I'm tired

After work today, I made a sandwich, sat down on my couch to watch some news and proceeded to fall asleep for a nice little nap. I didn't have any intention of falling asleep, I just fell asleep.

My daughter calls those "accidental naps".

The Dog took a nap too but I'm pretty certain her nap was intentional.

Between the CEO's of the companies that make the 'rona vaccines and the Chair of the Federal Reserve, I'm never going to be able to retire...

The DJIA is down almost 4% since the 23rd (5 business days) all because first the CEO of Pfizer comes out and says, "concerned about a new wave of covid".

Then the CEO of Moderna comes out and says, "The vaccines might not work against the new variant".

Finally, to really kick us in the nuts, the chair of the Federal Reserve comes out and says, "Pfffftttt.... The economy is fine! We no longer need to take any measures to prop it up".

The CEOs are saying whatever it takes to sell vaccine. They would like nothing more than to see us all throwing money at them for the rest of our lives.

As for Powell, I'm beginning to think he may be developing a form of dementia. Either that or he is so far removed from the life of an average person that he actually has no idea what a the economy is doing.

There will be hockey tonight but I don't have high hopes for the Bruins.

DeBrusk is back in the lineup but he's not a happy guy.

Marchand is out for three games because the league overruled Sunday's game officials and issued a penalty for something that doesn't look to me like it was intentional.

Oh, and Blidh is out with some kind of "upper body injury" and the coach, Bruce Cassidy, is quarantined because he has covid.

It's going to be a tough night.

I'm going to reheat some leftovers and watch some hockey.

My lawn is clear

At 2:30 this afternoon, my lawn was spotless. By 4:30, a few leaves had begun to creep back on to it but still, not too shabby.

The beauty of a lawn tractor is that you can use it as a leaf vacuum.

The Bruins just barely beat the Canucks last night, 3-2.

I am not impressed by their play lately and apparently neither is Bruce Cassidy. He benched DeBrusk and Clifton for last nights game simply because they have been playing like crap.

They are off tonight hopefully getting ready to face the Redwings tomorrow.

I am in turkey avoidance today. Lunch was clam chowder and tonights dinner will be burgers and fries.

Celebrations are over but Thanksgiving goes on

Our guests left this morning, bringing our celebrations to an end.

Thanksgiving, however, well live on for at least another week or two while I eat turkey salad, turkey sandwiches, turkey divan (whatever that is) and dessert. Lots and lots of dessert.

I hope you also have lots of desserts to enjoy.

The Patriots managed to run over the Titans this afternoon, beating them 36-13.

I am really enjoying this team. The defense, with guys like McCourty, Van Noy, Hightower, Guy and Judon, makes life miserable for their opponents and Jones is a rookie quarterback who looks like a seasoned veteran. Watching these guys play is amazing.

I'm still on the, "This is a building year for the Patriots" bandwagon and I won't be shocked if they lose a couple more games before the season ends but I'm convinced they will be in the playoffs.

I certainly will not be surprised if they make the SuperB owl...

I'm going to feed the critters, eat some leftovers and then watch some hockey.

It's snowing

Okay, it's not snowing hard and I'm not rushing into my garage to break out The Beast but it is the first snow of this winter season.

The Bruins lost to the Rangers this afternoon.

After handing the Sabres a beat down the other night, I was hoping they would continue their excellent play and take care of the Rangers. But it wasn't to be.

They were tied 2-2 going into the third period and that was all she wrote for the Bruins. The Rangers scored three goals to the Bruins no goals and won the game 5-2.

Next up is Vancouver on Sunday.

The Bills beat up on the Saints yesterday giving them a tie with the Patriots in the AFC East.

The Patriots take on the Titans this Sunday and I'm concerned. The Titans are on a roll.

Hopefully Jones moves the Patriots offense down the field and into the end zone while the Patriots defense does it's thing and makes life hell for the Titans offense.

My arm did not hurt

Too be honest with you, I fully expected to have a difficult time sleeping last night because my arm hurt but that was not the case.

No sir, not the case at all.

