Finally, a win.

The Red Sox beat the Blue Jays 5-0 last night.

The way he was pitching, it looked like Paxton was going to go all nine innings, but in the seventh he walked two batters and was at 110 pitches. Cora made the right call and took him out before he hurt himself.

Todays game was suppossed to start at 3:07 but today is Canada Day and there was a delay due to the Canada Day Festivities. NESN didn't show any of it but maybe they were drinking Molsons, slapping beaver tails, draining sap from maple trees and riding around on mooses.

Also, not only is today Canada Day, it's also Bobby Bonilla Day.

If you don't know who Bobby Bonilla is, allow me to enlighten you:

Back in the year 2000, Bonilla was a ballplayer at the end of his career. He was playing for the Mets and they released him because, well, it seemed like they had better players available to them. The problem is they still owed him $5,900,000.

Since the Mets ownership was heavily invested with a guy named Madoff who was promising them returns of 10%, they fully expected significant annual returns from those investments and rather than hand Bonilla $5.9 million, they offered him a deal: They would pay him the remaining $5.9 million starting in 2011 over a period 25 years at 8% interest. Bonilla, being a bright guy who could do math, said "Hell Yea!"

During the ten year delay, the initial $5.9 million grew to around $29 million which, when you divide that by 25, comes out to $1.19 million pre year. The Mets investments with Madoff grew to exactly $0 dollars when he went to prison.

So since 2011, every July 1st, a man who has not been a member of the Mets organization since the year 2000, gets a check for $1.19 million. And he will get that until 2035.

There are bigger deferred payment checks given out but none more famous than Bonilla simply because the Mets never would have offered it if they knew Bernie Madoff was screwing them over and robbing them blind.

So anyways, the Red Sox game started at 3:25. Right now it is the bottom of the sixth inning and the Red Sox are up 6-2.

The Red Sox should have way more runs. Crawford was pitching okay and the hitters were hitting but they've had two innings that ended with the bases loaded. That is one of the curses of the Red Sox - they load the bases and then fail to bring in a run.

I'm out of things to talk about so here's a picture of the view out my family room window:

Actually, that's view out of every window in my house. They are all covered in plastic which means not only do I have no air conditioning, I can't even open a window to catch a breeze.

The Professor made her world famous spinach & bacon quiché which is an excellent choice for dinner.

While I watch the rest of the baseball game, you can enjoy these:
