Weddings - phase II

Yesterday we went to another wedding. This one was also for a nephew and his fiancé, now wife, and once again, we did not get home until 10:00 at night.

It was a full-on catholic wedding with a mass and all the trappings of the church followed by a big ol' grand ballroom party with all of the finest consumables and entertainment.

My nephew, The Lieutenant, and his wife, The SchoolMarm, are now off on honeymoon that I suspect involves Disney World.

It appears that the Russian coup is over. For now....

One of the many rumors floating around about this whole "coup" is that the people they call "The Oligarchs" may have decided that they wanted their lifestyle back and hired The Wagner Group to kill off Vlad. They wanted their yachts back, they wanted to go shopping in London and they wanted to stop falling to their deaths from sixth floor windows.

Whether that particular rumor is true or not is unknown to me but it does kinda make sense. It will make more sense if we suddenly read about three or four oligarchs suddenly dying in terrible accidents.

What is known to me is that this shit makes me nervous. Those people have nuclear weapons and they really want to try them out. I grew up during the height of the cold war and I'm really hoping that my children/grandchildren never have to go through anything like that.

The Red Sox won last night, beating the White Sox 3-1.

Bello had a great outing, going 6⅔ innings, giving up one earned run and striking out five. Pivetta finished up the seventh inning and Martin pitched the eighth. In both cases, they gave up zero runs. Then Jansen came in to close out the game.

Due to the game's late start, I got home in time to watch the last two innings before going to bed and falling hard asleep.

As for this afternoon, they lost in the ninth inning.

Paxton was the starter and he was doing okay through four innings. He didn't come out for the fifth and it turns out he was dealing with a sore knee.

Winckowski came in and pitched two innings, giving up three earned runs which gave the White Sox a 4-3 lead.

So at the top of the ninth inning, the Red Sox came up to bat down 4-3. The first two batters, Hamilton and Refsnyder, struck out. The third batter, Duran, managed to reach first on a line drive, then steal second and finally then get to third on a wild pitch. The fourth batter, Turner, hit a fly ball to center that dropped in, scoring Duran to tie the game.

Dalbec was put in as a pinch runner for Turner and Yoshida got hit by a pitch. This put runners at first and second with Devers at bat.

Devers took a walk, loading the bases for Duvall who unfortunately struck out.

Jansen, the Red Sox closer, came in and got two outs but he just couldn't get the job done. The White Sox managed to drive a run across the plate and win the game 5-4

Tomorrow's game is at 2:10 and Crawford will be on the mound.