I had a difficult time sleeping because I'm old and I have to get up three or four times a night to go to the bathroom.

My arm felt fine.

The Bruins are in Buffalo to play the Sabres.

They better win this game.

Those three scumbags who used their pickup truck to chase down and execute that unarmed kid have been found guilty of murder.

As I said before, sometimes our court system functions correctly.

And if you think for one minute that shooting an unarmed person with a shotgun is not murder most foul then you should re-evaluate your knowledge of right and wrong.

I'm going to watch some hockey (the Bruins are up 4-1 after the first period).

You should watch whatever you feel like watching.

I'm boosterized

My wife and I ran over to the local CVS and got our covid booster this morning.

So far, my arm does not hurt but I suspect that will change tonight. The last two times I got this shot, my arm hurt like someone had hit me with a baseball bat.

When I saw this picture, all I saw was someone screaming, "Hey everybody! Look at me!"
What's with the big emblem on the apron? Does he feel like he needs to remind people he is the president?

One of The Bills (my lunch buddies) tested positive for covid this past weekend. Seems he got it from his grandson.

He says both he and his wife got the J&J vaccine back in March but no booster shots.

Hopefully they both glide through this without any problems and we get back to going out for lunch soon.

They got shut out

The Bruins couldn't get their act together last night and got their ass handed to them by the Flames. They lost 4-0 and they are still in 5th place in the Atlantic. If the season ended today, they would not be one of the wildcard teams.

I don't want to be a downer here but if the Bruins keep playing the way they are playing, I won't have to worry about any post-season hockey games interfering with next season's baseball games...

Sometimes the judicial system in this country functions correctly and they do the right thing instead of the thing that all the people want them to do.

Today a judge dismissed all of the charges against the head of the Holyoke Soldiers Home. If you aren't aware, covid killed a lot of old guys in the home and they people needed someone to blame so they blamed him.

Fortunately, a judge looked at the charges, found no intent to commit a crime, no neglect that resulted in a crime and basically decided that, yea, covid killed a shitload of people but we can't hold the head of the old folks home accountable for what covid did.

I like it when the judicial system works like it should. It worked just fine in the Rittenhouse case and it worked just fine in this case.

Sometimes the judicial system in this country works like shit and it does the emotional thing instead of the right thing.

It looks like the guy who used his car to kill five people has a lengthy criminal history and was out on bail after he apparently conducted a test run on November 11th, running a woman over in a gas station parking lot. He was released on $1,000 bond for that little event

I don't care that all the touchy-feely people think requiring bail hurts people and we shouldn't make it hard for those poor criminals to get out of jail and wait for their trial date at home with their loved ones. No sir, I don't care one bit.

If you've got a scumbag who commits violent crimes, including running someone over with a car, it's a pretty good bet they have proven themselves to be a danger to society.

KEEP THEM IN JAIL for cripes sake.

There is one thing that the mayor of Springfield and I agree on - stop releasing scumbags on little or no bail.

Maybe I'll watch some Monday Night Football. Maybe not. We'll see.

The Bruins and the Patriots both won.

The Bruins managed to beat up on the Flyers 5-2 last night.

This put the Bruins 1 point behind the Red Wings. If they win tonight, they'll jump the Red Wings and move into fourth place in the Atlantic

As for the Patriots, they were off today (they played last Thursday) but the Bills played today and they got their ass handed to them by the Colts.

That means the Patriots are now in first place in the AFC east and in third place in the AFC.

Dinner is done and hockey is on (the Bruins are down 1-0).

My lawn looks great

The seeding I did this fall has sprouted nicely and the fact we don't have any more oak trees dropping leaves all over the place mean that when I clear off the few leaves we do have, my lawn looks freakin' great.

Hey, my lawn looks like shit all summer long because I have no shade and no watering system so I gotta brag in the fall when it finally looks nice.

After the lawn got done, I put on the CME Championship and watched the ladies play golf.

Man, some of those young ladies know how to golf.

Excellent win by the Patriots

The Patriots played great and the Falcons played like crap. The Patriots intercepted the Falcons 4 times during that game and one of those turnovers resulted in a touchdown.

