Aceves was never a very stable guy to begin with. He always had trouble communicating with his catcher, which led to catchers thinking he was throwing a sinker when he would suddenly uncork a high 95mph fast ball and he always had trouble taking direction from the manager, which led to confusion on the field.
His strengths are that when he is good, he is very good. If the starter falls apart, Aceves can give a team a solid six or seven innings in relief. If a starter is out on the DL, he can start and go seven or eight innings. If the closer is shutdown for a particular game, he can step in and deliver three quick outs to win the game.
Unfortunately, he hasn't been very good lately. Hopefully this trip to Rhode Island helps him out and he comes back with his head on straight and his arm back in good condition.
