Late baseball sucks

The game won't be on until 8:00 tonight. That means I won't be staying awake for the whole thing.

I'm hoping the Astros are really tired because they played in New York last night and then flew back to Houston. That means they probably didn't get in until 4:00 this morning.

Our brilliant President has decided to impose tariffs on items coming in from Canada and this has upset the Canadians.

I didn't think it was possible to piss off the Canadians but Trump has somehow managed to do it.

No baseball tonight

The Red Sox swept the Blue Jays this afternoon when they the third and final game of the series. Tonight they head to Houston where tomorrow they will start a four-game series against the Astros.

As for the Yankees, they pulled one out of their butt last night when they took game two of their three game series against the Astros. I'm hoping the Astros beat the Yankees tonight and push them to three games behind in the AL.

It's nice to have hopes.

I spent the first 50+ years of my life never having any issues with pollen. Then several years ago my eyes decided they hated pollen and I started enjoying the whole runny itchy eye thing.

I can tell you it kinda sucks.

I'm going to make some diner and watch some bad television.

More mowing.

This will be short because I had to mow my lawn again.

Man, I seem to be saying that a lot this year. Oh well. I guess its better than that drought we had a couple of years ago.

New hinges make life better.

Several years ago I put a touch of oil on some door hinges that were squeaking and while it eliminated the squeak, it caused the hinges to act like really slow autoclosers. You would open a door and within 2 or 3 minutes, the door would be closed again.

Also, the door hinges in this house are about 40 years old and while that's young in door hinge age, they have not weathered well. They have been abused. Some of them have begun to rust and others are scratched so it's time to start the replacement process.

One down, eleven more to go.

I hope you all enjoyed your Memorial Day and maybe gave a thought or two to the fallen. I know I did:

I would also like to point out how nice my lawn looks.

I wonder if it will still look like that in July, August or September.

It was a good afternoon for baseball because not only did the Red Sox manage to kick the Blue Jays ass, the Astros managed stomped on the Yankees. This means the Red Sox remain in first place with a two game lead over the Yankees.

I guess the New York Aaron Judges starring Giancarlo aren't playing as well as they would like.

My tree is doing good

I know that whenever I plant something, if the leaves don't get wilty and kinda dry within 24 hours, I did good.

Well, the leaves on my tree are nice and supple with no wilting.

The Red Sox lost today and the Yankees won. That means the Yankees are now only one game behind the Red Sox.

There was also a Red Sox Alumni game today and NESN is going to run at 8:00 so I get to watch that. I don't care who wins, I just want to see Boggs hit a baseball.

Two game winning streak

The Red Sox DFAd Hanley Ramirez which I'm betting pisses him off right now. But that's only temporary.

In about 10 days, he'll be playing for someone else while still being paid his $15 million by the Red Sox. I'm betting he'll end up with a few extra million added to that salary for the remainder of the season.

As for the Red Sox, they won yesterday and they won again today. The Yankees also won last night but they won't be playing until 7:00 this evening. as it stands right now, the Red Sox are one and a half games ahead of the Yankees. If the Yankees beat the Angels tonight, they will pick u that half game to be only one game behind. If they lose tonight, they will be two games behind.

Let's hope the Yankees lose.

Alan Bean died today.

He was my favorite astronaut because he was the guy who not only went to the moon, he entertained us while he was there. He treated his space flight like it was his own personal science project and he wanted to share it with all of us.

He was also the guy who hit a golf ball on the moon.

My childhood heroes are slowly passing into history.

For the last few years, I have been trying to find a particular species of tree to plant in my front year. I was never sure what it was called or where I could find one, I just knew the leaves kinda looked like marijuana.

Specifically, I have been looking for a red maple that doesn't grow higher than 20 or 25 feet, has a nice spread to it and it stays red until its leaves fall off.

Well, my wife and daughter found it for me:

It's called a Japanese Blood Maple and this is what it will look like in about 10 years:

I hope I'm still alive to enjoy it.

They have a one game lead

The Yankees are playing the Angels and the Red Sox are playing the Braves so it's a toss up as to who is going to win or lose tonight.

Hopefully the Red Sox win and the Yankees lose.

As for me, I spent an hour with friends consuming adult beverages and when I got home, I made pan-seared scallops for my wife, my daughter and myself.

For the record, they were damned good.

Now I'm going to watch some baseball.

They are a game and half ahead of the Yankees

The Red Sox managed to win last nights game and the Yankees managed to lose their game. This put the Red Sox one and a half games ahead of the Yankees, once again in first place in all of MLB.

I like it when they are in first place.