Jones passing was on point although he did throw one interception.

The final score was 25-0 which, in my humble opinion, is pretty much a beat down.

The Bruins are still on vacation. They return to hockey tomorrow when they take on the Flyers at 7:00.

So the 17 year old kid who shot three protesters in Wisconsin was found not guilty of all counts.

I suspect there will be numerous protests about the verdict but the bottom line is that those three guys attacked him. One smacked him in the back of the head with a skateboard, one brandished a firearm and one pointed a gun directly at him.

I wonder how many murders, lootings, arsons and assaults will happen during the upcoming riots...

Goofy Joe got his "Build Back Better" bill passed by Psycho Nancy today.

Long day

I spent 8 hours of my life sitting through a virtual conference on the future threats and trends in risk management & information security.

Don't misunderstand me. I enjoy my job and I find the work fascinating but that right there is eight hours of my life that I am never going to get back.

So I went to a wake for an old friend yesterday afternoon (it was not unexpected) and met up with a bunch of living old friends (also not unexpected). We all decided to head out for some beverages and I didn't get home until after 7:00

Suffice to say I was not in any mood to entertain people with drivel and links.

Also, I was informed yesterday that one of my cousins, Mike, passed away in the late morning. He had been diagnosed with a cancer about 3 or 4 years ago and I thought it was in remission but I guess the cancer had other plans.

He was in his 70s and he lived a great life as a farmer in western Pennsylvania. It would have been nice if he got another 20 years with us but we will speak fondly of him at family gatherings.

I'm pleased to report that John has survived some recent surgery. He is now home, taking numerous naps and watching bad television.

They won.

The Bruins started slow and they were down 1-0 at the end of the first period and down 2-1 at the end of the second period. I'm guessing Cassidy lit a fire under them between the second and third period because they came out like a team on fire and scored 4 goals.

The game ended with the Bruins winning 5-2.

Now, for reasons I will never understand, they are off for five days. Their next game is Saturday against the Flyers.

Time to make some dinner and feed all the beings in this house.

So far, so good

The Patriots ran roughshod over the Browns this afternoon, beating them up pretty good.

Jones played a great game but his receivers were outstanding. Hunter Henry and Jakobi Meyers were making catches like they had double-faced tape on their fingers. The ball hit their hands and it just stuck there.

The Browns scored first but by the end of the first quarter, it was 7-7. At the half, the Patriots led 24-7. At the end of the third quarter, they led 31-7. The game ended with the Patriots winning 45-7. That's 45 unanswered points Patriots.

They are now 6-4 on the season.

Next up are the Bruins. The Canadiens are in town for a 7:00pm puck drop.

Hopefully the Bruins have the same outcome as the Patriots.

Goofy Joe has his minions out on a propaganda tour this morning, talking about his plan to tax the shit out of you and me.

Sunday morning is the timeframe when all the television networks invite all the politicians in to talk about what ever little thing they want to talk about. Today was the day that Biden's minions all appeared on the shows to talk up is "Buid Back Better" thing.

If you happened to be one of those people that watched today's propaganda machinations, let me offer you the following table of definitions:
"This will be paid for by the ultra rich" = The middle class working stiffs will foot the bill for this
"Look, if this bill doesn't pass, we're all going to die" = We're not sure what will happen so we're just going to scare the shit out of you until you agree with us
"We need to invest heavily in solar" = At some point, we're going to have to dispose of all the hazardous waste from those solar panels
"We know that solar power is the way to go" = The power companies don't really agree with us because if they did, there would be solar panels on all the power lines, power poles and parking lots
The bottom line in all of this is that the democrats are firm believers in, "If you think there is a problem, throw money at it until there is a problem. Then throw more money at it."

And don't for one minute think the republicans are any smarter because they believe, "Problems? There are no problems and if a problem does crop up, God will take care of it. Everything is great!"

Hockey starts in 30 minutes.

Well, that was a fun

About 4:15 this afternoon, the skies opened, the lightning flashed and the wind blew.

A lot...

