediscovered the Reacher series, the Bourne series and the Dreamland series. I haven't found anything new yet but I will persist in my search for new authors.

I also discovered that the library has things other than books. Maybe I'll get one of those metal detectors and see if I can find any treasures.

The Red Sox take on the Royals tonight at 8:00. That means I'll probably only stay awake long enough to watch four or five innings.

They better win...

Time to eat and then watch a DVR. After that it will be baseball until I nod off.