Tonight however, things aren't looking too good.

Porcello can't seem to get a strike to save his life and currently the score is 2-0 with the bases loaded and one out in favor of the Rays. The Red Sox have Wright warming up in the bullpen.

They need to win

The Yankees won last night and the Red Sox were off so that means the Yankees are now in first place by half a game. The Red Sox need to beat the Rays tonight because I suspect the Yankees will beat the Rangers again. If that is what happens, they will remain half a game behind the Yankees.

If they win and the Yankees lose, the Red Sox will take a half game lead.

I'd like that to happen.

I mowed my back yard last night and with todays rain, I really need to mow my front yard.

It's nice having a green, healthy lawn but this having to mow it every five days is getting kind of old.

I got home from work and now I'm going to mow my back yard.

Yes, they are still tied

The Red Sox beat the Orioles, taking three of the four games in their series. They have tomorrow off so they can travel down to Tampa and start a three game series against the Rays on Tuesday.

As for the Yankees, they beat the Royals today so they are still tied with the Red Sox for first place.

I have a feeling this is going to go on for most of the season.

It was supposed to be a nice day today but the rain had different ideas. I was able to get some things done before it arrived like cleaning the outside of our two picture windows as well as sorting through the big bucket o' hazardous products we found in my mother-in-laws basement.

I took the items that were obviously volatile or poisonous and put those aside until I can find out how to dispose of them.

Then I took the items that weren't considered hazardous like the dried latex paint, the rock-hard bag of plaster-of-paris & some old window glazing and threw all that away.

One item we found that is sealed in a plastic bag and looking for a place to go is what I suspect may be asbestos piping. I'm doing my research on that and as soon as I figure out what to do with it, it's gone.

Still tied

Both the Yankees and the Red Sox lost last night so they remain tied for first.

I have no reason why the Red Sox lost last night. They hit the ball more times than the Orioles nd should have won but they just couldn't push the runners across the plate.

Hopefully tonight goes better.

I tried to watch the news this morning but I guess the only thing happening in the world today was the wedding of the only member of the Royal Family that I have any respect for to his American girlfriend.

I like Harry. He served two tours in Afghanistan and during his first tour, news leaked out that he was flying helicopters over there. The British government decided that once news got out that he was there, the taliban would target him so they recalled him.

This pissed him off because he is warrior and a warrior never abandons his comrades. As a matter of fact, it pissed him off so much that he basically got his grandmother, the queen, to order the prime minister to knock it off and leave Harry alone.

He went back to Afghanistan and served a second tour as a combat helicopter pilot, rescuing wounded and hunting bad guys.

You gotta like a guy who behaves that way.

But having said that, when I turned on the tv and saw the wedding going on, all I could think of was this.

Gotta love The Princess Bride.

I'm gonna watch the game and fall asleep in front of my tv.

Tied with the Yankees.

Because the Yankees were off last night and the Red Sox won their game against the Orioles, the Red Sox picked up that half game and are once again tied with the Yankees in first place.

Now if they can keep winning and maybe the Yankees lose a few, things will once again be right with the world.

I mowed my lawn yesterday which is good because it looks like it's going to rain most of the weekend.

Thanks to all the rain we've been having, my lawn is freakin' beautiful and growing fast. If this keeps up, I'm going to have to mow it twice a week.

That's kind of a pain in the ass but it's better than two years ago when it was brown and dead because of that damned drought.

I'm going to watch the Red Sox hopefully beat the Orioles again.

While I do that, you can do these:

Well, they didn't get swept.

I fell asleep in the 8th inning but woke up in time to see Kimbrel get the last batter out. which was nice.

Tonight they start a four game series against the Orioles. It was supposed to be a night off for both teams but this is a rain-out makeup from April.

The Orioles have not been playing all that well lately so I'm hoping the Red Sox take at least three of the games if not all four.

I haven't been sleeping well because I managed to break out in some kind of itchy hives on my arms. I think it's caused by the soap I'm using but whatever it is, it has kept me awake at night.

I bought a different kind of soap on my way home from work today and I'm seriously considering doing something I haven't done since I was a kid - take some Benadryl before I go to bed tonight. I may still be itchy but the Benadryl will knock me clean out.

Either way, I'm getting some sleep.

I'm going to get some food and watch some baseball.

Busy day today

I did some things at work today that kept me nice and busy with little or no stress.

You have no idea how nice it is to say that.

I spent 30 years working in a stress-filled environment without realizing how much stress I was under. To not be under that level of stress anymore is very rewarding.

And pleasant.

According to the nerds over at The USGS, the people of Hawaii are about to experience a rather large explosion.

It's gonna suck to be them.

Speaking of suck, the Red Sox appear to be sucking. They have lost two games to the Athletics and I suspect they are going to lose again tonight.

The Athletics just seem to have their number.

Tornados are afoot

So we're under a tornado watch until around 9:00 this evening. Right now it doesn't look too bad for us but the people in northern Connecticut are getting their butts kicked. lso, it appears that the town immediately south of us may have taken a little hit and no one has power.

I'm hoping the storms stay away from us.

I have a generator but if I don't have to use it, I'm okay with that.

I'm not entirely sure that baseball will be played this evening. The weather that rolled through us is making it's way towards the eastern part of the state.

I'm hoping they either play & win or they get rained out & not lose.

My TV is still functioning but my internet has gone into severe suck mode. I'm going to try and post this thing now.

I took a half day today because my wife's car was in the shop and my daughters car needed to get checked out by the auto body shop.

I'm glad to say that my wife's car appears to be functioning nicely. Unfortunately the auto body shop won't be able to do look at my daughters car until after Memorial Day.

I got a text from some friends and ended up going out for adult beverages this evening.

I hope all you mothers had a happy day.

Our eldest had to work all day today but our youngest made a trip down to see his mom. He met us over at his grandmothers place where we all hung out for a bit.

After that, we headed out for a quick dinner before finally landing back at home in time to watch some news.

I was able to follow the ball game on my phone during the day so I was aware that the game was close. Very close.

At one point, I was genuinely concerned that Pomeranz was going to blow the lead. But they managed to keep a lead through the entire 9 innings and finished with a 5-3 win.

I'm probably going to fall asleep early but you don't have to do that if you don't want to.

They are slumping.

They lost two out of three to the Yankees and then they lost one to the Blue Jays. They should be winning all of those games, not losing them.

Hopefully they figure out what's going wrong and figure it out soon because the Yankees aren't waiting around for anyone. They are moving ahead at full speed.

My lawn is green and I feel as if I should be taking lots of pictures of it. After the drought we had two summers ago and the slow recovery last summer, this is pretty damned amazing.

Then again, we've had April snow followed by a lot of rain. Anyone who doesn't have a green lawn right now doesn't have a lawn.

The game is on right now and as I type this, the score is 0-0. Price seems to be over his case of carpal tunnel syndrome so maybe he'll pitch more than 5 innings and hopefully they win.

Now I'm going to feed everyone and watch the rest of the game.

While I do that, you can click these links:

Well, at least they won one of three

There was a one hour rain delay in the fifth inning that pushed the game past my bedtime. When I went to bed, the Red Sox were up 4-0 so I was pretty happy.

When I woke up this morning, I checked the box score and saw that the Yankees tied the game in the seventh when Hembree served up some softballs. Kelly came in to finish off the seventh and then pitch eighth.

Thankfully Martinez got served a softball of his own in the eighth and golfed a home run in the to give the Red Sox a one run lead.

Young Mr. Kimbrel stepped up in the ninth and got the save for Kelly, securing the win for the Red Sox.

They are in Toronto this evening to start a three game series against the Blue Jays. I would love to see them take all three of those games and return to Boston with the lead in the AL.

As for me, I mowed my lawn this afternoon when I got home from work, my wife has been working the insurance people so we can get my daughters car into the shop and the dogs have been, well, dogs.

All is well with the world.

And they are home safe

Safe but not sound.

After they took the hit from the truck in Illinois, they managed to make it all the way to their hotel in Ohio. Once there, they noticed that the tire was going flat.

Seems that when the truck bounced off of them, he did some damage to the valve stem on the rear tire.

I can't say this enough - If you do not have AAA, you should get it.

The AAA guy swapped the flat with the donut and told them the tire was fine but the stem needed replacing, He recommended they just head down Walmart Auto Center in the morning so that is what they did.

$10.00 later, they were on the road.

And now we start the process of getting the car fixed.

As for me, I'm pissed that the Red Sox lost two games to the Yankees.

Also, I'm flabbergasted that David "Ow, My [insert body part here] hurts!" Price had a sudden bout of carpal tunnel the other day that prevented him from pitching against the Yankees but all of a sudden today he was fine and he threw a long bullpen session.

It was a freakin' miracle.

At least until the next time he has to face someone who intimidates him. Then it'll be back full force.

Not a good day for my wife and daughter

My wife flew out to Iowa the other day and this morning they started their annual trek from Iowa to Massachusetts.

Unfortunately, somewhere in Illinois (or Indiana) while in bumper-to-bumper traffic, a truck decided to change lanes into them.

They are okay and obviously the car is still drivable but it scared the crap out of them and probably didn't make the rest of their drive any easier.

I'm pretty sure that's gonna require some body work...

Hopefully they have no further incidents and arrive safe & sound back here tomorrow.

I'm going to spend some time watching some baseball.

It's going to be a good series

Sorry, I forgot to push the "post" button so this is pretty late.

The Yankees are one game behind the Red Sox n the MLB. That means this series is going to be a pretty damned good one.

I'm hoping the Red Sox win tonight but with Severino pitching, I have my doubts.

The lawn looks good

The fertilizer guy did his thing on Friday so that meant I couldn't mow my lawn on Saturday.

Well, I could have mowed it on Saturday but if I did that, I would have sucked up all the fertilizer and thrown it into the woods. If I do that, I might as well cut out the middleman and just throw money into the woods.

Since it rained on Sunday, I was able to mow today and let me tell you, my lawn looks pretty darned nice. With all the rain and snow we've had this spring, everyone's lawn looks good.

We'll see how they look in August.

No baseball this evening. Guess I'll have to find out what I have on DVRs.

We have a new dog door

I spent several hours last month being all woodworkee and I created a dog door that would fit between the rails and stiles of our screen door. Unfortunately, my design was flawed and door would not open all the way once it was installed.

This made the door unusable because any door that you can't go in or out of isn't a door, it's a wall.

I bought a replacement for the plastic one that we've had for a couple of years and I installed it. I got to looking it and thinking about the way the old one tended to damage the screen becasue of how much stress it put on the screen and decided I could improve it.

I found a nice piece of clear pine I had laying around and I ripped it into 1 inch strips. Then I cut those strips to length so they fit between the window frame and painted them to match the house.

After the paint dried, I attached the strips to the frame and the dog door to the strips.

The door is now solidly held in place by the two horizontal strips and there is no stress on the screen at all. Hopefully the Small Emergency Backup Dog remembers to go through the door and not the screen on either side of it.

The Red Sox managed to beat the Rangers last night and then again this afternoon, taking 3 of the four games in their series. This means they remain one game ahead of the Yankees in the standings.

They are off tomorrow when they will travel back to the east coast where they will play a three game series against the aforementioned Yankees starting this Tuesday.

It would be nice if they can take at least two of the three games against the Yankees to open their lead up to three games.

Now I'm going to go find something for dinner. After that I'll figure out what I want to take for lunch tomorrow and then settle in to watch some bad television.

Final boxes of "stuff" have been removed.

Yesterday, we we jammed our cars full of the last of the items from my mother-in-laws house but we couldn't fit two boxes of stuff. Today we stopped over and grabbed them, thus completing that job.

Now it's all up to the realtor.

Donald Trump hired Rudy Giuliani to take care of the Robert Mueller thing. He is essentially a private lawyer hired by Trump to prepare for and respond to anything the Mueller asks.

Unfortunately, it looks like Rudy has decided he is the Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense and White House Chief of Staff because he keeps talking about international treaties, negotiations with heads of state and the White House staff.

I'm pretty sure Rudy is gonna get tossed out but then again, maybe he's just what The Donald wants - someone more psycho then he is.

Baseball is on at 8:00. They won last night and I'm hoping they win again tonight.

Well, they stunk the place up last night

The Red Sox got their ass kicked by the Rangers last night. David Price looked like he was throwing batting practice to the Rangers and they were teeing off on him.

Oh well, hopefully tonight goes better.

My wife has managed to finish cleaning her moms house and she has selected a realtor. They met this morning and she was told that the house should sell in a reasonable amount of time.

I think my wife is just happy to be done cleaning the house and it's now in someone else's hands. Once the place sells, we can all take a deep breath and move on with our lives.

Pat has been heard from and he is still alive. Although I'm not entirely sure he is healthy.

Seems he had a little run-in with his kitchen floor and ended up spending a few days at Mercy while they ran a bunch of tests on him.

Still the best team in the MLB

They lost last night in 13 innings and, yes, I stayed up to watch the entire game.  It was actually a pretty good game to watch.

Today game was at 1:00 and I was unable to watch because I was doing the working thing. They won the game in grand style with Betts hitting 3 home runs.

That's a lot of home runs for one guy to hit in a single game.

As for me, I still have a fantastic sinus headache thing going on. I blame the damned tree pollen.

I didn't think it was bad until I decided to sweep of my front porch this afternoon and I saw a huge cloud of "stuff" come up from the broom. That stuff was the pollen from the trees.
