Crawford pitched pretty well, going 5⅔ innings, giving up two earned runs and striking out five. Winckowski came in and gave up two earned runs plus an unearned when he attempted to pickoff the runner at third and threw the ball past Devers.
The Jansen came in and it looked like he was going to blow the game but Verdugo threw a laser from right field to cut down the runner at home, ending the game and saving the win.
Today's game started at 1:00 and the Red Sox scored first. Whitlock started the game and looked okay. He gave up a homerun and struck out one but that was all he could do. He did not come out for the second inning due to right elbow issues.
The last thing the Red Sox need is another injured pitcher.
Anyways, the Blue Jays made a decent show of it, holding a lead until the seventh when the Red Sox tied it up 4-4. Then in the ninth, Verdugo hit a one-run homer to give the Red Sox a 5-4 lead. Cora brought in Jacques to close the ninth and he did a hell of a job, inducing three outs against three batters.
They swept the Blue Jays, are now once again over .500, are two games behind the fourth place Blue Jays and only three & a half games behind the Yankees who currently hold the third wild card slot.
Now they are off until Tuesday when they will welcome the Rangers to Boston to start a three-game series on Tuesday, the Fourth of July.
The plastic on my windows and gutters proved to be a problem today when a storm of biblical proportions rolled through my neighborhood. The plastic on one of the main gutters came loose and got pulled into the downspout, effectively turning the gutter into a really long swimming pool.
The water overran the gutter, turned my wife's gardens into swamps and managed to find its way into my basement. There was so much water flowing into the ground at the foundation that it actually started seeping in through the pins they used to hold the concrete forms in place when the poured the foundation.
Thanks to my trusty wet/dry vac, I was able to get rid of the inch deep puddles and thanks to my trusty dehumidifier, the wet concrete floor has begun to dry out.
I'll be glad when this whole painting thing is over with.
Thanks to a decision by CBS to delay their broadcast of The Rocket Mortgage Classic, I was able to watch Rickie Fowler win in a 3-way playoff.
Like I said the other day, I like him. He is a good golfer and a good human being. He's not elite, he's not aloof and he loves his family more than golf.
Then again, he's married to the most famous pole vaulter on the planet:
I enjoyed some leftovers for dinner and now I'm going to watch some DVRs.
