Order of the Day

On May 28, 1944, General Dwight Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of Allied Expeditionary Forces, recorded a Order of the Day message that was going to be played for the troops on May 31, 1944. That was the original launch date of Operation Overlord but the weather had other plans and "D-Day" was pushed back to June 6, 1944. That was when the message was played for the troops who were boarding their landing craft.

Within hours, tens of thousands of young men landed on the beaches along the coast of Normandy in France and fought their way east into the countryside. Thousands never made it off the beach. They died in the water or on the sand.

We should make it a point to remember the men who fought on D-Day.

With yesterdays win, the Red Sox completed their sweep of the Athletics, achieved a .500 record and took over the last slot in the wild card race.

Yes, I know the season is only ⅓ over and there is still a lot of baseball left to be played but I'm still happy to see the Red Sox winning more than they are losing.

Tonight they start a four-game series against the struggling Angels. Hopefully the Angels don't decide to figure things out this week and go on a winning streak...

And yes, the game doesn't start until after 9:30 so I'm pretty sure I won't see more than an inning or two.

I'm going to warm up some leftovers and watch some bad television.
