The new GFCI outlets are a pain in the butt

The new GFCI outlets (the special ground fault ones you use near sinks and in bathrooms) are a pain in the ass. They redesigned them and they are now tamper-resistant which means the slots now have little gates in them that will not open unless something is pushed into both slots at the same time. In other words, your little kid can no longer jam a paper clip or a fork into one of the slots and electrocute himself.

The problem is that when they say the gates will only open when something is plugged into both slots at the same time, they mean at precisely the same time. If you tilt the plug just a bit one way or the other, the gates won't open. You need to be perfectly straight on to the outlet to plug something in.

Modern society is trying it's best to frustrate us and drive us to a new level of insanity.

I have a meeting this evening and then the Red Sox are hosting the Yankees. That means this post is short and to the point.

Here are some links.