Yesterday's little storms managed to dump a bit of water in my basement but my handy-dandy little wet/dry vac made quick work of it. Todays storm is still going on but I suspect I'll be happy that I haven't put the vac away yet.

Once again, we managed to hold on to our electricity and for that, I am grateful.

The Bruins managed to beat up on the Devils this afternoon, beating them 5-2.

They played a great game, never relinquishing the lead and damn near scoring a short-handed goal on a Devils power play.

Tomorrow they play the Canadiens at 7:00. That should be a good game to watch with some of that famous "old time hockey".

They lost

Despite the fact I put in my best effort and I stayed awake through two periods, the Bruins just couldn't hang on to their lead and they lost 5-3 to the Oilers last night.

We got some heavy rain and strong wind today but the gods smiled on us and we never lost power.

I like it when I don't lose power.

Take a Vet out for a beer.

In other news, CEO's are stupid.

When the pandemic hit, the airlines laid off a shitload of pilots because, well, no one was flying anywhere.

Now that people are flying all over the place, the airlines are complaining that they are understaffed.

No shit, dickhead. You laid off all the pilots and now you don't have enough pilots. The people that used to fly for you are now flying for someone else or they are working in a different career because they needed to support themselves and their family

Some times (actually, all the time) I think corporate CEOs are morons...

Nice stressless day

I worked for a few hours this morning and then ran over to the campus for a meeting and a walk.

After that, I took a jaunt down to Costco and picked up some necessities. While I was there, I checked the status of things like toilet paper and paper towels. I'm pleased to announce they have ample supplies.

No one wants to go through the whole toilet paper shortage again...

Then it was home do do a little more reloading and watching another nerd presentation by the FBI on what the latest threats are to our world.

For the record, it seems that someone in Iran is collecting all the publicly available personal data from school and corporate websites. The analysts seem to think the Iranians are gearing up for some kind of digital assault (phishing) on American universities and companies.

I was going to clean the leaves off my lawn but we are destined for some breezy days and some rain on Friday. That means the trees will probably get stripped pretty well by Sunday.

Hopefully they won't be too thick and wet when I finally get around to doing them. Also, hopefully most of them will have blown back onto my neighbor's yard since that's where most of them come from.

The Bruins beat the Senators last night 3-2 in a game with some pretty damned good hockey being played.

It appears that there might be some bad blood between a few Bruins and Senators players because things got a little "chippy" during the game. Several scuffles broke out and there were a lot of penalties on both sides.

They are off tonight and they face the Oilers tomorrow at 7:00. That should be an interesting game since Edmonton is in first place in the Western Conference.

I'm going to feed the creatures and make some dinner for the humans.

I finally understand blockchain

This afternoon I sat through a four hour presentation from the FBI on blockchain.

For those of you that don't know what blockchain is, think bitcoin or any other "cryptocurrency".

It's basically a way to track something (data, money, art, etc...) with multiple ledgers. All ledgers need to agree with each other and reflect the same data. If one ledger is compromised or invalidated, the other ledgers can dispute it and agree to reset it.

What it also means is that I'm kinda burned out.

Man, some of those people are nerds-to-the-max and they love to talk about their area of expertise.

The Senators are in town to play the Bruins this evening and I will make every effort to watch as much of the game as possible.

As I told John, I will probably watch most of the first period, fall asleep at the break and wake up a some point during the third period. This means I fully expect to miss the entire second period.

This time change is kicking my ass.

While I eat some dinner and then watch some hockey, you can check these out:

Things are getting done

I had things to do at work and then when I was done doing that, I wanted to do some reloading.

One of the things I'm doing at work involves ripping data from a security repository and reporting on changes. This is so I can track who is making changes to people's access rights.

Another thing I'm trying to get done is a process that managers can use to find out who has access to their data. In other words, the Finance VP can run a report that shows who has access to his financial data.

All of that requires some tedious code.

As for the reloading, a boy needs some fun things to do and this boy considers that kind of thing fun.

I'm still trying to overcome the freakin' time change.

I'm tired and I want to take numerous naps. Right now it's 5:15pm and I'm nodding off while typing.

Sunday, November 7, 2021

Well, that was interesting.

The Patriots beat up on the Panthers pretty good but I can't say they played well. I'd actually say that it was more a case of the Panthers playing like crap rather than the Patriots playing well.

The Patriots had four penalties against them during the first quarter and it didn't get much better as the game went on. They also had several turnovers in the form of fumb les or interceptions.

Despite all that, they still mnaged to beat the Panthers 24-6.

In other NFL news, the Bills lost today. This means the Patriots are now only about a game (¾ of a game, actually) behind them.

Not a great win but a win none-the-less.

In case I haven't mentioned it every year for the last 8 or 9 years, let me remind you that I dislike this semi-annual time change thing we do.

I was falling asleep at 10 this morning.

This is bullshit...

I know

At 7:00 last night I realized that I had not posted any links. I also realized that this little corner of the internet isn't all that important and missing a day or two will not cause our society to cease functioning.

As for what's happening over the last two days, the Bruins beat up on the Red Wings 5-1 the other night and I managed to stay awake for the entire game. They are now at 8 games with 5 wins and 3 losses.

I'm still trying to figure who created a schedule where the Bruins and the Islanders have only played 8 games while almost every other team in the league has played 10 or 11 games. Seems a bit lopsided to me.

Tonight they are in Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs.

The Braves are the World Series champs

The Braves beat up on th Astros lsat night and made me a happy guy.

I'd be happier if the Red Sox were the World Series champs but I'll settle for anyone other than the Astros.

And yes, I'd even take the Yankees over the Astros.

For the record, pitchers & catchers report in just about 103 days.

I'd like to go on a rant about the current administration but too be honest with you, I've kinda stopped paying attention to them. They seem to be working hard to piss me off and paying attention to them causes me stress.

Goofy Joe and his ilk are working hard to implement sweeping "social change" (aka - increased taxes for unnecessary services) in this country and because of that, we are seeing a resurgence of republicans being elected.

I have a feeling that come 2024, I am once again be in a position where I don't like anyone running for president. Particularly if it's a toss up between Trump and Biden.

I'll probably have to write myself in...

...again.

Yes, I'm going to watch the World Series tonight

The Bruins are still off so I'm limited to what sportings I can watch. That means I'll be watching the World Series tonight.

Game 6 will be played in Houston and as far as I'm concerned, it would be great if the Braves won tonight. That would make them the World Series Champions with a win in Houston.

Having the Astros lose at home would be poetic justice.

Chalk up another win for the Patriots

The Patriots managed to hold off the Chargers yesterday and win the game 24-27. Jones was outstanding and the defense once again stepped it up.

Of course, it didn't hurt that the Chargers did not seem to very focused on the game. There was more than one occasion where a Chargers receiver ran a route but never looked back to see if maybe the football was on target. As a matter of fact, one of those failures to look for the ball led to a Patriots interception.

Next Sunday they will face off against the Panthers at 1:00. Both teams are tied in the standings at 4-4 so it should be a pretty good game.

The Astros avoided going on vacation last night when they beat the Braves 9-5. The Braves lead the series 3-2.

They are on a travel day today and tomorrow they will play game 6 down in Houston.

Yes, I'm still hoping the Braves win.

We had about 50 kids show up looking for candy last night. The majority of them were little tiny kids. And when I say little, I'm talking about kids between 2 and 5 years old. And those kids were on cloud nine because they were collecting candy.

The neighborhood kids that know us all showed up and giggled like maniacs as they showed off their costumes. The prevalent costume ensemble appeared to be "police officer" with "weird alien" a close second.

We also had 15 or 20 teenagers show up, traveling in packs of 3 or 4. They were all very polite and having a really good time. One group consisted of three boys and three girls. The boys were being typical teenage boys, horsing around and playing grabass with each other. One of the girls looked at me, sighed, rolled her eyes and said, "I apologize for them. They're boys."

All-in-all, it was a good Halloween with a lot of laughter and no problems.

No sports tonight so I guess I'll be watching my DVRs.
